  1. Hi Mike, GO 4 IT!!!!!!!!!! WishI could be in the peanut gallery to hoot and holler but my spirit will be there! My Home DZ at Hammond La. went down in the old daze before we were savy to the Federal funding/fair access issue. DO IT!! It's not just your fight, but the fight for fair acceass for every skydiver and Dropzone!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  2. Hi Laurel, Just kicked in a twenty spot to help Mike. From the sound of things just posted, sounds like the characters that are giving Mike the problems may just have opened up their own can of worms!! 30,000 T.O's and Ldgs per year, hmmm??? SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  3. Hi Mike, Go For It!!! I used to skydive at Hammond Airport Louisiana back in the 60's. Leon Riche and the locals got into it ('Never got all the details) and moved to Covington, La. If he would have stood his ground (Herb Golden {southern conference champ} retained a lawyer for the fight) we might still be skydiving there!!! The bitch about it is that Skydiving is the bastard red haired stepchild of General Aviation!! We're the ones that the Big Guys always start with by saying,"Lets get those guys out of 'our' sky!!!" Little does the next guy( experimental avia buffs, aerobatic pilots, sunday Cessna pilots, etc) realize but they are next!!!! The Big Guys tried to "Sanitize" the skys of us rif-raff backin the 60's and 70's (Look in old Parachutist mags!!) and they havn't stopped,---yet!!!!! P.S. I've written my share of letters to the FAA in opposition to Notices of proposed Rule Making. Now, rather than the big guys going after all of us in a group, their new tactic is to knock us off one at a time!!! They are taking lessons from and no better than Terrorists!! 4. Hi NERVES!, Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. Only it was about 32 years ago. Lousy landing on a PC, bustid tibia and fibula, 3 screws, they are still there!!! Well, do you walk, run, jog now after the break? Can you do any of these things with little or no pain? If you can work your ankle and put weight on it you should be good to go. I wrapped mine with an ace bandage for a while (was also jumping in Frenchies {aka Paraboots} back then!) If you're jumping a 170 and are up sizing a notch any way, have fun. Just do some cool conservative landings and you should be O.K. It's not like doing round canopy, down wind accuracy like the old daze!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  5. Hi Gary, 10-4 on the 10E! As Gene Paul tells the story here at the bar, Bobby had the plane at his place when it crashed or whatever and 1/2 of it burned up. Gene says that Bobby said,"Well Gene Paul, the plane caught on fire and your half burned up!!!" That's always good for a laugh or two over a beer here at the Raeford bar. 6. Hi Hook, Funny thing you should mention that!! Got one in the archives. A lot of nylon has had its day since I got that manual. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  7. Hi Flyer, Howie probably bought the Howard from Perkins back when. I doubt that it's flyin' unless Howie restored it. FYI there was also a Howard in SE Louisiana back in the 60's. Bob "the Stud" Munn bought one down from "way up Nawth" in Minn. or Mischigan or one of those "Cold" states to fly for Louisiana Skydivers in Baton Rouge. Eventually Ben Seal bought it from him and flew it at Southern Parachute Center at Hammond La. Later he passed it on to Leon Riche and I don't remember what Leon did with it. Made lots of hops from it, 5 man dangles were a gas! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  8. Hi Bev., Remember the line from the Eagles song "Take it Easy." "Well it's a girl my Lord, in a flat bed Ford, slowin' down to take a look at me.........!!" Go for it!!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  9. Hi JB, So you want to fly, eh?? Got lots of rabbit food, (i.e. CA$H!!)!!! Now, in spite of what anyone else tells you, there are only two types of airplanes, Trikes and Taildraggers!!! If youare going to learnhowto fly an airplane, get your first and I mean first lessons in a taildragger like a J-3 Cub, Aeronca 7AC Champ or the like. A T-cart (Taylorcraft) or Luscombe ain't bad either. Then when you transition to nosewheel planes, no problem!! Try it the other way and I guarantee a fun time!! (Pun intended!) I learned to fly a 7AC Aeronca Champ at Hammond Airport La. in the summer opf '62 two years before I made my first jump. Didn't get my Private till some years later (that's another story) but I'm really glad I learned in the taildragger!! Those initial skills are priceless and you never forget them!! (at least I didn't) Some 18 years after I took my first lessons, I got my Private and found another Champ to fly, no problem. So, have fun, fly, jump, do both and support a bank in the process!!! P.S. 6 to 8 hours max till your first supervised solo flight then some solo pattern work and on to cross country's. Any instructor whodoesn't cut you loose within 10 hrs. of dual time to get you solo'ed is milking you for $$$$$!!! I've talked to more students who had 20 to 30 hours of dual time under their belt and hadn't even been around the patch in the puddlejumper by themselves once!!! They say things like,"My instructor said there is plenty of time later to solo!!" and things like that. The turkeys had no clue!! Well, good luck and keep us posted on your progress!! 10. Hi Jeth, Get an old C-9 in a sleeve!!!!! Just kidding!! Getting the canopy in the bag is a bitch especially ZP!! Get with your rigger and other experienced jumpers for tips and Practise, practise, practise!!! Eventually it will all come together. You can cheat and use a slightly larger bag. 11. Hi Flir29!, Since the Wx sux, get a good book. Hal Robbins "the Adventurers" somewhere in there, Dax's bodyguard, Gato Gordo, (AKA Fat Cat) is bittiching about the snow and calls them (the little flakes), "Those little white devils from the sky!!!!!!!" I concur 100%. I see that you do too!! Oh well, 49 more daze till spring. Too bad that Fidel is such a butt, Skydive Havana would probably be a good place to be about now (only 90 miles from Fla!!) 12. Hi Spark, No demo card, no demo!! Get yours early!! Had a few till they discontinued them. