    Spotting

Learning to spot was what got me over "DOOR" fear On a cessna DZ we teach all students to spot Though when I go to larger DZs with turbines I'm quite happy to let the pilot spot with GPS. 174fps

  10. CSPA uses 1500' in 12sec to terminal then 5s per 1000' 13000' to pull at 3500 equals 9500' free fall. 1500' 12s 8000' 40s equals 52sff for the detailed calculation 1483' in 12s then 174fps thereafter. this is for belly flying , sit or headdown will be faster. 174fps

    Square One

Hi Colin you quite often get the password thing if they are working on the website. I got the same thing at the main site but the catalog site was working OK. Square1 phone# 909 657 8260. also Dropzone.com's very own Skybytch works there. Did you go out to the DZ at the weekend, I passed when the forecast was for 50-70kph winds and the trees outside my home were bending double. See you next weekend andrew
  14. I was just over in the UK for a short visit. Naturally I couldnt go for long without my altitude fix, so I took my rig. I was doing a 2 way RW and the other jumper had this mod on his rig. Never having seen it before, I asked what the benefit was and was told that because the cable bends there is less chance of movement in the plane causing premature deployment. The cables would have to be replaced if they showed any wear. andrew
  15. well... at least with junior jumpers you could call them a "FUNell" or a "Zoo"
  16. same load Frank, you were sitting next to miniDave and Tee was in a 3 way a couple of groups ahead. The 17800' exit alt I took from my protrack. Andrew
  17. when they pressurized the plane my wrist mount went from O backwards about 1000' sat there till they started to depressurize. Then it climed in the usual manner. My protrak did not beep as it passed 1000' which worried me a bit. It beeped on time for break off, my wrist mount worked normally below 13000' the protrak showed 17800' as exit alt. It had showed 11600' on the 21000' dive with 106sec of freefall. I got 80sec on the Fokker jump. 174fps
  18. Went to 21600' in the Twin Otter at Eloy during the Christmas Boogie we had O2 from 12500' up. Went to17800' in the Fokker F27 in kamloops this spring. aircraft was pressurized then gradually depressurized to let door open. 174fps
  19. This link will give you Brian Burke's (from Eloy) opinion http://www.afn.org/skydive/sta/dta/knives.txt
  20. IF YOU BRING IT THEY WILL COME There was an epidemic of "altitude flu" in Alberta on Wednesday over 50 skydivers escaped from work to come and jump Ian's (from pit meadows) King Air at Edmonton Skydive Center. people from every DZ in the province were there. It was a great thrill jumping from a turbine at a one Cessna DZ Ian was in Calgary getting some work done on the plane, Mike our DZO persuaded him to come up for the day. Got here at 2pm , 17 loads later ...last load at 10pm then a soak in the hot tub, and a few brewskis.....great day!!! Andrew
  21. With you being from Canada, Flying High the makers of the sidewinder get cypres in large orders. the benefit is that they charge in C$ and you dont have to worry about duties at the border etc. contact [email protected] 174fps
  22. This is a more important factor than which method you choose. How current you are has a large impact on how fast you progress. I learned on IAD progression, it was good from the canopy learning, and also by the time I got to freefall I was starting to get comfortable about being in the plane, the door opening etc. The down side is that my freefall skills took longer to develop. Friends who took PFF {Canadian equivilant of AFF) progressed much faster with freefall, they had immediate input from the instructors. The cost per jump is cheaper for SL/IAD but I ended up paying about the same just not all in one lump sum. Go skydive Have a blast Andrew
