  1. There was little access to tunnels in '83 when I got the rating, but almost all of us were gold wingers with SL ratings when we took the course. Much easier with that kind of head start. I fail to see, how being a static line/ TI would help in any way in an AFFI-course. What do I not know about SL/TI that would help getting the freefal skills required for AFF? Serious question :) I always thought and have experienced with others that throwing drouges kills freefall skills ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends
  2. 155er ist als max fit gelistet für nen classic 1 nuller Der Spectre sollte aber, solange nicht nagelneu, reinpassen. Wenn nicht dann solange üben bisses geht. Mods please move this to the german section
  3. After 1.300 jumps my Viso2 wouldn't go lower than 350m, no matter if you turned it off or changed the batteries. Sent it in and received a new Viso2+ 5 days later. Not only a replacement but free upgrade within a week. Although I read a lot about their CS I'm still pleasently surprised. Thank you L&B, I will buy again! ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends
  4. another one, pull at 1:13 might be hard to see so pause the video and press . and , to navigate through the video frame by frame https://jointheteem.com/sky/skydiving/skydiving-sumo-wrestler/ ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends
  5. There are demo and test speed reserves out there with a hundred and more jumps on them, still going strong. Where did you get this impression from? Also its pack volume is not two sizes smaller than an optimum, rather more or less the same if only a tad smaller judging by the experience of a couple thousand reserve packjobs done at my riggers place and a few tries by myself. I haven't jumped any reserve so far so can't comment on flying aspects though. ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends
  6. The black ones (400 and 600) are hma, but they are mostly used on their xbraced wings. I bet you could order a black Hma Safire lineset from them though. ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends

    Wind Tunnel.

Please don't get me wrong but I think you expect too much. Your once activ time is long gone, not only has the sport developed a lot but also your body and your abilities have faded. How long since your last jump? I think you should step back a little and reevaluate. You probably didn't have a lot of jumps back then and what you knew at one time in your active time is probably obsolete to a certain degree now. Treat the sport like you were new, which you basically are judging from your other posts on here and bj.com. There's no value in expecting to hop back in right at the point where you once were. That's impossible and just leads to failure and disappointment That beeing said even skygods usually have a hard time during their first tunnel session ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends
  8. Winx by Atair and Epicene by Squirrel should be considered, too. Why 7 cell, though?! Have you flown a PD-Navigator before? ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends
  9. no Magellan by Skylark Volt by PS Cayenne light by Firebird New S-Fire by Icarus Spain Quadra-V-Tec or Faqtor by Paratec Monarch by Precision Aerodynamics ... and a few more depending on what you are looking for in a "Sabre2-like" canopy and how you are going to load it. So, what do you want out of your canopy? ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends
  10. Backup cam for comps. Nothing worse than getting your team a zero round because the cam didn't work. ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends
  11. Justin Price, Arizona Airspeed, 2 Gopros... seems to work just fine ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends
  12. Why does it have separate handles on fronts, and what are the clamps they're attached to? Look vaguely like trim tabs, is that it? and if so, why'd military rigs include that? HAHO jumps, to reconfigure glide and rate of descend. ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends
  13. If you're talking about slowly letting your risers up once you've completed your turn, I strongly object to this technique. I'm only aware of that method of dealing with a SA2/XF2's tendency to pop up so, maybe there's something I'm missing (wouldn't be the first time!)? No, I wasn't. With wrong technique I meant more a combination of steering lines too short, arms not all the way up during recovery ( tail input), too early and/or too much rear riser input, stabbing out because not familiar with speed/ already to low. My titatium femur can testify, why slowly letting up the fronts might be a stupid idea, especially when transitioning from a SA2 to a KA One sollution could be a carved turn, another would be setting up a bit too low and gently pulling yourself out of the dive with a bit of toggle input during the recovery and just when you recover fully arms all the way up again. Only marginally better than hanging on your fronts, when I think it through though... So those are quite advanced and not suitable for beginners. Most popups could probably be avoided by adressing the mistakes I mentioned above. Just watched some old videos of mine, it sure wasn't easy to swoop that 150 SA2 at 1.3 ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends
