Sarah Sanders, Feed her, or boot her?

Recommended Posts

Detestable as she is, I'd serve her, or put words on a cake for her. I'd be encouraging keeping society a little bit civil as well as functioning smoothly.

(Not like there have never been divisions in society, even if Trumpworld is unique. In the '60's, some were considered long haired hippies who wouldn't conform to the normal laws of society, while others were seen as child-napalming killers...)

I suppose if the payment-for-services for Sarah would involve a lot of personalized service, where the ties are seen to be closer between her and me, then I would feel I could refuse. I could choose not to become her lawyer, or not be her ad agency to promote a small business if she had one. I think I could also refuse if she wanted to have a Sarah Hucky Sanders Charity Event at my dining establishment.

Society probably can accept any of the above, but I'm not sure of the legal justification. "I'll do business with her, but don't want to be ASSOCIATED with her."

Grey areas are always interesting, about where lines get drawn.

Even if someone were a murderer, I'm not sure whether I'm allowed to refuse service. (Depending on they are believed to be one, are charged, are convicted, or have done their time.)

"You do understand that, after a Nazi ran a car into a crowd and killed a woman, that Trump defended the Nazis, saying that some of them were "Fine People", don't you? "

A Nazi? I thought it was some loser named James Alex Field, not some aging survivor of WW2. Did he shout Seig Heil before giving it the gas? Did he have a swastika emblazoned on his walker, since he'd be at least in his 90s now.

Not a German Veteran of WW2, but still a Nazi supporter, reportedly 'idolizing Hitler." Maybe not an official member of any white supremacist group, but he certainly displayed their symbols.

You do know that they are still around, don't you? They continue to espouse the principles and policies of Hitler and the Nazi party.

The Illinois Nazis that fought to hold a march in Schaumberg weren't German or old. But they were still Nazis.

The ones in Charlottesburg were marching around waving Swastika Flags. I don't know if their group charter specifically includes the words "Nazi" or "National Socialist Party", but if they wave the flag, they get the name.

CHARLOTTESVILLE — A man accused of plowing a car into a crowd of activists here — killing one person and injuring 19 — long sympathized with Nazi views and had stood with a group of white supremacists hours before Saturday’s bloody crash.

The alleged driver, James Alex Fields Jr., a 20-year-old who traveled to Virginia from Ohio, had espoused extremist ideals at least since high school, according to Derek Weimer, a history teacher.

Weimer said he taught Fields during his junior and senior years at Randall K. Cooper High School in Kentucky. For a class called “America’s Modern Wars,” Fields wrote a deeply researched paper about the Nazi military during World War II, Weimer recalled.

“It was obvious that he had this fascination with Nazism and a big idolatry of Adolf Hitler,” the teacher said. “He had white supremacist views. He really believed in that stuff.”

So it's perfectly fine to refuse service to people because of their sexual orientation (for example the baker who refused to make a wedding cake for a same-sex wedding), but it's not OK to refuse service to someone who advocates hurting children to send a message to their parents? :S>:(

Don

Did you read this Ron? I'll bet you felt all warm and fuzzy when the baker beat the gays. I expect you'll deny it but no one will believe you. And I'll also bet you were immediately outraged that SS was pitched out of a restaurant for what she believes and does and who she does it with. Because that's different, right?

I believe strongly that any business person has the right to refuse service to anyone.

I'm no fan of the POTUS, as he lies constantly and is wrecking America.

I'm no fan of Sarah Sanders, as she lies about his lies.

However...

This is a microcosm of politics in America and the divide.

I used to own the Bent Prop in Eloy and a drop zone in California.
If I allowed my employees to vote on who we served, a few of you never would have gotten a burger or a jump.:P

Tossing Sanders out was a bullshit move. The owner could have asked to speak with her about policy. If Sanders didn't want to talk, she could have just moved on. Serve her dinner.

We hate discrimination, unless it works towards our bias.

What Sarah Sanders did on her government Twitter account was a bullshit move and an ethics violation.

What Trump did on Twitter was a continuation of his complete lack of class he has shown his entire life.

What protesters are doing on social media and other protests against the Red Hen (even the wrong one) is a bullshit maneuver.

And old man Huckabee saying the restaurant was serving up bigotry was a joke, because he is the king of bigots.

This divide in the USA will only get worse.

If the gay baker can choose so they can the restaurant owner.

No-one ever said the gay baker couldn't choose. No-one except right-wing extremists making an extremely misguided point, anyway.

Yep. It was a different time. Today we have actual, admitted Nazis running for public office. Strange days.

Ambulance companies? Private utilities? Airlines that make you swear you aren't Christian prior to boarding? What about "Colored Only" bathrooms? If that's what a private business person wants are you good with it?

Your way, unfettered, would lead to homogenous enclaves of petty and self satisfied racists, homophobes, religious extremists and confused nincompoops. Everyone deserves the same fair shake as the 14th amendment intended.

The difference between the cake baker and Sanders is that the gay couple were simply being who they are without lying or causing harm to anyone. Sanders can make no such claim.

I think she had the right to deny service. However I would have served her party. She's hungry and out with friends, why interject politics everywhere. Her job is no different than that of a lawyer representing a child molester.

trump is another story. If the opportunity came about to shake his hand. I'd be tempted to squeeze his little man-child hand so hard he's need a cast for a year. But realistically, I just refuse to shake his hand and call him out as a Nazi-scumbag.

