  1. Hi Mark again, The only "Excavating" done in the crater was done by the guy diong it!!!!!!!!!!!!! Really. To all who have doubts, I can only say,"You shouldda' bin' there!!!!!!" (except for in the crater that is. Unfortunately I have been witness to many a crater site over the years. Most were not too spectacular in that there was a slight divot, some skidmarks and besides some body fluid, not much else. This one and Ric Nelsons though were "epic!!" Jazz...

That was Dave Brubeck, Stan Getz abd Gerry Mulligan at the Bowl, not Stan Kenton. 'Twas a good show. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  5. Hi Mark, Yes it is real. Read my above post. I saw it too. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  6. Hi Spark, I weep. A piece of my heart has just died also. George "Dirty Ed" Edwards was my good friend. From my first daze at Elsinore in 1967 onward, Dirty was always there with his smile, humor, wit and snide remarks!! "Blue Skys Dirty Ed!!!!" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

    Jazz...

Hi Speed, Seems like I have always liked "Jazz!!" From Dixie Land to the wildest progressive, it's my gig. I'm an old fart that grew up near New Orleans in the late 40's and into the50's. Jazz was everywhere. Dizzy, Parker, Kenton, the "be-bop" times, Dizzy's bent up horn, wild. Go out on a limb with the Dave Brubeck Quartet "Take 5" and those wild time signatures!! If you're in So. Cal. or have a dish, KLON 88.1 FM Long Beach (Ca.) State Univ. radio (NPR) 24 hrs. a day Jazz and Blues. I live in NC now but I miss that station!! Chuck Niles and Stan Fields laying down the charts. I have boxes of tapes I made from those daze. Local NPR does good Jazz here but the LA area still has to be tops. Summer of 83, at the Hollywood Bowl, Dave Brubeck, Stan Kenton and Gerry Mulligan, knock your socks off!!!!!!!!! Not to diverge too much, but if you like Jazz, you probably likethe Blues too. (KLON touts themselves as America's Jazz "and" Blues station) But that's another story. As for Jazz CD's, Brubeck's "Take 5!!" to me is still one of the progressive classics, like '65 vintage but it still trips me out. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

