  1. That is a very un-educated opinion right there. The benefits of a skyhook extend far beyond the circumstances you have described. Jumping with a skyhook has nothing to do with competence. Please could you explain more? I certainly didn't mean to imply that jumpers with skyhooks are in anyway incompetent, just that one of the most common reasons that I've heard for having a skyhook is that you can cutaway at 300ft. I hear that much more frequently than anything else and find it worrying, as with one exception the person couldn't explain why they would be cutting away below 1k. There is also the case at the Dubai cup 2011 when a Petra canopy collapsed mid turn. Pilot cut away and lived because he had a skyhook. Canopies can also collapse in turbulence, which is more severe and dangerous closer to the ground naturally.
  2. well if you have ever been on your back spinning, you would remember that centrifugal force builds quite quickly. So as soon as the risers are cutaway the tension you were building is released and you are jettisoned horizontally away from the main. When a skyhook is attached and it works correctly as you travel away from the main, you are also traveling away from the reserve as it extracts (since it is attached to the risers after all).
  3. 2 skyhook chops on spun up velos. Never want to own another rig that does not have one again. Both were camera jumps and absolutely no problem with getting clear of the risers. Highly Recommend one.
  4. If that rig did have a skyhook, I believe that reserve deployment would have looked a lot "cleaner".
  5. I have 2 chops with my camera helmet and skyhooks. I understand the concerns of snags, but if you set up your helmet with minimizing snag points in mind, its not really a problem. After the first chop with a skyhook, I swore that every container that I would own there after would have a skyhook or similar system on it.
  6. Hmmmmm.... I remember a day back in byron where you recommended to a newer jumper that he should track off on his back so he could see everybody. Glad to see those bad habits didn't stick around :P
  7. Right, but then he goes back into his track position again, arms behind him, and lets it slip off his shoulder again. Excuse me! If your rig is sliding off your fucking back onto your arms, quit tracking and get your arms out beside or in front of you to hold your rig in place! Doh! Just a hunch but I think TJ knows what he is doing (well over 10k jumps). He might be crazy, but he doesn't want to die. I am sure if he thought he was in any kind of danger he would act accordingly. But I am sure he would love to hear your concerns, why not hit him up on facebook and let him know how you are right and he is going to kill himself.
  8. As I said. Thank you. You're conveniently ignoring the difference between those items and hoodies: those items all provide benefits to the skydive, while a hoodie does not. What benefit does a hoodie provide to your skydive? Does it make you track further? Does it give you fall rate control? Does it make your canopy open better? What? Funny you should ask. It was much colder than expected today. So in freefall I pulled the hood on and tightened the strings to stop my head from burning. So after the first 2 jumps I started using the balaclava. Well it turns out its stretched out. How did I remedy this you may ask? Well I put the hood on first then the balaclava, and it kept my head nice and toasty so I could finish doing tandems today. So yes a hoodie can be useful to somebody in freefall. Before you ask no I won't wear a hard helmet doing tandems. Why? 1. I struggle to hear my students when my helmet is on. 2. I have a metal gopro mount on the front, which could cause some serious damage to the back of the head of my student.
  9. If we treated cocaine the way we do guns, it would be available for sale just for the asking in every street corner phamacy, to anyone who asked for it. What condition would society be in then? We would have so many zombie crack-heads stumbling around that it would be a disaster. Just like gun violence is. Dangerous products like cocaine and guns shouldn't be handed out like candy on halloween. if you are stupid enough to do cocaine, heroin, or Meth, I say go for it. Die already and stop sucking up oxygen
  10. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/In_America_how_many_deaths_are_caused_by_guns_annually Yeah and whats your point? Use a firearm irresponsibly and this can happen. Should we pull up the statistics on how many people die behind the wheel each year? [url]http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_many_deaths_are_caused_by_car_accidents_a_year You can peddle your anti-gun views all you want. Simple fact is cars kill more people each year than firearms. While you are at it, go after the fast food industry for causing so many cases of heart disease and heart attacks. But then again I have a feeling you like your Big Macs and automobiles, so you gotta find something to bitch about don't ya.
  11. Never had my hood whacking me in the back of the head, unless I was back flying (which is just after the ride through on an AFF to see their canopy).
  12. this is not my idea of a good tandem video... but to each his own IMO it was quite ok. Sure a good TI could make it look better, but I guess safety comes first for this DZ? That's an amusing statement considering he never did a freefall handles check. Safety first? I don't think so.
  13. Hills are pretty high and there a decent number of them. From what I recall there are not a lot of fuel stops either. There were a lot of closed down ones though
  14. The answer is yes Thank you Rush. Gravityman seems to have trouble giving straight answers like that. of course that also depends on what state you live in also.
  15. only if Alcohol and car owners pay the same tax. Both of those kill more than firearms every year. And since its America and everybody is overweight you can include McDonald's, Burger King and every other fast food joint in there also. They kills thousands yearly. ETA: I guess you don't consider Switzerland a civilized society? Their government issues assault rifles to its citizens.
  16. Really? When I'm late diver out of the Skyvan on a bigway I don't generally stop on the tailgate and look out for traffic and clouds before exiting. Can't say I've ever seen any other late diver do that, either. in larger groups, if I see somebody I trust check I am ok with that. However If I dont see somebody check I will hesitate ever so slightly do my job of taking care of myself.
