  1. sure, but I think the House reading the constitution is just publicity to give the image that they are reminding the dems - the inference being the dems didn't follow the constitution - a legitimate position, but a snotty way to do it - grade school teachers do this kind of thing to 2nd graders - public humiliation by throwing the obvious at them Hopefully everyone actually listens anyway. Edit: However, it's a bit more constructive than just telling them to 'sit at the back of the bus'. ... 4. absolutely - they aren't that different when in power. However, having only the house and not the senate, hopefully that mitigates the GOP attitude enough to at least try to do something for the people rather than for themselves - time will tell, won't it? ... 5. I dont agree It has a chance and they have a chance of overriding a veto Time will tell hopefully after this impotent gesture, I think they have to try this and fail, then they can start chipping at it with some success. But maybe we'll get lucky and it will pass anyway. but it's not veto proof even if the senate does wake up. and the whole reading the entire constitution thing (also grandstanding to the public and being snotty to the Dems in the house - hopefully that evens the score then) then they can go try to find ways to cut spending for real. But I doubt it, the Dems were snotty the whole time and I don't expect the Reps to be any better for the next two years either - they'll blow this opportunity like they all do ... 6. because of his (albeit false) belief in Superman, 4 year old child grows up helping others and trying to do good in every aspect of his life on the otherhand, the next door 4 year old also believed in superman and assumed that bullets would bounce off the mailman - this had a poor result sometimes individual results count and you just can't put a blanket judgment on all 4 year olds when their beliefs affect each one differently - and then "adult" wasted much of his life trying convince the 4 year old that superman is a comic and he grew to be a bitter old man that actually admired the bathing habits of CrW dogs - he never even noticed how good the 4 year turned out to be in life ... 7. Of course it'll be 50/50 but which side will think it's ok and which will fake outrage and vote the other way. Dem appointees - because people don't need privacy and all info is property of the guv'ment or Rep appointees - because, seriously, if you have nothing to hide, why are you worred? the only thing I do know - is whichever side picks a position first, the other side will quickly align to fight them "for the children" ... 13. Trite and simplistic, just as much as Rider's comment. I suspect that for some it's a choice, and for some it's a born trait. I also suspect that for some it's a healthy thing and for others it's not. I also suspect that for anyone about anything, it's never as simple as just one thing. ... 17. it's a near meridian line drawn between Phoenix and Miami I think the point there is we now have a definition that is based on how someone 'takes' it, absolutely regardless of the intent of the speaker and - I think that's a HUGE mistake - it allows for abuse when the claims are about money or position or power. sure the grey areas are about how to determine the "intent" of the claimant and the defendant, and there's no cut and dry way to work that for those of you with no mind reading capabilities..... (Though we sure have a lot here in SC that claim it) ... 19. here's an example - I once said an airplane accident was a "real shame" (in the US, meaning sad and a loss). Then a couple of us had to explain to an upset friend from Singapore that the translation was not that the pilot and the DZ had shamed themselves and did wrong. So there's a carryover from two distinctly different cultures on how the take of a very common phrase means VERY different things. Though I think that politeness requires people to avoid phrases that are INTENTIONALLY HURTFUL, political correctness doesn't mean that at all - PC is normally used today for when someone says something harmless, then the hurt party pretends the other party really used the hurtful phrase, or equivocates the harmless phrase to be the hurtful one - all with the intent to score money or leverage. It's happening in spades above just try to win an argument or to feel justified in judging another just because of superficial political differences. It's nuts. that's why it's pointless now - people refuse to even try to understand another's viewpoint, rather they just knee jerk straight to self superior cliches and start the name calling. polite? yes PC? what does it even mean anymore? ... 23. I think you'll find the term is Christian Theology. Wrong. I find mythology and theology to be equivalent in everything except era interesting tales used to explain things that bother us and leveraged by clever people to establish control over others much like fables, fairy tales, global warming and political correctness the question is, on a personal level does the belief result in more, or less, noble behavior? and that's a question that shouldn't be generalized as to the thread title - the answer is 711, ... 25. Hey Rider the title keeps the thread here with friends - Agree the content has zero to do with sexuality, but without that title (real title "I drove through snow"), those weirdos in Bonfire would be reading it now and it would not be as fun and would degenerate into requests for naked pictures and impotent posing about how fast the junior ego squad drives in the snow this way labrys keeps it in the clean air of the Speakers Corner mental giants - I for one, appreciate it (the title was tongue in cheek I suspect) ...
