  1. I have to do a search, there's a thread back where I attached most of the TSA policies and the Cypress card etc. I don't know if I still have those. Easy to keep a copy set together while traveling. Also each airline has their own rules - helpful to have those handy. ... 5. This is a really stupid thread - some heirs did plenty to earn their inheritance, some likely did nothing. Either way it doesn't matter. It it's the parent's money, then they can give it to anyone - in return for product or services or just because they feel like it. ... 11. I haven't really seen any of that directly this year. But, neat thing about the internet - if anything good or bad on this subject happens even one place, somewhere, we'll be able to get outraged about it and then argue over how somebody worded a statement in the thread. ... 12. so you're ok with giving money to those who didn't earn it... (what about giving free money to other children) Some are and some aren't in a free society it's called VOLUNTARY charity - it's a right wing thing - if you want to give YOUR money to other children, that's your choice no government needed, less abuse and crookedness and bias as a result - more efficiency glad to see you are figuring out the truth ... 13. I feel that income tax is a different level of taxation that most people find more onerous. It is the one tax that the government says, "I know you earned this money through your hard work, but I am going to take it away from you and your familiy and spend it wastefully because I am bigger than you are". I think if 100% of the people were subject, then 100% would put pressure on the gov't to be more efficient. Now 50% of the voters don't have skin in the game so what do they care? Really nicely written. He understands the basic point just fine. We just acknowledge the other statement (though clear in context) was not absolutely correct in phrasing it. Then the bit will come out of his teeth and we can get off the wasteful and pointless tangent. ... 14. They described the charges on the news and it was bit confusing. something like "consentual sex with two (scandinavian?) girls (different times)" and then they "later met each other and compared notes and decided to file rape charges afterwards". This is a confusing description (I think it was CNN) I believe he's a narcissistic creep and the idea that could have attacked these women is believable, but I wonder why the CNN description was so tortured. ... 16. it's their jobs to prosecute the law as written. If the law is poorly written, that's not the problem of a DA. Unless you NOW want lawyers to "write" law and not legislatures. Your beef in both your examples is with the legislatures, not the judges, not the lawyers. Process should be king. Not expediency in satisfying any specific agenda. ... I'm good with that - I came up with 32.757% luck - you clearly must have transposed the alpha stats and did a 1-alpha. unless you live in Beta risk country You must have even factored in the coefficient of fat guy trying to scare people while in a pressure situation - the gun/grip vs sweaty palms effect numbers are like 0.3177 or more pretty impressive for a 'quick calc' ... 22. We all have different emotions. We all have different opinions, and that's what the original poster asked for. Of course there is an answer, but you won't find it in a university classroom. the prof has a good answer. best one so far. distributions are used to clearly define what is defined as "out of the ordinary" in a measurable repeatable way anything else is just moronic feelings on a subject that should be direct - as soon as 'feelings' start to play, that's when the government starts abusing the money they take or we can digress on fluffy and pointless discussion that should be in bonfire on how "wealth" is defined by how many rigs you own and the quality of the artistic fluffiness of the clouds you'd fall by on warm late spring day with your best girl and a cold beer and a warm feeling toward your fellow man when trumpets blare and you surf on a wet landing area to the smiles of spectators on the way to a family reunion with your blah, blah, blah I'm mostly responding to a post that disregards one man's answer and then goes on to say - "hey, we need to respect everyone's viewpoint here" the disconnect is really cute. so I mock and tease The "original poster originally asked" for a quantified set of dollars in the form of a table to vote on.....the prof has that nailed as he can look up the 2 sigma line, and then check off the box. His "opinion" is just as good as any other and has an extra benefit of adding structure to the debate rather than the flush of subjective self congratulation with no option for a common ground. ... The rich are getting richer, the middle classes are getting poorer, and the nation is going broke. www.dailyfinance.com/story/are-the-rich-getting-richer-the-data-says-yes/19356546/ apparently your acquaintance whom you despise does seem to spend his money and it does create jobs - what is your alternative - take that money, fire the people, and then have the government just give it to those people as welfare? 24. hey John - everybody is over here...income tax your point is valid in terms of contribution by individuals your point is useless in terms of how "the poor" think about ownership of the process and 'concern over how the government spends'. The debate is over wealth, not a few cents added to a cup of coffee. two basic issues in assumptions here: 1 - it's a spending issue vs a taxing issue 2 - the majority of 'rich' spend/save/invest their money vs the majority of 'rich' keep the money in mason jars buried in the back yard ... 25. When the bad guy starts monologuing, you know you're going to get away. Uh, this guy fired multiple shots at people who were sitting right in front of him. Nobody ducked before he fired, and hardly anyone ducked after he fired his first shot. It's incredible luck that none of them were hit. that would depend on his aim and his intent in the video, the only shots I saw looked like he was intending to scare - at that point "incredible luck"? no some luck? sure ...
