  1. It can certainly help to jump, but it is not required.
  2. I'm a weekend warrior so I've tried to build up a kit that I can keep in my car and put up/break down easily. Currently rocking this after my good ol' tent decided to blow down/break/leak one night. A little pricier than I was hoping, but it handles the elements perfectly and it packs down well. I didn't feel like dealing with an air mattress so I went with a pad and some pillows instead. I've never had much luck with cheap tents anyway. I pick a sleeping bag based on the weather, I've got a lightweight one for the summer and a down one for early spring/fall. Other miscellaneous things include a solar charger for my phone, hammock, and swimming/shower stuff. Though I didn't bring a stove with me this year, I think I'll invest in one for next year.
  3. If someone doesn't know what reddit is, I highly doubt they're going to know 4chan either.
  4. It's not private and there's a box on the subreddit that tells you who the moderators are.
  5. Why start with the manufacturer? Don't be silly!
  6. Perhaps you just worded it poorly, but why on earth did you jump if you didn't feel prepared?
  7. Good lord, as an aerospace guy this makes my brain hurt
  8. I wish they'd do a better job hosting them, most of the rounds I've tried 404
  9. Just the first to break the speed of light!
  10. I can't imagine broken or dead people buy many canopies

  12. I would absolutely disagree. This is a very intellectually dishonest argument. There is no fuzzy logic going on here, 'less' dangerous is still dangerous, and a low experienced jumper gains nothing from the increased risk. Talking at people is not going to make the camera less distracting. You stick a camera on them and they're going to fly differently. You can't magic experience onto someone, no matter how hard you try.
  13. It's nice that you're conjuring this argument for me. I'm not going to play that game, sorry. I never said you did. You are, however, putting a significant amount of effort into downplaying those risks with statements like "I don't see a whole rash of deaths" and "holy fear of cameras." You know exactly what you're doing, and it's more than whining about the mean old farts telling you you're not experienced enough to fly a camera yet. If your goal is honestly about safety, you'd have a much different attitude than what you're displaying.
  14. Stop being a drama queen. It has nothing to do with intelligence. The issue is experience, and that's exactly what everyone has said. No it was not. Your very first statement was that cameras aren't as dangerous as everyone says. You stated this as a fact and there was no question anywhere in your post. This is markedly different from your packing analogy; you were looking for advice from the get-go because you knew your packing was awful. A more 'perfect' analogy to what you've been saying is exactly what I presented.
  15. Here's what you're doing wrong: You're not listening. Here's how you can do it better: Listen. Cut it out with the pedagogical rambling.
  16. Know what else does this? Jumping with experienced fliers. You'd get far better footage and far better advice and the most it would cost you is a jump ticket. What even? This is a terrible analogy. Are you sitting there telling them your trashpack is superior? It'll open, what's there to be afraid of?
  17. Tunnel rigs are just rigs with the flaps and handles supertacked in and dummy canopies for weight. Unless you're up close, you're probably not even going to notice a difference (unless you see the 'dummy' spraypainted on it ). Flying with the ruck is actually pretty fun once you figure it out, gives you a great workout. To the OP: Many tunnels won't allow tunnel rigs (they like their windows unscratched) but if they do, chances are they will have one for you to use.
