  1. I'm very lucky in my travels to the tunnel, I know the owner As for the beer, none of that free stuff they serve at the convention. May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds. - Edward Abbey
  2. If I've had a hard opening, I most definitely yell something . I also look up at the canopy and start asking it why it spanked me. May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds. - Edward Abbey
  3. Sounds like you had a great time. Good for you. Was that your first time in the tunnel? I love it. Heading down there in Feb. Jumpsuit and rig look great. Let's see if you can keep them looking that good till WFFC May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. 4. I was raised in Riverside Cal but moved in the mid 70's. I remember when the town of Riverside was so excited because we were finally on the map. I get back to visit family at least once a year, and hate all the smog and traffic. Yes, Cal is nice, but I so enjoy the changing seasons. Last October when I was flying into Perris Valley the haze , that's what my mom calls it. Was so thick we couldn't see the DZ till we were right over the runway. Got in trouble cause we flew through the DZ at a lower alt than we would have like. May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. 5. Oh so many to go to. Just do like me, and hit as many as you can. But, if I had to go to only one it would have to be the WFFC. Ten days of great jumps and parties. Also, get to see old friends that I haven't seen since last year. May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. 6. Sorry, but IMO, if you do the crime, you gotta do the time. There is no excuse for speeding. Speed kills. Please pay attention. May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds. - Edward Abbey
  7. All I can say is "It sounded like a good idea at the time" That's the last time I listen to a video guy when he says "Hey, have I got a great idea for a shot". NEVER, NEVER, NEVER AGAIN. 8. Ugh.......and some how I got talked into going with you and helping in the heat I'll be sure to make sure my job is in the AC Oh and about the license thing, I guess you didn't read all of my post. 9. Umm, Michael, if I remember right there was a nice little field next to the cemetery Hey, I thought I told you to not to try and make it back to the DZ on that jump! And did you listen? NO! All because you wanted to make the WFFC video/DVD. Gee, what some people will do May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. 10. Nope, none of those. I had a bungy PC and the bungy was too short. Because it was too short, the nylon and the netting met evenly. Hence, no air can catch, so the PC doesn't inflate . Learned my lesson on that one. I felt I pulled high enough to handle the situation, I just prefer the "go straight to the reserve handle" answer in this situation. Each person needs to make a personal choice on how to handle a PC in tow, which ever way you decide to do it, stick to that plan, don't change your mind mid stream May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. 11. I suggest calling the DZ you are interested in taking you classes/jumps at and ask them all these questions. Each DZ has different policies. I was an office manager for years and the way it worked there was: A deposit of $50 was asked for at the time of the reservation for the jump. (we told the students that refunds were non refundable) Payment in full was asked for after students checked in and filled out their waiver. Because we told the students that the deposit was non refundable, we didn't have a lot of no shows. (even though we really never kept refunds) If a student got ill before their ground school class we would reschedule them for another class. If after the student finished the ground school and decided that jumping wasn't for them, all they had to pay for was for the first jump class, after all, that's the only service they have received. Some DZs have a discount plan that if you pay for all your levels up front you get some kind of discount. Make sure you get some kind of receipts for the student jumps that you will be doing in the future. Paper work can sometimes get lost in an office. Good luck Mar May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds. - Edward Abbey
  12. Hey, remember me? I'm not the "feel good organizer ". As for having a license this is from the WFFC website: What are the requirements to be a registered skydiver at the convention? To be registered as a "skydiver" with that wristband you need to have at least 50 freefall skydives. This does not require a "license" but to expect some additional scutiny at registration if you don't. These 50 freefalls must be properly logged! USPA licenses are encouraged and temporary memberships are available at registration. This policy was established because of those outside the US not having jump numbers identical to USPA for a particular license. 50 freefalls is about the same experience as a USPA "B" license holder and what we feel is enought experience to be in the air with a number of jumpers. Those with fewer than 50 freefalls must register as a "student" skydiver and must jump under the supervision of the student training vendor, (Chicagoland Skydiving in this case) and pay whatever they are charging. We encourage lower experienced jumpers to seek out the Convention Load Organizers for a few jumps to provide an orientation. 