  1. That's a hell of a statement to make. lol I meant that wrt the opposition trying to make hay.
  2. When I lived in Mexico I met a few Equadorian jumpers. They told me it was very cheap.
  3. Wow. There could be some side dough here. Just sell your slot on Kijiji.
  4. I know what you are saying, and I do remember McCain aggressively correcting people, but the truth is Santorum is not obliged to stick up for Obama or piss off the looney wing of the party that, lets face it, are largely in his camp. Personally I would vote for Trump before Santorum, but I don't believe in criticizing him for the comments someone else made. There is enough coming out of his mouth to go after.
  5. Actually I thought he did fine. He shut his mouth on the crazy shit and steered the discussion directly towards legitimate political discourse. Doesn't matter whether the appointments are legitimate or not, opposition howling over procedure is normal politics.
  6. Whenever someone from FB does comment on these sorts of things the answer is invariably, "It's not a problem, it's a feature." It's all about openness don't you know. I really wish they would stop sending me ads for church furniture and Christian singles sites because I noted that I enjoy gospel music. I like Reggae but I don't get ads for Rastafarian singles. Hmm Wonder what's up with that.
  7. Do you have any basis for this, or are you just trying to impress some pretty anti-US female liberal arts and philosophy grad with your amazing sophistication. Since it is an hypothetical projection I clearly have no hard evidence. However American culture does have a very distinct layer of vindictiveness. One merely has to turn on CNN HeadlineNews to see a 24 hr/day channel devoted to obsessing over criminals and victims. The persistence of capital punishment (as opposed to the rest of the west), as well as the crowds of pro-capital punishment types who actually show up outside prisons to cheer on the execution of various high profile cases. The mobs frothing at the mouth, baying for the blood of an acquitted murder suspect in Florida last year comes to mind.
  8. The problem with corporal punishment is it far to open to abuse from those who are compelled to punish. It can be effective as a deterrent, but is far more effective as an outlet for the vindictive. As far as I can tell it is used quite well in Singapore, not so much in Taliban Afghanistan. My feeling is it would tend towards the latter in the US. The other issue is the racial one. You start whipping blacks and they will start shooting cops.
  9. Actually white collar crime is the one area I would like to see more prison time applied. If there is one group that deterrence does work on it is the comfortable middle class and (I assume, having no direct experience) the upper middle class. I don't speed any more than I already do because I fear the consequences. I definitely quit drinking and driving out of fear of prosecution. There have been times in my life when I have turned down lucrative opportunities in the contraband trade because I really don't want to go to jail not because I give a shit whether people smoke untaxed cigarettes. If employers really thought they were going to go to jail for hiring illegals, or ripping employees off on their overtime, I think there would be a lot less of it. The same goes for environmental crimes by functionaries of the large corps. At least a dozen people deserved prison over the oil spill in the gulf. There may end up one or none. Putting poor uneducated people in jail for being poor is dumb. Putting politicians and executives in jail will be effective.
  10. lol I remember her. At some point when I kept telling her how great Rob was she, in I am sure was one of her more lucid moments of the day, said, "you're not giving me a choice are you?" When class resumed the other students tried to get me to wait as there was one missing. When I said she was going to do a tandem everyone was very relieved.
  11. Personally I prefer A vs P (P all the way)
  12. It seems there is a change of course occurring. Unfortunately we in Canada are heading in the wrong direction. http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/story/2011/10/17/pol-vp-milewski-texas-crime.html
  13. So are you against any military cuts whatsoever? Do favour a military spending increase?
  14. If one person gets shot, how many victims are there? I am quite sure the definition of victim is malleable enough to include anyone who wishes themselves included.
  15. Is this the first time that happened?
  16. The manufacturer of my rig has stated publicly that my main lift web is not fit for use in conjunction with a seat belt. I still use it that way.
  17. The real question is why was he allowed to leave the DZ with the video.
  18. The same as having a Democrat Party in a country that has been a democracy since it's inception. They are largely meaningless names that evoke motherhood issues.

Well, I referred to things happening "since time X." Then I talked about "the first time." I think someone who is not being deliberately obtuse can surmise that an event that has been happening since time X, first occurred at time X. I am tempted to make a crack here about Christians and logic, but I will stick to my assertion about being deliberately obtuse.
  20. [Raises right hand] Almost without exception everyone I know has become a more respectable, more responsible person than when they were frat boy age. Unless you are making the comment that belonging to a fraternity somehow stunts your emotional and moral development.
  21. This is the problem with these sex offender lists. I don't want a list that puts stupid frat pranks in the same category as child abuse.
  22. Isn't that like saying if you are in a canopy collision the odds are more likely you are at a busy dropzone vs a single Cessna place.
