  1. LOL And just how many jumps can you do in England in a year? I mean from 13500. . . Personally not many but that is down to a lack of cash, but there are plenty of Brits who post hundreds of jumps per year in the UK plus additional foreign skydives.
  2. My experience...On AFF level 5 I cocked up my landing and hurt my right knee. I couldn't walk on it for 24 hours but on the first day that I was able to walk I manifested on the first lift of the day and jumped. I didn't want to give myself the chance to talk my way out of skydiving which a delay might have done. So for me and my peace of mind I had to jump as soon as I was physically able.
  3. Any new Sopranos news from the latest series? I can't find any news about when this series will be aired in the UK, although E4 is repeating all the old shows at the moment.
  4. Wow I hope Rhondalea isn't too lonely all over there on her own as she seems to be the only poster so far.
  5. ...Or AirKix in England. If someone sponsors me I'll go to every windtunnel listed and test them all. That way I'll give you my opinion on which one is best. Deal?
  6. I have made this more to be a devil's advocate than anything else. How would these peace activists feel if their kidnappers or an Iraqi civilian was killed or injured during their rescue? The activists went there to promote peace but their very presence led them to be kidnapped leading to violence being done in their name in order for them to be released. I am sure that they would have preferred to be released following negotiations but are they now going to be as pleased by the result as they would have been?
  7. Billvon if I understand your argument and use of Pres. Bush's quotes correctly then you are saying that although N Korea poses the most credible immediate threat, Iran has to be dealt with first as dealing with it fits wider American foreign policy aims?
  8. Thats a good point. Iran...no nukes but possible plans to build them. North Korea...by their own admission they have nukes and they have issued a veiled threat to use them against the US. So which country presents the greater threat based on current proven capability and yet which country is America attacking most often verbally? Has North Korea slipped off the agenda as far as the axis of evil is concerned?
  9. Its also the first day of the Persian New Year so Eid Mubarak to any Iranians out there.
  10. Using either of them would mean going a long way out of my way to go to work given that I live in the UK.
  11. I love the idea that a Somali bloke with a machine gun sailing on a small fishing boat thinks that he can take on two ships of the US navy!
  12. BPS at Langar has got a lot of big way stuff going on including an attempt at a 2 point 122 way. They will have loads of planes (2 Grand Caravans, Beech 99, Skyvan and a Let) so there will be loads of capacity for fun jumpers as well as the bigway participants. All that goes off in September.
  13. I don't know much about flight operations but I do know that airlines are screwing travel agents and the general public with their pricing policies. Most airlines pay either zero or 1 -3% commission on flight tickets meaning agents have to charge booking fees which immediately makes the agent more expensive that the airline's own website. Secondly the fuel surcharges which were added when the cost of oil was up at $70 have not been reduced now that oil has come back down to the mid $50's. By keeping the high fuel surcharges the airlines are effectively increasing the cost of their tickets whilst blaming influences outside of their control.
  14. I've used my FreeZR for about 35 minutes in wind tunnels. During the last 10 minute session I found that one of the holes in the visor which go over the pegs on the helmet, had started to elongate meaning that one side of the visor started to lift and open. Next time I use it in the tunnel I'll take some gaffer tape with me to secure the visor more securely. Over all I'm happy with the lid though.
  15. it's been like that for a while now Apparently it happens every year!
  16. Damn, you busted me It's like rugby - I support New Zealand and Scotland. I want them to win the games they play, however, if they play against each other, I just sit back and enjoy the match not caring who wins, knowing it will be a good match. OK, probably not the best example to use as Scotland usually sucks in rugby, but you get the point. Liz ...so is that the same Scotland which beat France and England?
  17. Does anyone think it would be useful to add the posters nationality or chosen location (country or state) in their personal info under their user name when they add a post? I know this info can be found by looking at their profile but it would save a little bit of time. I think this would be useful to help people to respond to posts with pose a specific question but don't provide a location when the location would influence the response eg answers to an insurance question posted by an American will be different than for that posted by a British person. Second would it be useful to have more specific jump number info listed under the username eg a CRW specialist could say 1000 jumps of which 100 are CRW, likewise with BASE, RW etc. To stop this getting unwieldy DZ.com members could specify their chosen specialisation and just add the pertinent info to that part of the profile.
  18. Come to Langar in the UK this summer if you want exotic, strange accents and rituals, and warm beer!
  19. Surely that can't be a video of a real incident? Shot guns being fired along town streets, cops leaping like stuntmen between cars, the driver being thrown out or jumping out of a moving vehicle?
  20. As far as I know there aren't any base jumpers in Iran, but this opinion is based more on a fairly fruitless search for skydivers than any other more informed information. I do have an email for a skydiver so PM me and I'll try and find it. The email is for the head of the FIA in Iran though but whether he knows about base jumping is another matter. Someone is constructing a lovely big building in the north of Thehran akin to the the KL Tower. Maybe someone should jump it before the Americans or Israelis knock it down.
  21. Your closest DZ's are the parachute centre at Tilstock (call 01948 841111), Black Knights at (01524 791820 – Drop Zone 01772 717624 – Admin Office) or Northwest Parachute Centre at Cark (015395 58672 – (airfield). 01772 774188 or 01229 889516 (midweek)). Try calling these guys and asking them about what they think because hopefully you'll get a more in depth answer than those found on the internet. Failing that do what Darius suggested and train in the States.
  22. Which country/state do you live in?
  23. There are four main DZ's where Brits tend to train in Spain. Empuria near Barcelona, Skydive Seville, Lillo (Freefall Addicts school) and Ocana (Freefall University). Empuria and Ocana seem to have the best night life/non skydive entertainment. Check out their websites and maybe make a few phone calls to see which suits you best.
