  1. I have no problem in larger aircraft, they will also turn the red light on. Smaller aircraft the pilot just taps me on my shoulder. what about midsized craft like say a king air that has no lights? I personally can't hear my students when I wear a helmet. Not hard of hearing at all, there is just a good amount of padding that buffers what I can hear. I can see both sides of the helmet issue, but still jump without it.
  2. how easy is it to hear a pilot telling you not to go (or anything for that matter) with a hard helmet on? Or have a conversation with your student?
  3. not sure, I have heard you can't sign away all your rights. I have heard of lawyers walking right through the waiver, but it seems like it does protect those who follow the rules
  4. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFVINO-BqCw&feature=youtu.be fresh up on youtube. I really like some of the new points they added. Guess UPT is sending copies to SIGMA owners
  5. I was in office and they stated the same thing. They don't repair them.
  6. it can help with some things like body position. BUT IT CANNOT PREPARE YOU FOR EVERYTHING ELSE!!!! such as 1. altitude awareness 2. canopy control 3. gear awareness 4. comfort falling through the sky
  7. Ummmmm...no it might help to get spin stop reps to figure out timing or rollover practice so you can take your time as not to snag a handle. But I agree NOTHING REPLACES IN AIR TRAINING TIME.
  8. I'm curious as well. Its gonna come as a real shock to realise I've been doing it all wrong for nearly 40 years..... The new generation are just full of surprises to go with their mad skillz...... Techniques do evolve and ... SHOCK HORROR... even improve in some cases. It might pay to keep your mind open to new techniques and methods instead of dismissing them as "mad skillz" before understanding what they are. +1 If techniques didn't progress how are the top 4 way teams able to average 25+? I am not claiming that all the information given to students from 15+ years ago is bad or irrelevant. I am saying that with the advent of tunnels and coaching from world class teams there are techniques and training methods that make it easier for students. Will I get into specifics, no. Why? I don't want to get into a pissing contest with who knows what or who teaches better than who.
  9. Interesting point. What would hurt to have students make a few "hop n pop" style exits and p/c touches at full altitude during progression jumps? Excuse my ignorance on the issue, as I haven't held a rating for a decade. depends where they do their aff at. At SDC they have students exit stable, then later in the course they exit poised front float facing the tail intentionally causing the unstable exit. The HP there are done from 5 then 3.5. On both of those its emphasized that you get stable first before pulling (obviously we caveat that you need to be alti aware). But the main thing is they drill the students on the ground a lot. Where I am now... They use antique techniques from 15-20 years ago, that often cause more problems then they "fix"
  10. Quite probable, Bob had also done some stunt work.
  11. I always thought the T2 was plenty fast enough. How many do you really need? If frame rate is what you are in need of pick up a used 50d
  12. No. See below. The problem is that we don't have a consistently applied definition of "line dump" in the skydiving community. Thus many say that line dump DOES NOT lead to hard openings -- because "line dump" refers only to the lines other than those in the locking stows dumping out. If the locking stows go or the canopy in any way starts coming out of the bag prematurely, that's a separate category, "bag strip". Others say line dump DOES lead to hard openings, because if the lines in one or more of the locking stows dumps out prematurely, the canopy can start inflating prematurely. Lines are lines, and anything they prematurely dump out of, including locking stows, therefore counts as "line dump". Thus much of the battle is about the definition of "line dump", not what the cause of hard openings is. If people honestly believe the 1st definition of line dump that you give, then I have line dump every jump. Quite a few people now jump semi-stowless bags. There are only 2 stows and the rest is free stowed like a reserve.
  13. well on this site you never can assume what somebody's intentions are.
  14. well considering Bill has banned anything over a 90, while some learning will happen he won't be learning a 270
  15. if you send the vector2 back to UPT you will not get it back. They will give you a discount on a new sigma. And don't feel bad about jumping them. I on occasion still have to jump elicpses!!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. Actually, pchapman is right. They are required with the install of floats. that may be true, but what they do is give ya that last 3% of rudder when fully loaded
  17. its an add on for maximum control under fully loaded conditions.
  18. C'mon And You're not going to toss that old rag out there are you? It makes about as much sense as patching a submarine with stucco! We're talking about ILLEGAL aliens getting a free pass into this country and a sold-out son of a bitch for a president. How convenient that he passes this 'law'... 4-months from an election! Chuck My response was to the OP's Neanderthal use and abuse of the term "True and Sincere Patriotic Americans". Fuck that, on about 5 different levels. As an aside, show me one past or current president (or candidate for same) or member of Congress (ditto) who wasn't/isn't a sold-out son of a bitch, and I'll show you.... well, maybe Gerry Ford, but really nobody else. So please don't get all sanctimonious on us. (That's my job.) Does Ron Paul count?
  19. In terms of Photo noise? I was looking at the other G12 thread and had an idea to put my 270ex II flash on my G12, set it to low light mode to increase the frame rate and see what happens. As mentioned by many, a lot of these stills are for online posts or at most a 8"x11". Can noise really be seen in these instances? I know a lot of us want zero noise, but that isn't always possible. So in terms of STRICTLY tandem photos how noisy can we get and still have good quality stills?
  20. Just hoping people realize there is a difference between shooting a burst on say exit or deployment and spray and pray. Having said that I have been trying to find the sweet spot on a G12 for a while. I also feel the pain of the slower frame rate of the G12
  21. actually there are a couple of different "L"s IIRC
  22. not really only 1 body under a tandem main is a long ride down
  23. OK, I got: Instructors googles on his forehead on exit. What else? geez i missed the goggles, all i noticed is the horrible framing of the video
