  1. The three British detainees brought back to the UK were released without charge or trial as soon as they arrived back. Presumably the British Police keep tabs on them but the main point is that despite 4 years of 'intelliegnce' gathering no charges were brought against them here or in the USA.
  2. I don't think its the conditions as much as the incarceration without trial which is the issue in GITMO. Even Tim McVeigh was caught and put on trial within a two year period. I used Mc Veigh as an example of a terrorist who attacked the USA directly and who was dealt with quickly. Many detainees in GITMO have been held without charge let alone trial for 4 years. If the US is serious about holding and dealing with these guys within international expectations and if it is so sure that these guys are threats to the US or other countries then it should have nothing to fear about putting them on trial. Not the same.....I don't agree Why don't you agree?

  4. Ebay.co.uk has a picture of the described as the first '8 Man Link Up July 1970 First in Europe.' http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/8-MAN-LINK-UP-JULY-1970-PARACHUTING-PICTURE_W0QQitemZ7395557532QQcategoryZ2211QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Has anyone got any info about the event?
  5. I wonder if its as easy to get out of a Vietnamese jail as it is to get out of a UK jail so maybe 3 years will mean 3 years in this case. Added to that it is going to be a Vietnamese jail so I can't imagine that it will be particularly luxurious. Brits who abuse children abroad can be tried and face jail here so he will probably be investigated in the UK should he return after he is deported. Given all that though Glitter has proved yet again what an A hole he is. He had been given ample opportunity to steer clear of trouble since his original conviction in the UK but he choose to sneak away to other countries where he could carry on abusing children.
  6. ...and all the guys walking round most DZ's in World Team Jumpsuits, wearing blue World Team helmets, with World Team T shirts, telling everyone how great it was to be on the World Team and telling everyone how they broke the World record!
  7. SKYVAN! Milko said the Skyvan is back! I thought that it wasn't going to make an appearance this year! Yeah Ha!...and the Beech99 to boot. All we need now is a chopper and we'll have the whole set. ...and didn't Milko mention a little something about a little bit of FS going on at the same time?
  8. ...and what next? Is she going to go cap in hand to al the DZ's asking for free jump tickets, insurance companies to ask for free insurance, gas companies for free petrol to get her to the DZ...
  9. Its Raining Men. The majority of skydivers at my DZ are men...and because I jump in England it tends to rain a lot...hence combining the two things in one song title!
  10. We're not the ones with a gun ban that we claimed would control crime. - ...and my point is that in a country where guns are legal armed robberies still take place. Innocent civilians can fight back yet robbers still take that risk in order to break the law.
  11. In the BPA annual report looking back at 2005 the chairman of the BPA, Chris Allen, quotes provisional figures for total number of jumps in the UK of 230,000. This is for 5070 full members, so this equates to an average of just 45 jumps per full member! This seems to be suspicously low as I would have thought that most active skydivers would on make a lot more jumps than this. To get such a low average either DZ's under report jump numbers to the BPA or many BPA members must be inactive or mainly jump abroad? My figure for average jumps would be even lower if I had included the 29132 provisional members (tandem students?) and 2361 temporary members (visiting skydivers or pre A certificate students?). I jump at a busy turbine DZ so I'm basing my assumption on what I see there but maybe skydivers at smaller Cessna DZ's make a lot less jumps and therefore bring the average number down? Or maybe I'm just plain wrong in thinking that 100-200 jumps per year is usual and that my 50 per year is therefore above average?
  12. Yep and BOTH Presidents have received messages from God telling them what to do.
  13. Whilst I largely agree with what Miked10270 wrote I do take issue with the statement that the Iranian President won a fair election. All candidates had to be vetted and those who did not have the right religious or socialist background were banned from standing. Secondly foreign policy issues did not play a part in the Iranian election. Ahmadinejad campaigned on a ticket which appealed to the poor of the country by promising jobs, education and an end to corruption. Foreign policy barely got a look in, whether in the form of America, Israel or nuclear power/weapons. Neither were these issues for any other candidates.
  14. Empuria? Its cheap, on a beach, loads of other non skydiving activities, BPA instructors, close to the UK when the time comes to get your ratings, lots of accommodation, loads of visiting skydivers, different events on all spring/summer.
  15. BPA provisonal figures for 2005 were for 230,000 civilian jumps in the UK.
  16. 0.031 is the shortest amount I've lasted!
  17. Ryanair are going to start charging for all hold luggage soon. This has been in the news but I can't find any mention of it on their website. In return they promise to reduce the cost of air tickets.
  18. When in power Khatami could only be described as a moderate when compared to other current Iranian leaders. He was however more pragmatic than some. Perhaps he is now showing more of his true nature now that he is out of power and not constrained by the dictats of the Guardian Council or the Majlis.
  19. It happens to a lot of people, me included. When I was doing my AFF I felt physically sick and almost talked my self out of completing the course. During the AFF I hurt my knee when landing and almost quit, but after my knee recovered (within 48 hours) I made sure that I was on the first lift of the day. I have never looked back since that moment or regretted the decision I made. I still get nervous but that is a small feeling in comparison to the enjoyment I get from jumping. Overall though it has to be you who makes the decision to overcome the fear that you are feeling. No one will look down at you for deciding not to jump, after all you have all proved that you have the balls and the skills needed for freefall, whilst the feelings you have are also a natural reaction to taking part in an extreme sport. Good luck with whatever you decide to do but I hope you continue to skydive.
  20. ...yeah but most people are saying how annoying it is to receive spam. There is another thread in general skydiving discussions where people are discussing just how Argus got their email addresses.
  21. Its on the Good Stuff video so it might also be on the Jo Jennings website mentioned above.
  22. Has anyone got any idea what effects amputation has on the size of certain other appendages? I guess initially at least the body might supply enough blood for all limbs and given that erections use blood to happen, maybe an over supply of blood will make a man's penis increase in size?