  17. In the south we use them to hunt hogs. Couldn't you use something else to hunt hogs instead? I don't think you understand the hog infestation or the people that hunt them. Out in Texas they use helicopters with virtual target sighting and remote control firing mechanisms. That is sort of like a gunship. So you're saying that an AK47 is the only suitable weapon with which to hunt hogs? And that nothing else will do? I find that hard to believe. I tell you what stand in front of a 300lb male hog with 6 inch teeth charging at you. You have one shot to kill the pig. if you put the bullet in the forehead its not gonna penetrate the skull. If you put it in the shoulder the thick cartilage is gonna protect it. Think you can make that shot knowing if you miss the hog might kill you? Doubt it. SO yes being able to fire several rounds at the target quickly makes it a lot easier. And just to be clear wild hogs cause billions of dollars in damage to farmers and ranchers yearly, so yes they need to be eradicated. I don't argue that wild hogs aren't a nuisance and shouldn't be hunted. Granted. But the idea that an AK47 is the only suitable hog hunting rifle is just silly. Any semi-auto rifle of the same or higher caliber would be equally suitable for the job. If you want to preserve your right to own an AK47, you need to find some other justification besides hog hunting. That excuse doesn't cut the mustard. Nobody said they were the only rifle out there. When you go to do some house maintenance which brand of tool do you use? DeWalt, Skil, Makita, Black and Decker? They are all a little different but do the same thing right? Now imagine the government trying to tell you you can only use DeWalt. Why only Dewalt you ask? Skil sounds too much like kill. Makita sounds like my kill ya. Black and Decker implies racism and violence against women? Sounds ridiculous right? So does banning things that you admittedly know nothing about. And scared of something that can be fired repeatdly and quickly?? Yeah ya mean like this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELol1dHjHEE that was all video game technique. So should every firearm be banned now cause if you train you can do that?
  18. Nonsense. Literally millions of people are alive today simply because it would be illegal to kill them. I can think of two or three right off the top of my head. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyoLuTjguJA even the politically controlled media agrees, banning guns doesn't curb gun violence. Adding more laws preventing law abiding citizens from owning and carrying firearms just puts those citizens at a disadvantage when confronted by a criminal
  19. So, then . . . "Assault Weapons" . . . are in fact different than hunting rifles. And since they are -specifically- designed for the purpose of killing human combatants they have no business in the hands of the vast majority of people. Thanks. Actually politicians would consider most hunting rifles as "assault weapons"? Why? Cause there is not a clear set definition of assault weapons. Most hunting rifles can be changed to or are considered "assault weapons" due to things as simple as changing the grip, adding a different muzzle break, or by having a detachable magazine. If you were to lay an M-14, an AR 15, and a springfield M1A out in-front of most people (especially politicians), most could not identify which is the full auto firearm.
  20. would you take a navigator 260 to a swoop comp? How about an para-commander to film CRW? Its about being able to use the right tool for the job at hand. Firearms are just that, a tool. Same as a hammer or saw, pick the right tool for the job.
  21. Even the BATFE doesn't know how to properly label firearms. A machine gun is rarely magazine, but rather belt fed. They are usually large and heavy and use a 2 man team to operate. Also I believe it has to have a certain rate of fire (Rounds Per Minute) to meet the true definition of a machine gun I highly doubt there are 250k privately owned machine guns. Most are probably what are properly referred to as automatic rifles. Those are either fired from the shoulder or the hip and magazine fed. In order for those to be owned by a private citizen or company they have to be 1. Legal in that state 2. Registered and Licensed through the ATF There are several steps in getting them legally registered. Labeling a firearm an "assault rifle" is like calling every smart phone an Iphone. Its just not accurate. The problem with the current law is nobody can clearly define what makes a firearm an assault-rifle is this an assault rifle?? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBjUDCyDCuI The answer is no. It is a full auto pistol. Although very rare they do exist. Can it cause massive causalities in a large group of people. You bet. Think back to the Charles Whitman who killed 13, and injured 32 in 1966. Did he use an assault rifle?? Nope he used a couple of bolt action rifles and a shotgun. Just like the debate in the swoop forum, ANY canopy can be swooped. All it takes is the right pilot. ANY firearm can kill people, its just up to the operator to choose how it will be used. 23. So maybe then we should ban small handguns. According to the FBI, violent crime went up 18% last year. Seems like a good time to do it. So EVERY violent crime is committed with a firearm?? No wonder ammo manufacturers can't keep up. Banning things this country has never worked. Cocaine, Prostitution, drunk driving (alcohol all together). All of these things are "banned"/ illegal. Last I checked the DEA, ATF, LEO are all busy trying to stop these things.
  24. Even if he imposes more idiotic attempts to impede 2nd amendment rights, that will not lower the number of crimes committed with firearms. Banning firearms does not stop criminals from having or using them. All it stops are those people who want to own them legally. Personally I don't expect law enforcement to come and save me if I call 911 about a home invasion. Also I don't expect the paramedics to save the home-invader after I fill him/her with holes.
  25. sounds perfect I was wondering how I was gonna mount the flash
