  1. I have landed a micro-Raven 150 loaded at ~1.25 a couple of times. Not great but certainly better than (for example) a Strong Master 425R within limits.
  2. I don't see why you would need to obtain any license to skydive other than your German one. I certainly don't when I jump in US. Your German one would work just fine here in Canada; we recognize all FAI affiliate licenses.
  3. There is nothing in the CSPA BSRs to mandate 2 canopies. The use of the word 'reserve' (note: not 'certificated reserve') could be construed to exclude the primary planned canopy from a base rig. I cannot imagine a Canadian DZO allowing anyone to jump without a (certified, recently repacked, etc.) reserve). You and I both know at least one DZO who makes it policy to not check the equipment of licensed jumpers.
  4. The Baffin jumps were not skydives, they were base jumps. Although base jumping in Canadian National parks is not allowed in Canada, permits have been issued for the park on Baffin island on at least two occasions.
  5. Didn't you marry your student? Just sayin'
  6. ,...and the manufacturer is going to throw you under the bus regardless whether you were following their rules or not.
  7. Nonetheless peak oil is tied to technology. New advances in both exploration and extraction are shifting the supply curve at all price levels. How long that will continue to be true is anyone's guess.
  8. Flying High Manufacturing and (I believe) Parachutes de France have never stopped using that method. Flying High also has a small square of hook and one of pile just above the pin adjacent to each other to accomplish the guaranteed slack that the velcro on the top flap achieves on other rigs.
  9. Or, you could work on your accuracy skills.
  10. Really? You don't see the difference between someone who has clearly broken a regulation vs someone who is just walking down the street minding their own business but happens to be brown? Of course the cops can demand ID from illegal aliens, but they need to determine they are illegals before they make the demand. Jaywalkers on the other hand have already indicated they are doing something wrong by jaywalking.
  11. It is not a matter of states rights over federal. It is one of states rights over individual citizens' rights.
  12. The University of Victoria is a well known hotbed of socialist thought. It seems clear to me this repossession of the rich lady's "property" (property is theft) was politically motivated.
  13. I have seen a first jump student land standing up on rears after a mis-rigged toggle fell off. I have also seen a fourth jump student stand up on rears after misunderstanding instructions for canopy tasks. He was supposed to retake toggles after 2000 ft but just kept steering and eventually flared with rears.
  14. uhhh.. FROM the "CIA-The world Factbook" GDP (official exchange rate): $1.759 trillion (2011 est.) Exports: $450.6 billion (2011 est.) More like 74%. However when eliminate those items that are non productive the number falls considerably. Conversely a corporation only counts its marketable efforts on its balance sheets. Clean toilets and salted parking lots are not considered part of most companies' "product," but they are considered part of the country's.
  15. Well this is clearly a way that comparison fails. As for your statement about a countries economy being "supposed" to do, that is a crock. America sells 80% of its product because it is as large as it is. For Canada or Australia or Belgium to do so would require a breadth of industry so wide that all comparative advantage would have to be abandoned. We have no hope of eating all the grain we grow, but the Alberta tree-fruit yield would not be encouraging. In fact many people would starve to death as a result. Looking to manufactured goods. If eighty percent of all Blackberries had been sold in Canada and eighty percent of Canadians owned them the tariffs on iphones would have to be astronomical. The same is true for Bombardier's train and aircraft production. Air Canada flights would be priced out of reach for most Canadians using these aircraft. Canada is a trading nation. Just as Japan is and powerhouses of the past such as England and Venice were. Attempting to shut the world trading system down to 19th century (or earlier) levels is exactly what caused the crash of '29 to spiral into the decade that was the great depression.
  16. I heard that Katie is going to use Tom's Scientology as a lever to insure full custody for her. I will be very interested to see how the courts deal with that little nugget.
  17. Wrong link. That is the Stolen Valour act decision.
  18. I presume they said nothing to invalidate fraud charges for those who procure monetary gain from such a lie. Sexual favours?
  19. Well no, I was bitching. As I am not the owner, nor am I in the maintenance dep't neither the ordering nor the 'shut up and sew it shut' options are open to me. I have to say I am very surprised by the poll results. I have never seen anyone use the velcro more than once or twice when tandem first came to our DZ.
  20. I believe that's what it meant. The TNT isn't TSO'ed last I heard hence the hold up in the states. I have heard that they may be selling 'em overseas. Not sure that is correct. They are lending us Dual Hawks until the TNT is available. I am sure our DZO has indicated his willingness to take delivery pre-TSO but still no joy.
  21. The real question becomes which countries can feed their own people? That also includes the guest worker ex-pats who will be expelled back to their basket case home countries. I highly doubt Greece can. When the real rioting starts I fully expect the new non-democratic government to be the one that Germany approves of.
  22. I think you are making conclusions not justified by the info I gave you. I was the ground school instructor. I cautioned the AFFIs before his level one that he was not the best student and did not listen well. Although he passed passed level one his feedback in the plane left the instructors shaking their head. His canopy control was also very problematic. I was the reserve side instructor on the level 2 jump with the main side being covered by the same instructor on both loads. I led the debrief (we were both there) because I was the senior instructor and because I had spent most of the day with him, not because anyone handed off the 'dirty deed.'
  23. I tried a few different ways. I mostly ended up with the students' feet out and me on my knees with a dipped left shoulder. You doing tandem again Rob?
  24. A Clockwork Orange. I got caught and my dad called the police demanding the theatre be shut down for letting a child into such a depraved movie. I also saw Apocalypse Now in the theatre with DOLBY© sound. That was pretty exiting. The first Star Trek (opening night) is still the only movie I have ever been to where they applauded the opening credits.
