  1. how did you know!?!? have you been spying on me? MB 3528, RB 1182
  2. hhahaha ok but serious question: how do I find out how many posts I've made? MB 3528, RB 1182
  3. so let me get this straight.... I can get off Newbie status by "post-whoring" ? MB 3528, RB 1182
  4. hahaha i love that video... i got a copy of it a few years ago, it was titled: "Iraq Olympics" I heard though that it was (of course) faked... that somewhere during the fall, they switched the backround to a desert or something. Its still really well done... I can't see the switch MB 3528, RB 1182

    Tornado!

yeah those tornados do suck... but whats even worse is that the storm caused high winds over here in manhattan, and no jumping all day!!!!! oh god the horror! btw, i heard the death toll is up to 19 or something. hope it all went ok for you. MB 3528, RB 1182
  6. nah, that game has the most unrealistic skydiving ever. it is fun to take a b-17 all the way to altitude then jump out and freefall... once he reaches terminal he starts screaming hahaha. but at about 10 feet you can pop the chute open and magically survive. oh yeah, you can also accurately shoot a bazooka under canopy. too bad we couldn't do that at demos MB 3528, RB 1182
  7. true somethings you just got to have~! lol thats funny, but how the hell would you get it trapped under a huge rock??? I know some people get really desperate, but a rock? MB 3528, RB 1182
  8. you ever see the videos of when they do mess up bad? they always play them on super slow mode on tv so you can see the bone bend then snap... ugh. but I do agree with you... skateboarding and snowboarding aren't really "extreme sports" anymore. Maybe 10 years ago, but now its the BASE jumping, or skydiving, or the swimming with sharks (outside the cage). MB 3528, RB 1182
  9. usually the media screws up as much as possible when they are talking about skydiving. I watch "Real TV" alot, its a program that shows a lot of clips of cool stuff (police chases, skydiving, car race crashes, etc). Whenever they show a skydiving clip, they always over-dramitize any problems. If someone opens with line twists, its "A POTENTIALLY DEADLY PARACHUTE MALFUNCTION!!!" oh p.s., anybody find it funny that the spell checker on a skydiving website thinks "skydiving" is misspelled? 10. don't feel bad man... im sure everyone has to have one hard backwards landing before they learn the lower flare in high winds. It happened to me too this weekend... thank god for my butt, or my back probably woulda been hurting. One thing I learned from the instructors is, if the winds are high, after you open and check the canopy, disconnect your RSL. That way, if you are getting drug by the wind, you can cut away without the reserve popping out. In fact, on the same jump that the instructor told us this, one of my friends was being drug backwards and he cut away. its better to chase a canopy down then it is to have it dragging you, damaging the rig and possibly you. 11. that looked like it hurt. I'm glad I jump where there are no dust devils... doing a backwards slam and skid doesn't seem like fun to me. Or is it that just as many dust devils are in the grass area, but that you can't see them because there isn't any dirt for them to pick up? This is just idle speculation on my part, im not questioning the all-powerful admin MB 3528, RB 1182
  12. I feel the same way... sometimes I almost run outta room on the page . Most people tell me that once you get above 100 jumps you shorten it to jump number and date MB 3528, RB 1182
  13. I'm more into the hard rock, but here are a few that kick ass and could be connected to skydiving. queens of the stone age - the sky is falling in flames -- cloud connected offspring -- falling powerman 5000 -- the stars fall down drowning pool -- bodies (i always hear the chorus in my head when i've just trashed packed-- "let the bodies hit the floor" ) let us know what you finally pick... im always looking for songs to set skydiving videos to MB 3528, RB 1182
  14. yeah man, I have felt the same way. Back when I was a student, I stopped jumping for like 5 months. Everytime I would start to drive to the DZ, i would come up with excuses not to. But trust me, on the next nice weather day, just head out there, and don't look back. Once you jump again, the nervousness goes away. and btw, I disagree with someone who posted earlier that skydiving nervousness is caused by fear of heights. I've read somewhere that the human eye can't focus on things more than like 4000 feet away. Thats why you don't get ground rush until its pull time. So technically, your eyes can't even trully see how high above the ground you are. MB 3528, RB 1182
  15. Funniest incident in freefall for me was when I did a 2-way right after I got my A-license. I ask what we are gonna do on the jump, and he tells me we will figure it out as we go. So after exit, he gets behind/below me, and suddenly something wraps around my leg. "HORSESHOE!!!" my head is screaming at me, and just as my pulse hits 200, I look back and hes got a deathgrip on my legs and crawling up me ... he got up to my knees before I could shake him off. 16. At my dropzone, they teach students to flat pack because they are jumping big manta 288s, and i think (ive never tried though) that they are hard to pro-pack. I think flat packing does have its pros, like how you can go take a bathroom break or something in the middle of packing with no harm done. However if theres only 2 spots left in the plane and 3 people packing, propacking will get you on that load before the flatpackers MB 3528, RB 1182
  17. I agree with everyone that says exits are the best. I've also discovered that yelling as you exit makes it so much cooler, for you and the other jumpers. also, does anybody else notice their pulse racing when they start thinking about their exits? MB 3528, RB 1182

    Women only

actually if you ever look in there, practically half the posts are from men. I found this out because uhhh a friend told me MB 3528, RB 1182
  19. I would help you if I could but I only know a little visual basic, and a whole lotta useless FORTRAN (damn engineering major) Whenever I needed a program, I would just pay off someone in my class to edit-copy, edit-paste, change a few words, and voila! MB 3528, RB 1182
  20. I couldn't get the backflip my first time either... Seems that theres some good tips already here, but I figured I would add my two cents: While in boxman, kick your legs under your body, while at the same time lifting your head all the way back. Also, kinda push down with your hands. Make sure to do it symmetrically to prevent spinning or twisting. As soon as you see the horizon upside down, go back into boxman and you should keep from overrotating. Practice makes perfect. Good luck MB 3528, RB 1182
  21. You mean this one? I may not even keep it, but I had to do it just to show it could be done. MB 3528, RB 1182
  22. I just checked Aerodynes website for their wingloadings on Triathlons, and they recommend .9 for novices, 1.1 for intermediates, and 1.3 for experts, with a max of 1.6. I have also heard Triathlons fly better with a wingloading above 1.1 from the gear reviews. the only reason I know all this stuff is because I'm thinking of getting a Triathlon Im still just a beginner too, but I would recommend talking to your instructors, because they know how you fly... my instructors recommended a 170 for me, which I know most canopy nazis would say is too small, but those nazis havn't seen how good I fly MB 3528, RB 1182
  23. I did 18 jumps till I was off student status. The only jump I had to repeat was a 10sec delay... turns out the instructors don't like me pulling 1000 feet lower then planned (but I did it for the extra freefall jk) The other extra jumps were for recurrency PRCPs and hop and pops MB 3528, RB 1182
  24. its just quieter, and one of my instructors once told me it makes the canopy fly a little better. If you do have one, make sure you "unkill" it (make it normal size) again before you start daisy chaining... otherwise the kill lines sometimes get in your daisy chain and you have to redo it.
