  1. I packed myself a step-through when I was packing after a few beers one night. It took a little longer to open (but not too long), and didn't steer quite as well, but on my canopy I didn't have any problems landing it. I considered chopping it, then did a controllability check. Can I turn right, left, flare? Can I land this safely? Don't forget to PLF. 5. Seth McFarlane is the creator of Fanily Guy / voice of Peter (the dad), Brian (the dog), and Stewie (the baby). I'm sure he does lots of other smaller characters as well. He also has a show called American Dad that's pretty funny. I haven't seen this yet since the DVD has a long wait in Netflix. 6. http://www.alti-2.com/Neptune_Owners_Pages/Neptune_Docs/Nep%20Man%20-%20V7.pdf A summary of your jumps is available (Menu > Log Book > Summary), which shows total jumps and total freefall time. Detailed jump logs can be viewed for the last 10 jumps, and can be reviewed on a jump by jump basis The manual isn't very clear on this. What happens is if you're using Paralog, only the last 10 jumps on the Neptune will be able to be downloaded with the detailed profile / graph. On the Neptune, only the last 200 jumps will have details such as altitudes and date. I just checked mine and I have these for the last 255 jumps. After that, only the total number of jumps and total freefall time is still on the Neptune. I've never lost any data changing batteries or updating firmware. Once you buy the Paralog license set up for your Neptune, there are no software restrictions, but the Neptune has a limited memory. To get around this, either bring your laptop to the DZ, use another computer at/near the DZ, use the Pocket PC downloader, use the Palm OS companion, do less than 10 jumps a trip, or accept the fact that you might lose a few graphs. Paralog and the Neptune are great. Both have given me quick responses to any questions I've had. Both are constantly improving their products and adding new cool features. 8. Congrats. Raff was one of my AFF first jump instructors as well. Aviva's really cool too. Skydiving skills might come in handy if you ever have to use an emergency parachute from a glider. You never forget the first jump, but they keep getting better. There's a lot of good info in the Skydiver's Handbook, but be sure to listen to whatever the fine instructors in Hollister have to say. Have fun jumping out of the King Air, keep it up. BASE 1224, Senior Parachute Rigger, CPL ASEL IA, AGI, IGI USPA Coach & UPT Tandem Instructor, PRO, Altimaster Field Support Representative

  10. Congrats. Hollister rocks. Once you're ready, do go check out some of the other local DZ's too, they're all great in different ways. Have fun! BASE 1224, Senior Parachute Rigger, CPL ASEL IA, AGI, IGI USPA Coach & UPT Tandem Instructor, PRO, Altimaster Field Support Representative
  11. Vail is the best skiing / snowboarding I've ridden in the country. Second in my experience only to Whistler. Huge wide open back bowls that were covered in deep stuff while I was there. Way too huge to explore in the limited time I had. I've also hit Steamboat when the snow was great and had a good time. Aspen is great but the 4 mountains are somewhat spread out. Telluride didn't have great snow when I was there but has a few good steeps. Have fun. 12. Agreed, my lowest H&P was 5,500 feet for my A license. Eventually I'll do one lower. I don't have much of a problem pulling around 2,000 if the spot is good. Mostly because my canopy opens quick and reliably. BASE 1224, Senior Parachute Rigger, CPL ASEL IA, AGI, IGI USPA Coach & UPT Tandem Instructor, PRO, Altimaster Field Support Representative
  13. It looks like I got mine right after you two. It took me about a year and three months. Now I'm broke and can't afford to jump much. BASE 1224, Senior Parachute Rigger, CPL ASEL IA, AGI, IGI USPA Coach & UPT Tandem Instructor, PRO, Altimaster Field Support Representative
  14. flygirl1's shoulder popped out slightly on a slightly mistimed AFF cat A exit due to being streched between the two instructors. She waited four months, got a few more jumps in, then it fully dislocated while she was going to pull. Had to pull silver instead. Loose joints are probably the cause. 15. If you only pushed the button three times, it was never fully on. "CYPRES is switched on by pressing the push button four times with very short clicks." "(click, light, click, light, click, light, click)" From the CYPRESS2 users manual (It's the same for CYPRESS1). 16. I think a better thread title would be: "Why it pays to be nice to your jump pilot". Flying head down with the plane carving around you nose down is a blast! Makes for a great visual and awesome video. It makes me want to ride the plane down, maybe someday with a really cool pilot. It's when there's other planes on my skydive with me that I didn't jump out of or the blue light comes on 2,000 feet low that I start to wonder if I pissed off the pilot. Added: If only I wasn't too scared to actually land in the plane! Now that's dangerous. 18. You might want to wait a little while before buying that first rig. Rent and gradually downsize when you feel comfortable until you find something you'd want to have for a while. Depending on your height and weight, it might be hard to find something that fits you and is large enough for a first canopy. I bought my rig used from one of those online catalogs. UPSA has a list of all the advertisers in Parachutist. Another friend bought one off ebay, but you might want to have a rigger or dealer act as a broker and have it inspected and test jumped before you buy. 19. Sometimes after a great jump I still feel that rush and it's a lot of fun. After a not so great jump, I think about what I can do better the next time, pack up and do it again. I agree with the posts about it being more relaxing than thrilling sometimes. If I go a weekend without skydiving (that hasn't happened in 6 months), I miss it and really want to get back up in the air soon. The A license takes a long time to get, but it's worth it if you enjoy the sport and it opens up a lot of new things to try. Right now I'm mainly trying and working on new things on almost every jump, and that keeps it exiting. Here in the US, you can fly a wingsuit after 200 jumps within 18 months and working with an instructor on the first jump. I did it the weekend after I hit 200, and it's a blast. I'm also going to do my first BASE jump in a month and can't wait. Jumping by yourself can get boring, but once you have an A license you can jump with other people for fun and that's a whole new ball game once you lose that student status. Of course, take it slow and try to work on only one new thing at a time. It will never feel quite the same as the first jump, but it gets better in other ways, like the statisfaction of improving your flying ability and having a great jump where everything worked out how you planned it. 22. Good job getting back to AFF after a break. I waited 7 years after my first AFF 1 to start up again due to lack of money. It does get much easier to do lots of jumps (8 or more) in a day once you graduate. Keep at it. 23. Good luck with the weather, keep showing up at the DZ and waiting, even when the weather's not perfect. Eventually the clouds will break and the winds will die down. 25. Hey, I work in Sunnyvale, I'm sitting there right now. There's a few other skydivers that work/live nearby. The location is good, with lots to do nearby. If your job has anything to do with computers, it's the heart of the industry. Traffic can be a little difficult sometimes so try to live close to work if that's an option. Whether is usually good and warm. I mainly jump in Davis even though it's a bit farther away because the people there are cool and there's lots of good freefliers. Monterey is beautiful but it's mainly tandems. Hollister is a fun place and the closest to you, but it has a 15min van ride to the LZ (500 feet higher). Byron is cool, there's usually something going on, but it can get windy late in the day. Lodi is huge and cheap, but I think it's even further than the rest. Give all these DZ's a try, there's usually something special going on at one of them most weekends. Good luck on the interview.
