  1. Skydive Lake Tahoe is really cool. I haven't jumped there since February. DZO Mike Vail is a really cool guy. It was bigger a while ago when they had a King Air and would go up to 13k AGL. He was flying a C207 up to 10k AGL for us last time. There are some nice mountain spires he would fly around on the way up and landing in the snow is fun, as long as it's frozen and not muddy underneath. The views were cool but Beckworth is a ways away from Lake Tahoe. He said they sometimes jump onto the beach near Lake Tahoe and Donner Lake in the summer. 2. I'll be there for BASE jump #1 (and possibly #2). I'm also taking Johnny Utah's FJC. I'm in group #2. BASE 1224, Senior Parachute Rigger, CPL ASEL IA, AGI, IGI USPA Coach & UPT Tandem Instructor, PRO, Altimaster Field Support Representative

    Virgin

Nice job Mr. S, That reminds me of at least a few other photos we snunk our way in to. Nice attention grabbing thread title too. It made me think, "I wanna see what kind of picture of a Virgin SBS has posted now." -B BASE 1224, Senior Parachute Rigger, CPL ASEL IA, AGI, IGI USPA Coach & UPT Tandem Instructor, PRO, Altimaster Field Support Representative
  4. Hmmm... I don't have any clear answers for you, but it's probably a Windows issue. Check out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_Allocation_Table I'm sure it depends on what version of Windows you're using, but the massive size of the drive could be creating problems. You could try creating multiple partitions on the same drive at a more managable size or try to get Windows working with this. I think the load time of the drive/folder contents is proportional to the amount of items in the drive/folder, so splitting them to different folders/drive partitions would speed up the content listing. You could organize them by genre / type of music or split them up alphabetically if that's convient, you probably had to do that to fit them on DVD-Rs. Good luck BASE 1224, Senior Parachute Rigger, CPL ASEL IA, AGI, IGI USPA Coach & UPT Tandem Instructor, PRO, Altimaster Field Support Representative
  5. No standard / allow it. I've only done 1, but I'd recommend it to anyone willing to try it. Plus the 75 year old woman doing a tandem sitting behind me really seemed to appreciate it...honestly. I found it worked well to wear boxers over my harness until jump run and then stuff them into my helmet. You can put them back on after landing. There are exceptions, but most people fit enough to skydive should look somewhat decent naked, but then considering it's an 85% male sport...You take the occasional good with the bad. 6. Sex is better, but when I'm hallf asleep or feeling lazy and the girl can give decent head BJ's are the best. BASE 1224, Senior Parachute Rigger, CPL ASEL IA, AGI, IGI USPA Coach & UPT Tandem Instructor, PRO, Altimaster Field Support Representative
  7. "Not Really", but I probably will be once I tell them or they find out I'm a skydiver. BASE 1224, Senior Parachute Rigger, CPL ASEL IA, AGI, IGI USPA Coach & UPT Tandem Instructor, PRO, Altimaster Field Support Representative
  8. I'd have to get my own jump/travel plane and pilot to take me to different places on the weekends. BASE 1224, Senior Parachute Rigger, CPL ASEL IA, AGI, IGI USPA Coach & UPT Tandem Instructor, PRO, Altimaster Field Support Representative
  9. I voted for "Update to 2 years after you start your second year". For the reason that everyone starts with 1 year in the sport and your USPA card should say 2nd year of membership after you have to renew. Distinguish your experience from the people who have 1 day in the sport. Celebrate your sky b-day with an update to your profile. Added: Another complication is after a long break from jumping. I made one AFF jump back in 1998 and then didn't make my second jump until June 2004. Years in sport should only include time where you stay current. 11. USPA had 32,057 members at the end of 2004. Granted not all of those people skydive on a weekly basis and not all of them even live in the U.S. I don't know about Europe. http://www.uspa.org/about/sport.htm BASE 1224, Senior Parachute Rigger, CPL ASEL IA, AGI, IGI USPA Coach & UPT Tandem Instructor, PRO, Altimaster Field Support Representative
  12. Congratulations on finishing AFF. Once I was done, I just wanted to go out there and be free and try out some flips / rolls, and eventually learn to freefly. Be careful on your first solos and be sure to stay altitude aware, an audible is a good idea when you start freeflying. If you get unstable, make sure you're belly to earth, relax, and arch hard. Freeflying is usually flying headdown or in a sit. RW or formation skydiving is flying on your belly with others to build a formation. These articles explain them well. http://www.dropzone.com/safety/Disciplines/index.shtml Practice a little on your own, then try to find a coach or instructor to help you with the A license requirements on the yellow proficiency card, after you finish that, you can jump for fun with other skydivers who aren't necessarily instructors. To get into swooping, downsize your canopy gradually and get instruction from an experienced canopy pilot. Don't push too hard too fast, get a lot of jumps on larger canopies before going to smaller ones. Have fun, be safe, keep jumping and talking to knowledgeable people around the DZ. 13. Hey Ashton, I know how you feel, I didn't get mine until I hit 200 this last weekend. They were sneaky, calling me in to watch a video to jump out and pie me instead. You'll get yours eventually. In the mean time just be sure to take out lots of formations and break all the beer rules without buying any beer. Then if they love you at your home DZ, they'll pie you. Make sure eveyone knows about your milestone jump and don't act like you want to get pied or are expecting it. Another hint: change out of your jump clothes right after the beer light goes on. 14. I did an AFF L-1 in 1998 when I was 18, then did another one in 2004 when I could actually afford to keep skydiving. I've never been on a tandem yet. BASE 1224, Senior Parachute Rigger, CPL ASEL IA, AGI, IGI USPA Coach & UPT Tandem Instructor, PRO, Altimaster Field Support Representative
  15. Hi all, I'll be there, so will my friend Leah (flygirl1). I look forward to jumping with you. -Brian BASE 1224, Senior Parachute Rigger, CPL ASEL IA, AGI, IGI USPA Coach & UPT Tandem Instructor, PRO, Altimaster Field Support Representative
  16. Marge: Homer, it's 10 O'clock, shouldn't you be at work? Homer: They said if I'm late again I'll get fired, I can't take that chance. Ralph: My cat's breath smells like cat food. Ralph: You smell like dead rabbits. Will you be my mommy? Ralph: I bent my wookie. Chief Wiggum: Now Ralphie, if your nose is bleeding it means you're picking it too much, or not enough. Duffman: Duffman is thrusting in the direction of the problem. Titanya: But Duffman, you said if I slept with you I wouldn't have to touch the drunk! Duffman: Duffman... says a lot of things! Oh, yeah! BASE 1224, Senior Parachute Rigger, CPL ASEL IA, AGI, IGI USPA Coach & UPT Tandem Instructor, PRO, Altimaster Field Support Representative
  17. I think the answer to the thread subject is sometime around Sept. 2003 USPA changed the jump requirements from A 20 B 50 C 100 D 200 to A 25 B 50 C 200 D 500 to conform to international standards. Licenses equal privledges. BASE 1224, Senior Parachute Rigger, CPL ASEL IA, AGI, IGI USPA Coach & UPT Tandem Instructor, PRO, Altimaster Field Support Representative
  18. I'd been wanting to do one, and was inspired by Naked A.J. in Byron who seems to do one every day he's there. It wasn't uncomfortable at all but I didn't have a lot of control without clothes on. I'd recommend it to anyone willing to try it. Plus the 75 year old woman doing a tandem sitting behind me seemed to appreciate it. I found it worked well to wear boxers over my harness until jump run and then stuff them into my helmet.
