  1. Does anyone have any experience with this canopy? especially landings. A jumper at our DZ just got a 120 and now we are calling it Sprain Doh!! Two other jumpers who jump other 120s tried it and both had less than perfect landings.
  2. I've got 90 jumps on my V4, It just gets more comfortable as time goes on. Andrew

    Beer

I finally got to jump my (new to me) lightning on Saturday. It was windy , gusty so I passed up the offer to be a WDI on the first load. I went up with a tandem w/video (C-182) I was just about to open the door at 7500' when they radio that it is gusting to 27 mph on the ground. Decide to go to 9500' follow the tandem and take the spot a mile or so longer. They go, one gravel road, next gravel road , hop reach pull.... That wasn't too bad. Check for stall point, to waist OK, below waist start to fold up. OK dont do that close to ground. Try a few spirals... start getting into a layer of ice crystals. Good thing I'm not in freefall. Try my new trim tabs, front riser dive ...cool. front riser spiral...responsive. Unlock trimtab....left ok. Right jammed.. cant get it to move. How's she flying not too bad. Time to land still windy. Put her down right next to tandem, video of landing, stood it up. Much to Pete's (Canuck)disgust, wanted to see me crash and burn. Repacked it , without too much sticking out. (Rigger had helped me the first time.) Beer was cold and tasted real GOOD. Weather was perfect on Sunday, lots of students and tandems. No CReW. Got three jumps, sit and RW. Andrew
  5. Tee posted a good link a while back Go tohttp://www.zct.co.uk/skydivemag/ and type "mantis" in the search box. Andrew
  6. James (little dude, ex military) was jumping in Gimli..... last weekend We were jumping in Westlock (Edmonton Skydive Centre).... Yesterday The DZO was probably referring to the type of gloves you were wearing. You definately need gloves jumping in Canada in the winter. Andrew
  7. I was jumping yesterday with James who said you could see your breath in the plane last week in Gimli, so you definately need gloves. It was a balmy -16c at altitude here in Edmonton yesterday. I wear baseball batters gloves, with liners in the winter. One of the other jumpers uses waterski gloves, they are warm and they grip well. Andrew
  8. that would be Joan Lunden in Behind closed Doors I liked that episode , also the one where she goes to 60000' in a jet, that then has an aircraft emergency. (looses main battery power) Andrew Ps I doubt if Joan Collins would skydive.
  9. Hi Tee, October 1, Libra That makes a set. Thats wierd as the three of us have jumped together. Andrew
  10. Congratulations Tee!!!! from myself and all the Edmonton area skydivers. Andrew
  11. Here's how I packed my new zp canopy for the first 100. pro pack normally , lay down canopy, put knees on canopy where slider is, to hold lines, Squeeze out air, form cigar roll. then put both hands underneath, one at top one in middle. quickly pull canopy up to chest. roll canopy from top, gently pulling bridle to edge of roll as you do. push roll in bag, fold portion with lines into bag. Worked for me. Andrew
  12. the Minimum # of jumps for the Solo Certificate is 10 jumps the other requirements are:--- one freefall delay greater than 30 secs one 5 sec freefall delay from 4000' three self spotted (unassisted) jumps self guided within 50m of target. demonstrated in freefall right 360, left 360 turn (figure 8) performed one freefall jump where the individual exits with back to relative wind in sit , holds for 5 sec then rotates belly to earth. (sit exit and ride the slide) Demonstrated canopy stall and recovery ( above 2000') demonstrated rear riser turn (above 2000') Completed a check out jump as per self supervision in PIM 2A has endorsement for reserve procedures and emergency procedures review (solo) Correct verbal response to set of published questions. minimum 3mins accum freefall stable activation at prescrbed alt on last 5 jumps. andrew
  13. My Pro Track, stopped working properly while I was in Eloy. It started showing "altitude" on the ground, then all the alarms sounded in the middle of the packing area. I contacted L & B , they said send it in for free service. Today I got a New Pro Track in the mail.

    Voodoo

I have a V3, with a 150 tempo reserve and 170 spectre main. It fits but tight. The tempo packs small, and the spectre is a 7 cell. You would need to talk to Sandy at RI. Andrew
  15. The other issue will be third party liability. If your home Licence does not have worldwide third party coverage they will require you to be a USPA member which costs $55 for a new overseas member. As to jumping bring your log book and they will put you in whatever program is appropriate. Andrew
  16. all you need is a pilot chute hesitation and you will still exceed 78mph at 750' I watched a 7 way have 2 cypres fires (2 out) at Lost Prairie last yr. Andrew
  17. My Voodoo is a V3, sized for 150 main and reserve. I have a Tempo 150 reserve which is a smaller packing reserve. Spectre 170 main 7cell smaller pack volume. I talked to Sandy about it prior to purchase and he said it should be OK The first 40 jumps I left the closing loop a little long, then shortened it up. I found the toughest part of packing was the stiff new riser covers which got easier with more use.
  18. Remi as of July 2001 it's 13s for C Andrew
  19. The landing was either no wind or ever so slightly down wind. Pat and Brian decided to land everyone to the east where an overshoot took you into the desert rather than to the west wherethere was the big tent and hangers. Exit order was a 2 way then my 2 way. I only saw 2 other canopies under canopy. I came in parallel to and slightly behind someone else. The first 2 way was a couple from europe (Denmark? Germany?) So the guy was probably first down. Dave (Brit) that I jumped with was flying a fairly small canopy so I suspect his swoop was good also. He had his video on ..... all you can see of me is my glow stick zipping around. Andrew
  20. Generally you tend to flare high. I did the New Yrs midnight jump at Eloy, they had vehicles pointed in the landing direction, I flared a little high but still managed to stand it up. During the briefing Brian B mentioned that 2 yrs ago one girl landed off, didnt flare in full flight and broke both femurs. I wear a mag light on my helmet for off landings. If you are landing off, go to half brakes, this will slow you down and reduce injuries hopefully. Landing with lots of partying skydivers cheering your landing is soooo cool Andrew
  21. 1999 22 jumps 2000 82 jumps 2001 237 jumps I think I see a pattern developing here...... also I'm not sure whether I should count the 237th as 2001 or 2002 Took off 11.30pm dec 31, landed to the cheers of lots of drunken skydivers in 2002.
  22. Every 2 yrs need to replace batteries, at 4 and 8 yrs has to be sent in for service. 12yrs needs to be replaced. when you turn it on it counts down, when it stops the first time at 6200,6300,6400 that is the volts in the battery ie 6.2 6.3 6.4 as long as this # is above 6.0 the cypres should have enough juice to work. Otherwise turn it on at the beginning of the day and check that it says 0 with a down arrow and then skydive as if it isn't there. Andrew
  23. I just got back from Eloy, where Big John and I did 28 jumps together mostly 3way, 4 way but a big as 8 way. At the start I was wearing 14lbs to keep up. By the end I was wearing 6lbs at a fall rate of 124mph which gave us both a bit of range. Expect to see both of you at Kamloops Andrew
  24. I had the same problem, then I went to Lost Prairie, got 2 coach jumps from Steuey(SP) from Monkey Claw, concentrate on the hips, get your hips under your shoulders and the feet will drop, and RELAX, he had me pump alternate feet up and down while in the sit. If you stiffen up you will go back onto your back. 174fps