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  13. Hi JR, In spite of all the guess's saying it is some kind of fuel control unit (a fancy name for a carburator) it'sall B.S.!!!! What you have there is a Mk IV Mod O Cretasphram which attaches to the oscillating rotostat. If the data plate S/N ends in "P" then it goes on the left side and if it ends in "S" it goes on the right side. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  14. Hey Yang-o-buddy, When whuffo's (like yourself) find out that I'm a Skydiver, they usually fall into this diatribe about,"That's dangerous, you can get hurt, you can get killed doing that, 'How long have you been jumping??' " I answer,"40 years." Then they just stand there looking stupid as their jaw works up and down and they don't know what to say!! If it's that damned dangerous, how the hell am I still alive sitting here writing this after jumping out of airplanes for 40 years????????????????????? No, I'm not going to kill myself, skydiving or any other way (period!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  15. Hey Spark, Havn't seen that pecker head Zinn in years!! Any idea where he's at?? How about Joe?? I know he's in a bad way. Everytime I've tried to get thru to him, Rose gets the phone and won't let me talk to my old buddy!! Have you talked to Joe lately?? SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  16. Hi Paige!!! Your Foxy Kitty is so cute!! We have a boy kitty named Jethro that looked a lot like your Foxy when he was just a little kitty. When Foxy was in the frige, did she leave any paw prints in the jello???? SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  17. Hey quart., That's, "Are you a TURTLE?? You bet your swet ass I am!!!!" Cardinal Puff is another story involving lots of beer!!! Once a Cardinal always a Cardinal. Cardinal Puff is a game of observation and concentrration involving a "commercial" glass of beer. There are 3 main games, 1 Cardinal 2 Supreme Cardinal and 3 Pope. Pope is the Supreme Cardinal Ritual done with a 64 oz. Pitcher of beer and there is a 10 minute time limit on doing the game, and the Pope rating must be renewed every year during the month of January!!!!(all other Cardinal games, "once a Cardinal always a cardinal!) The big deal in any Cardinal game is,"Don't fuck up!" otherwise someone in attendance will say "drink up" at which time you must hang the glass of beer on your lower lip and sip till gone. If anyone remember's the daze of Frank Carpenter's Rumbleseat Tavern in Hermosa Beach Sky Diving movies on Tue (or was it wed.) nights and is anybody outthere an "Iron Clad Cardinal??" If so, add to the fray!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  18. Dear Feeble, The numbers are essentially bullshit. Skydiving is not a crapshoot where the odds of the chute opening are like beating the roll of the dice! The last thing you need at 2500 feet is pretty gear, you need good gear. The skydivers that have been around for a while jump good gear "and" know how to use it! So, get some good gear and good training. Your survival depends upon your actions, not someone else's inactions. As R.L. Tycer would probably write on the back page of your log book,"Knowledge is Power you dumb ass!!!" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  19. Hi Bert, Back in the hazy days of the early 70's, I used to jump at Otay (Borderlands airsports center) out east of Chula vista when there was nothing out there east of C.V. but Coyotes and Tumbleweeds!!! Old Art had this girlfriend that jumped and her name was Sylvia and she was a fox. We were doing 10 MAN and some 10 WAY when snoots ( like Sandi andSylvia got on the loads) out of Mac's Beech 18. Sylvia would occassionally say to Art before they left the plane,"Burn ya??" Not so much of a question but more like,"I'm gonna'!!!" Well, she did!!! It was so funny as Art's macho ego is what got burned and he would be so pissed for the rest of the day!!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  20. Hi Spark, Been there, done that and got all the T-shirts. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  21. Hi Dog, I got photos but don't hold your breath!! I have to go thru a few years of "stuff" to find them. One rainy day I'll dig around and see what I can find. I've moved 3 times since I left CA to NC so a lot of stuff is still boxed up!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  22. Hi Mick, You would mention "Bad Bob" Appleton!! There was all kinds of rumors about his demise but only he knows and he ain't talkin'. I have his dad's add. and phone in Mass. if you want to get in touch with him. Let me know. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  23. Hi It!!, Keep old Scare-a-chutist and other skydiving rags??? Sure, I'm a rigger and that means that I'm a pack-rat too!! Even have a March 1943 "Fashionfrocks" 24' Twill reserve in the archives!! Got Scare-a-chutist back to '63!!! Just about all of 'em up to a couple of years ago. Srtarted giving the newer ones after I read them to my mailman who used to jump. It's a trip to look at where we came from!!! It's our history!!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  24. Hi Sparky, I have a smaller version of those by Gypsy. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  25. Hi Vik., Had a canopy named after you one time, I think I chopped it about 4 times before I retired it. My name is Bill Deli and I'm a final inspector for MMG. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