13. Nice picture DJan. I still have to find a picture of me that I'm willing to post for the world to see. WORK, not me, not till the 6th of this month. I've been off since mid Dec. It so pays to work at the college, great vacations May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. 14. Best idea yet. It's not the dogs fault that he/she is left outside to bark. I suggest contacting some kind of dog rescue group and tell them what is going on. Tell them that the dog is being neglected and they will give the dog to a loving home. I have three dogs and my neighbors never complain about noise or a messy back yard. It's all in the care that is given to the animals. Afterall, they are living, breathing creatures of God's creation. 15. What I've done a few times is rig my rig up to the hanging harness (I know hard to picture, but it can be done) so that I'm hanging in my rig doing the emergency procedures. Let's you know where the handles really will be. For more fun, have someone spin you. May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. 16. I spread the wealth around and use three different riggers. One is full time, his loft is a good three hour drive away. One is a lawyer , and owns the loft and works rigging when he's not doing the lawyer thing. The other one is a college student working for the lawyer that owns the loft. 17. If the tape was used to educate, go for it. But, I wouldn't want to see it all over the 5:00 o'clock news. Oh wait, I'd be dead, I wouldn't be seeing it. 18. How lucky are you? I think I hold the record for the most number of S/L jumps in the state of Colorado before I could be cleared for my hop n pop Naturally when I was learning to skydive, the only way that you could do it was S/L. I thinks it's great that there are different choices out there. May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. 19. I admit, I'm a lazy person. What would be the chance of you posting phone numbers, the address, and e-mail address where we can show our support by flooding them with comments. 20. Yes, I had read that earlier in the day. Wow, kind of scary. I can honestly say that I have never had a problem with my lens freezing up. And the reason for that is because I don't jump when it's cold enough to cause the lens to freeze. I'm a wimp when it comes to the cold. 21. A few years ago when I was working on my pro rating, I was doing hop n pops from 2,000 with a very slow opening 210. The CRW dogs in the plane though it would be funny to trip me as I was going out the door. The first back loop was out of control, so I had to show them I was under control and went into a second one. Got the canopy opened, and even landed in the peas There was a gal on the load that had graduated AFF months and months ago and still hadn't done her hop n pop. I had to go up with her later that day and calm her and talk her through her exit from 4,000. May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. 22. I have one and I love it. I even have to lift the shield up after I know I have a good canopy. There is something about the lens that throws off my depth perception May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. 23. True. But I think that at Squeak's jump numbers - and indeed mine - if we had to get out lower than 2500, we'd be pulling silver first. I would never force anyone to get out at a lower altitude than what they feel comfortable doing. But IMO, the sooner the better. I'm sure there are some people that know the speed/time table, but if I remember correct, doesn't it take 10 seconds to get to terminal? Help me out people What's the numbers? Here's some informtaion from the Skydiver's Information Manual. Yes, I agree they are guildlines, and not rules. S/L Progression Training 5.10 FIRST FREEFALL (1 JUMP) Freefall from 3,200 feet AGL. To be made on the same day as the last properly performed PRCP or PPCT. For the Level Eight Student 8-1.03 level 8A A. Targeted Learning Objective: 1. Solo clear and pull (five second freefall) B. Procedures: 1. Solo clear and pull: a. A novice who has not yet performed a clear and pull is trained by a JM to perform a controlled clear and pull with a freefall of approximately five seconds. The jump is made from 3,500 feet to 4,000 feet and observed by the Jumpmaster. b. This exercise should be satisfactorily completed very soon after graduation from the AFF or IAF programs. c. This exercise will give a novice confidence and prepare him or her for the low altitude exit and clear and pull he/she will eventually have to make. I might just be thinking along these lines since I learned how to skydive doing the S/L progression and was use to the lower altitude. There is nothing wrong with either the S/L or AFF progressions, each has their own "good" and "bad" to offer. So now the question I throw out there is this: why can a S/L progression student do his/her first freefall from 4,000 and no one thinks twice about it, and an AFF progression student isn't in a hurry to do their hop n pop from 4,000. Hummmm? Again, I'm not against either training avenues. May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. 24. Wow, a person that can apologize to the masses. I'm impressed. I guess you really aren't that bad. Hell, you must have just been having a bad day.