Let's not forget that a genuine bona fide Nazi is the official GOP candidate for the Illinois 3rd Congressional District.

The GOP may give lip service to disavowing Nazis, but the Nazis certainly know who their friends are.

Well, apparently the owner may have been in the wrong. I'm not sure I agree. I am of the opinion that a business owner may refuse service to individuals, based on their individual behavior. Either in or out of the place of business. For example, a cake baker could refuse to make a cake for a child molester (based on behavior) but not refuse a gay couple (discriminating against a group).
Interesting article. I've seen it before, and it was recently updated to include this incident.

And I will disagree that Sanders is "just doing a job". A child molester needs a lawyer (anyone accused of a crime does). There's virtually no way for an amateur to successfully navigate the criminal justice system.

OTOH, Sanders is a senior staffer to a horribly flawed President. This is a highly paid, very prestigious position. She does a reasonably competent job of supporting the Mango Mussolini and his policies. She routinely lies to the press and the public. Bad comparisons and false equivalencies.
I'm not going to go so far as to compare her to Goebbels, but if she had any decency, she would not have taken the job in the first place.

And I don't think it's Sanders who is coming out of this with a black eye, reputation wise. A lot of old stereotypes got reinforced here.

In a normal administration she would, since it looks like her response violated federal law. But in this administration, illegal activity is the norm, and a little thing like a violation of federal ethics laws doesn't even move the needle.

Ex-White House Ethics Chief: Sanders’ Tweet on Restaurant Eviction Violates the Law

By DANIEL POLITI
SLATE

JUNE 24, 201811:36 AM

When Sarah Huckabee Sanders took to her official Twitter account to recount how she was kicked out of a Virginia restaurant, it launched a vicious online attack campaign against the establishment. It also amounted to a violation of federal ethics laws. At least according to the former head of the U.S. office of Government Ethics. “Last night I was told by the owner of Red Hen in Lexington, VA to leave because I work for @POTUS and I politely left,” Sanders tweeted on Saturday from her official @PressSec account as online reports about the incident began to spread. “Her actions say far more about her than about me.”

Walter Shaub, who was the federal government’s top ethics watchdog for five years until mid-2017, said the tweet amounted to a clear violation of federal ethics laws. “Sarah, I know you don’t care even a tiny little bit about the ethics rules, but using your official account for this is a clear violation of 5 CFR 2635.702(a),” Shaub wrote on Twitter. He was referring to a section of the law that says government employees can’t use their public position for private gain. “It’s the same as if an ATF agent pulled out his badge when a restaurant tried to throw him/her out,” Shaub explained.

I think this can be pursued in two distinct ways. One, was it legal? I don't know and that's not what I find really interesting about it. The real question is whether or not it was the right thing to do.

I thought I already said, but anyway I'd starve to death before I'd eat at this place. They weren't being asked to do anything but their jobs. Instead of being adult and professional they acted like sniggering assholes. 'We can do this and we are, hooray.'
Here's their chance to show the world that they're bigger than Trump but they did the opposite. And I would never eat anything that this crew has been alone with. What if they got a glimpse of me from the kitchen and didn't like how I looked? "He's got a skydiving shirt on, he's one of those rich military type assholes who are ruining our world and obviously a Trump supporter." Spit soup.
Imagine how low you have to go to make Sarah Sanders look good by comparison but in my opinion that's exactly what they did.

Are you relying on a fake news site, or are you being intentionally dishonest in your representation of what happened? There's no indication that Sanders was treated disrespectfully when she was asked to leave. They didn't "act like sniggering assholes." They acted like human beings of high moral character and conscience. If you're offended by such people, I'm sure they would welcome you to eat elsewhere.

Airlines and restaurants have to deal with competition. Let them do what they want. The marketplace will determine the final outcome.

Of course, it is what it is but that does not change my beliefs.

You missed the point, again. Moving on, Ambulance companies are often private concerns. AMC is big and provides both emergency and non-emergency transport. If your wife needed transport you wouldn't want some libtard Oregonian driver denying transport for Christians. Any claim that you think it would be free market cool is flat bullshit. Nor would you let her sweat it out while you called another company if, against luck, I was the driver and wanted to spend the entire trip asking you to defend your insistence in being so obtuse.

There are private utilities and there are private water systems just as there are privates behind your zipper. The first two, were they throttled, might have serious and detrimental effects on the users were some asshat bigot who had control so minded. That is contrary to our values as a people, even including you. The last is yours to throttle. No arguments from me.

That you did not bristle at the implication that "Colored Only" facilities could be imposed by a private business advertises for all to see that you are a racist. That is not at all unusual for Southern Christians so it's no surprise that you lighted where you did.

Ron, before you transition get off your beliefs and go somewhere. Anywhere. Well, not a Chick-fil-A. I mean Kuala Lumpur or Jakarta or Bangkok or any of a shitload of places that are multicultural. Just sit and talk to people. Not about what you want them to believe but about what they are thinking. Listen to their lives. Try to see things as they see them just to understand. Or end your days in nowhere Georgia with a bag over your head, plugs in your ears and an ancient book of unerring truth in your hands.