  14. How did I come up with arch again?! Sorry, way to much RW lately ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends
  15. The shorter recovery arch of the crossfire will teach you perfect accuracy in your setup and technique until the point it gets frustrating and beyond. You'll come out of your turn and getting 'stuck' at 20m above ground alot! The longer recovery arch of the neos will make your first steps into swooping easier but also less forgiving in cases of fuck ups. All things considered I'd get a Katana if I were you. They fly quite like neos, come used cheaper than both of your choices, are really capable canopies if you know how to fly them and in terms of rear riser range beat both xfire and neos. ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends
  16. that's a rather strange generalization if true. I thought they teach more specific things in those courses. Sounds like a rule for beginner swoopers to keep them away from stuff they can't handle until they got the basics down. Unwanted popups are more an issue of wrong inputs rather then wingload. Done correctly lower wingloads can swoop just fine, done incorrectly higher wls will pop up just as well. Search for sabre 2 swoops on youtube, on some of the videos the WL is stated. Only a couple come even close to 1.6, most are below. ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends
  17. Both, xfire ans SA2 have very comparable recovery arcs. I think if you jump them both you'll find the recovery of the SA2 to be just a tiny bit longer but not to an extend where it really matters considering your goals. Range on rears is not very different, pressure on fronts nearly equal, maybe a bit higher on the xfire. The Crossi is more aggressive on toggles though and might react quicker to harness input. Sabre 2s, 120 at 1.5 even more so, are awesome swooping machines, when you already have one keep it until the 270s bore you, then buy a Katana https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MISV7GXi7qc ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends
  18. I really like my comp Velos with RDS at 2.7 for everything from tandem to 20-ways. And they come dirty cheap these days ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends
  19. Dedicated swoop lane, everybody's doing it, grown ass man decission, generally bad judgement proven through not using a audible at all ect. He also might just be doing normal 90-180* hookturns, more or less acceptible if don correctly and at least with my canopies easily fast enough to trigger my dytter. ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends
  20. You might have luck with a fairly well used Sa2 170 and a 120 with a big fat logo on it. But otherwise, no. No container system that I'm aware of has this kind of range, safely containing your choice of canopies. I owned a sunpath Jav Odyssey J3K, jumped everything from a spectre170 down to a 120 Katana in it. The 120 had a pretty big logo on it which made it pack similar to a normal 140+ sqft canopy. A normal 120 didn't fill up the container enough for sufficiant pin pressure even with a loop half as long as recommended. Have you considered any hybrid type of 170? Like Pulse, Silhouette, any ZPX canopy from aerodyne, well used 7cells etc? Why does it have to be a Sabre2? ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends
  21. Depends on the kind of 170 you want to put in there ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends
  22. don't focus too much on your equipment, as long as it is in good and airworthy condition the actual thing that keeps you in good health is skydive training, lot's of it. Both freefall and landing, combined with a good and ever growing amount of theoretical understanding is what should do the trick. Also think twice about the jumps you participate at, skill required vs skill mastered. that being said the things you posted aren't overkill by any means. Lets add - Skyhook MARD - second alti, preferably a digital one for canopy consistency - at least one dytter, preferably with canopy guide (I have two of them in my helmet) - canopy coaching, right from the start!! The more one fears to get injured the more likely he is to actually experience injury... I made that up but You hopefully get what I mean. ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends
  23. Have you tried the search funktion in the top right corner? Typing in "first rig" should answer your question plenty. Really nothing has changed in the last 10 years so even the older threads can hold valuable information for you ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends
  24. I think he means his dytter goes off during his swoop landing, thinking it's in freefall again. As this is the very function it is designed for I don't know any dytter where you can turn THAT off. I always wear earplugs so it doesn't bother me but on the odd jump where I forget them I too think my ears get ripped appart during my swoop. So my solution for you would be to wear hearing protection, at least on the ear with the dytter ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends
  25. It's not mounted on the outside, it's accessible from the outside. The beeper is just as close to your ears as on any other helmet. ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends
