  1. Way back when I was learning, the only way to do it was S/L. The BSR said that 5 S/L needed to be done before going on to a Hop/Pop. Three DRCP needed to be done, with the last one and the first Hop/Pop being done on the same day. After that, it was three Hop/Pops, three 5 second delays, three 10 second delays, and so on. I'm not even going to say how many S/L jumps I had to do before getting to do my Hop/Pop, but I think I hold the record for the most here in Colorado. 2. I'll be there for the big way dives. I won't be arriving till the afternoon of the 15th. I figure that will give me enough time to check out the landing area before getting up in the air with 120 plus skydivers. Would love to meet some Dropzone.com people while there. 3. I just got this invitation sent to me by Kate. Do you think she's trying to tell me something? May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds. - Edward Abbey
  4. I'll be out early for the balloon jumps at Mile Hi on Saturday. It's Micheal's last weekend with us so he and I are doing the "rap" thing from the balloon. Sunday I'll be at Brush for CSL practice, even though I won't be there for the meet. Going to Florida
  5. Make sure all the jumpers get a good debrief before the jump. I don't do them any more. I have found the older I got, the less I saw at night. Even with parked cars shinning their headlights in the correct direction to land. Good luck. May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. 6. We have it here in Colorado. It can go days and days being quiet, then over night, hell breaks lose. It's a great way to get the word out for events happening in the area. I don't know, you've turned into such a skygod. But that's good, I like seeing my "low timers" spread their wings and be able to keep up with the big boys. 10. Yes, to both questions. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but you can get a false positive depending on when the blood is drawn from a person on a fatality. I'm not in the career that does this testing, but I was involved with a fatality that showed a false positive when I know for a fact that the person wasn't doing any kind of drugs. The coroner explained to me that drug testing on a deceased person is very difficult. May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. 11. Why should DJan have to prove anything? Just because someone doesn't do a piss test, do you assume they are doing drugs? Jeremy, I worked as the office manager at Mile Hi for years, and yes, I know what happens behind closed doors. Jeff says that he isn't using the piss test as a "advertisement" tool. I then dare him to not post that on any of his advertisements or his web site that he is "Drug Free". I as an experience jumper I take offense to having one DZ over the other use the "Drug Free" card when advertising. Reason being, I have the choice to jump where I want and when. Now picture this: A friend comes to me and says that she/he was looking around at the different DZs to go and make a Tandem at, and she/he ran across one DZ web site. The site stated that all their JMs are drug free. Now, my friend goes to the other web sites of the DZs in the state, and noticed that nothing about being drug free was mentioned on their web sites. Does that make them less safe? My friend now ask me, "Where do you jump?" I tell her/him, and they are shocked that I'm jumping at a DZ that doesn't do drug testing, she/he now is asking if I'm involved in anykind of drug use. Guilt by association. Just because a DZ doesn't do drug testing, does that make them quilt of doing drugs? I don't think so, but then some DZs don't have to yell and scream and let the world know just how great they are. Their personalities and how well they work with fellow jumpers and staff show what they are about. I think if a DZO is worried that someone is doing drugs, then take that JM aside, talk to them, then do a test. Why does the DZO feel they have to test everyone. I understand you saying that Jeff wants to protect what he's got, but does he really think that any of his staff is showing up on drugs? Sorry if this posting is coming off a tad strong, but when you attack one of my good friends I can't sit by and watch. DJan has nothing to prove to you. I'm sure I won't be much welcomed back to Mile Hi after this post, but oh well. There are other DZs to jump at. 12. Poor DJan, not able to jump today. To be honest, I'm not too disappointed that we're not jumping today. Wasn't up for doing the "be cold" jumps. Steve, hope you're doing better this morning and walking around with less pain. May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. 13. Yes, check out the web site and see what Scott is planning on doing to raise $ for the event. May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds. - Edward Abbey
  14. Like Hook said, "If it's the DZ I'm thinking off", the employees aren't hired as employees, but as "Independent Contractors". So, what are the legalities with drug testing independent contractors? May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. 15. But is drug testing going to show if a JM has been out all night drinking and is working with student's hung over. IMO, being hung over is just as bad slowing reaction time down. And what about the JM that didn't get very much sleep the night before cause he/she was up all night. Lack of sleep is also dangerous, and that doesn't show up on drug testing. Where is the line drawn? Skratch makes some very good points. I guess the skydivers in the area are going to have to do some soul searching and ask themselves if they are willing to support that DZ. Only time will tell. Can most skydivers really stand by their convictions when it comes to making a skydive? 16. I'll be there. I'm terrible with names and faces, so be sure to ask around for me. I won't be arriving till the late afternoon, early evening of the 15th. Since I've never jumped at Z-Hill before, the plan is to go out and walk the landing area before going up with 120 plus people. 21. The Lamar boogie is Sept 19th-21st. Last I heard Brush had the Casa set up for the same weekend. Who knows, I guess the best thing to do is sit back and wait. Pat is from the AFA and runs the boogie at Lamar. I'll forward the information. May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. 22. Kelli, From what I heard both the Lamar boogie and Brush had the Casa for the same weekend. Kind of a mix up I guess. Check with Pat and see if he's still got it lined up for the Boogie down south. (wanted to get in here before the thread gets locked. 24. I missed my ten year reunion due to being so close to my due date of my first born. I did attend my 20th Class Reunion and had a great time. When I attend High School, I was a little on the "plump" side, and have since slimmed down. Not many people knew who I was. At the time I attended the reunion, I was also working at a DZ as an office manager. That sure raised a lot of eyebrows. They handed out awards for "Most Changed" and "Most Interesting Job". Needless to say I won both. Going to the reunion also allowed me to open up some paths to lost friendships. I'm still in contact with some of them. Because of being in touch with them, a handful of them came out to Perris and watched JFTC last year. Then we all went out to dinner. It was a good time. Go to the reunion, if you're not having a good time, leave. May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. 25. I feel really left out, I didn't get any kind of order form from the FAI for me to order the "Diplome de Record". Do you have any information you can pass on to me to get an order form? Thanks sweetie. May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds. - Edward Abbey