  9. Hi efs and all, Yes that is a true crater!! Annie Helliwell and I left Perris for Ghoulidge a couple of daze after Christmas one afternoon and this joker went in right after we left. It was Christmas of 83. I have several photos ot this crater too. He went in just north of where the new hanger is now. As the story goes, he was jumping (his second) wih his daughters who he had given first jump courses for Christmas. He went in and his family sued. Of course the lawyers got ahold of the coroners report and it seems that he had a little blood in his alcohol system!!! (Get it??) From what I heard, he made a lousy exit and had a lousy mal which he did nothing about. (at that time Perris had the SOS red pig rigs so all he had to do is "Pull the red handle!!!) Any way, it had rained so the ground was relatively soft and the way he dented the earth, it did kill the grass. unfortunately I don't have a scanner so I can't post my photo's right now but if you bug me enough, I'm sur I can find one. PS I don't have a photo of it but the crater that Rick Nelson (not of Ozy and Harriet) made south of the canal was even better. That's the one that Doc johnson made the plaster of paris bird bath out of and that's another story!!!!!!!!!!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  10. Hi wart, Must have been like the early 60's or something. DIXIE BEER was $0.99/ 6pak so $4.00/case is about right. Gas was 29.9 cents/gal.!!!! 7500' was $3.50!!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  11. Hi Squeak, Sorry but it is no joke. I was in Catholic School at the time of Pius XII's death and the story of the lousy embalming job did make it's way down thru the ranks. Guido picked up on it to but it's no joke. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  12. Hi Laurel and all! We may have won the battle but not the war! The AH's at TLIA are now really pissed off because they didn't get their way!! We now have to act like perfect little boys and girls, don't spit on the side walk, don't make loud noises and generally watch out. They will now suttally attack with nucience suits and the like. Our best defense now would be getting some good intel. as to what they have up their sleeves and be ready for them. Trust me, it's not over. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  13. Hi Pup, Was thinkin' U.S. $ but as you say, like gasoline, the price of alcohol keeps going up!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  14. Hi crzy 77, If tree branches are fluttering, you may have a chance of living., if the whole tree is fluttering, opt for being the sacrifice to the wind gods and start drinking beer. It is a provenfact at all DZ's that the speed of the local wind is directly proportional to the amount of alcohol consuned on premise of those wanting to take part in skydives!!! The consumption of alcohol is also a factor in cloud abatement!!!!!!! PS Tell Buddy I said,"HI!!" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  15. Hi Tink, Tis a sad ay for the Catholic Church, the Pope has,"Gone on." They are going to keep his Corpse around for almost 2 weeks (there abouts) before they bury him. OK, the big question is, Who are they going to allow to "embalm" him?????????? The Vatican is sucha closed place they really don't want any "outsiders" to come into their "inner Sanctum!!" Story has it by Msr. Guido Sardouchie that when Pope Pius XII died, he was embalmed by his "optahamoligist!!" Dig it, the guy said during the decision making by those muckety mucks,"Look, I'ma Docor and Ican do this!, We dont want any "outside' people coming in here!!" So he embalmed the Pope but didn't get much cavity fluid into the thorasic and abdominal area. Story goes that the Pope blew up like a balloon and "POPPED!!" This was like 1959 boys and girls and a major embarassment to the powers that be in the Catholic Church at the time!! Hell, I was in the 8th grade at Holy Ghost Catholic School in Hammond Louisiana at the time and an Alter Boy too!! (Can you believe that???) Anyway, I hope they handle John Paul wih kid gloves and give him the respect he deserves!! The big question now is,"Who is going to be the new POPE?????????????????" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  16. Hi Dave, What's left of a "Cuba Libre'" (Rum, coke and a squeeze of lime). Matter of fact, think I'll go fix another one!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  17. Hi Wart, Lesson to be learned,"Leave your watch(don't need no stinkin' watch, look at the sun!) and wallet in the car. Carry a quarter (to call) or your cell phone. Put $20.00 with your reserve data card so whoever gets to your crater first at least gets a case of beer on you. (you're dead so what the ....) SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  18. Hi 01, So big deal with Easter's swinging schedule!! It also swings the "Mardi Gras" schedule from early Feb. to early Mar!!! Interestingly the beginning of the "Carnivalle season (farewell to flesh)" begins on a fixed church holiday that of the Epifihiany (sp???) on 06JAN when the 3 "wise men" came to visit the baby Jesus!! Carnival is the whole season from 06Jan (the Epithiny (sp?????????????) to 2400 on Lundigras. Mardi Gras is the day by it self- Mardi-Tuesday, Gras-Fat thus "Fat Tuesday, the last day that meat can be eaten before Lent starts!! I love the story as told by the old folks that the "Church" told the Pesants that they couldn't eat any meat for 40 days before Easter. They complained to the Church, "What are you trying to do, Kill us? We have to toil for the King in the fields!! No meat and we will starve!! So, OK, for 40 days before Lent, we gona party and eat plenty meat so we can make it thru Lent!!" Hence the Carnival (farewell to the Flesh ) season culminated with "Mardi Gras!!" (Fat Tuesday!!" There is also the co-incidence with some other pagan festivals that occur at that time!! Any way, meet me at Pat O'Brians for a Hurricane during Mardi Gras!! Toss in a dozen or two Oysters on the 1/2 shell and a couple of DIXIE BEER's!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  19. Hi 425, No, not yet. However, it won't be long. I do feel for the man as he has done quite a lot. Now, as for the next "Pope!" Father Guido Sardouchie I feel is a strong candidate. There is also a good sprinkling of old fart skydivers who are Cardinals (Cardinal Puff!!) and already consecrated Pope's!! (64 oz's. of Beer drunk under a 10 minute time limit while performing the Supreme Cardinal Ritual!!) What this world really needs, a skydiving Pope!!!!!!!!!!!!Vote for me for POPE!! I'll turn St. Peter's square into a DZ!!!!!!!!! PS Today Really is 01APR05, get it? SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  20. Hi Flying, Wish I could take the time off from the job to meet you down there (I'm sure some other DZ.com'ers would want to also!!) and just go out and rip it up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 'Was born there and grew up in Hammond, just north of the Lake, class of '63 HHS, the "Big Easy" was always "Party Central!!" Enjoy it all, "Ben-Yay's" at the CDM, good food is all over the place. Since the months have "R's" in them fora while, get at least a dozen oysters on the 1/2 shell and chase them witha couple of bottles of DIXIE BEER for me!!!!!!!!! PS please follow up this post with the results of your excursion!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  21. Hi Bill, In reply to your comment I can only say thank God for small miracles!!!!!!!!!!!! The female form has taken eons to perfect, lets leave it at that!!!! Skydiving gear, that's another story!!!!!!!! PS, (Sparky) We still don't know (at least I can't figgure out) who is the guy next to Pat and the woman kneeling (I know at least that it is NOT Nancy Doyal!!!!!)????????????????????????????????? 23. Hi Air-T, That's funny about the couch trip. A friend of ours came out and made a tandem a while back and was going to start AFF next. Well this didn't happen and Dennis would grumble a lot because I knew he really wanted to jump. Later we went to their house to visit and Gail said,"How do you like my new couch set??!!" (The old one wasen't even a year old!) Yup, I thought, there is Dennis'es skydiving money!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  24. Hi Law, Here's one that's easy as 1-2-3!! First, turn on the oven to 350F. Then in a large bowl mix (3) cups of "self-rising" flour, (2) tablespoons of sugar (the regular stuff like you put in coffee) and (1) 12 oz. beer. Get one of those 9" or the like bread loaf pans and spray with some non stick (PAM or the like) and put the dough in it. Put in 350F oven for 1 hour. Right before you take the bread out, melt some butter and when the bread comes out, pour the butter over the top of the crust. ENJOY!!! Any kind of beer will do. and remember to use "self rising" flour. Plain flour needs baking power and stuff. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
