  1. That pig farm is about 5 miles from the DZ in Pitt Meadows. We used to get the pigs for our annual pig roast there.
  2. Wow. What an inconsiderate asshole you are, fucking up on such an important jump for her. The next time you pay a couple of hundred bucks so she can go skydiving, try to do better so she can have a good time.
  3. I had to think for a minute which direction to swing. I guess I am left of the SC centre even though I am a conservative here in Canada. You wouldn't think Fox was right of centre if you were listening back in the day when the press actually prided themselves on being objective. In 1980 a survey of the press gallery of the Canadian House of Commons over 90% of respondents identified themselves as politically neutral. In 2005 the same survey showed over 70% self identifying as left of centre.
  4. See, that's the thing with war crimes, there is no statute of limitations.
  5. This is offensive to the morals and sensibilities of the community. That said the dead guy would have probably approved. The stuffed body of Jeremy Bentham has been recorded as "present but not voting" at the 100th and 150th anniversary meetings of the University of London's College council.
  6. According to the rule he deserves a suspension. It is however a good example of what is wrong with the rule. Kronwell was making a hockey play. He was attacking the puck in open ice. He did not line the guy up, he did not target his head. The fact is once it became clear that Vorochek was not going to protect himself there was nothing Kronwell could do short of lying down on the ice and either taking a tripping penalty, or giving up a breakaway. Keep your head up kids.
  7. Clearly there are not enough Atlanta fans to support a team, but those of you who exist you have my sympathies. Tonight at the Saddledome they just dropped the puck between the former Atlanta Thrashers and the former Atlanta Flames.
  8. That is a key point. The OP is from Germany and most of the numbers are from Americans. (BTW $35.00/ jump is a "good old days scenario around here. We will start the season at $40.00 and it may go higher depending on the price of fuel). I think it is important to look at your annual load rather than hourly to make the call. 200 hours/yr is and absolute minimum. If you will not do that then get a smaller plane. When examining the 'opportunity cost' of purchasing do not only look at the interest you will pay/forgo. You need to look at what else you could do with your money to increase revenue. There is no point in buying a plane if you are short tandem gear or your storefront looks like shit unless your leasing situation is truly intolerable. Remember you will need to be able to pay for unanticipated maintenance on the spot if you go down during the season. This can be especially hard in the spring when revenues are not the greatest and you already spent last year's surplus.

  10. If you have less than a C license you will have to start at the beginning. That means a solo certificate. You need everything signed off by the pertinent CSPA rated (and current) coach/instructor. This does not usually mean you need to do each jump again, it just means you need to find a CSPA instructor or coach willing to cosign the jumps. Personally I will always cosign a jump that was conducted by a foreign instructor that I know and respect. I will usually accept jumps signed by a foreign instructor if you can demonstrate proficiency. An example would be 10 accuracy jumps within 15 metres of the target; if you show me a good pattern and good accuracy on your first two jumps I will probably accept all 10 signed by others. This is where a properly filled in log book comes in. You will undoubtedly have to do at least a couple of coach jumps. The best thing to do is not treat it as showing that you already know your stuff, but rather treat it as what it is. It is a coach jump that you have paid for and want to learn as much as possible from. Have fun.
  11. What if you got removed from the conversation for saying so.
  12. Did a word exist in ancient Hebrew for kill, separate from the word for murder? Do you have a reference?
  13. No. I don't care. Not because she wasn't a perfect person. I wouldn't care if she had been killed saving children from a daycare fire. I didn't know her. Thousands and thousands of other people died that day too. I didn't know any of them that I'm aware of.
  14. Too late! How many Art Ross trophies does Datsyuk have? How many 100 + point seasons? You said all around player. Datsyuk is a great player but Orr was better on offense and defense. We are talking about a defenseman who led the league in goals and was only six points shy of the scoring record. This while winning one of six consecutive Norris trophies. You need to get some footage from back in the day. NO ONE covered the ice like Orr. Besides, he's a foreigner.
  15. I didn't say greatest defenseman......I said greatest all-around. Don Uh huh. He did have some offensive chops as well. 6 consecutive seasons with more than 100 points. 2 Art Ross trophies. Shall I go on?
  16. Yep. And now he's probably the greatest all-around player ever to lace 'em up. Hard to make an argument to the contrary. Don There was this Skinny kid from Parry Sound. http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=4085
  17. Absolutely not! Vertical separation is nearly irrelevant at opening. Horizontal separation is what counts. Vertical separation becomes important close to landing when we give up our horizontal separation in order to hit the field. If there is no room for students and tandems to both land on on the same pass then you need separate passes. However that is generally not necessary. I have vertical separation issues with both students and novices on most jumps where I jump. We are landing in separate but close landing areas but a foolish move by a junior jumper has the capacity to endanger my passenger and myself. I consider it my job to keep track of all jumpers that will be landing at the same time as myself. It is not those who open at the same altitude as me that give me the most grief, it is those who I catch. With most passengers I descend faster than a student canopy carrying most people. If it is a student I simply pick my spot and spiral past them and that is that. If is a novice I do the same and have a teaching moment a bit later. In your case I would tell you that you have an obligation to stay away from the tandems. You need to think about who is descending faster, look around and below before spiraling to get away from the tandem if that is the solution that you think works, and fly in a manner that is predictable to those around you. Are you landing in the same part of the field as the tandems? Do you have the option of turning your pattern so it takes you farther from rather than closer to the tandem? This sounds like a really good issue for you to bring up on safety day. You may find there is a protocol already in place. You may learn a bit about how the local TMs think under canopy. Communication is good.
  18. Is this only the case at a similar distance from the centre of mass? Since this is a) a larger planet and b) a planet lacking in heavier metals and thus probably having a lower average density, it seems to me that the surface would on average be considerably further from the centre than hear on Earth.
  19. For years the accepted wisdom for Canadians who get a criminal conviction is to not even think about entering the US until you get a pardon. Then the US wanted passenger info on overflights (this includes many Toronto- Vancouver flights). Now the Canadian government is changing the pardon system into a "notation on your record" or some such thing. The long and the short of it is a pardon will not keep your record from the US government anymore. You can still enter the US with a record, depending on what it was for, but it will cost you. I know a friend who goes to US several times a year to train despite his 20 year old summary offense (misdemeanor). He pays for his waiver every few years; the cost has risen dramatically recently. He arrives at the border with his itinerary in his hand, complete with addresses, dates and flight numbers/ planned exit ports. The address requirement at the border is the one I really scratch my head at. I tell him I am planning a 2 month trip moving around several states and he wants to know the address of each place I plan on staying. Has this guy never heard of Motel Six?
