I also note that debt is also contributed by spending a lot. LEt's say the government did not spend over $3 trillion last year and instead limited it to, oh, say $1.5 trillion. WOuld the debt have increased? I'd venture to say "no."

Have you ever considered that the answer is more complex than Republicans bad? I agree that there is little difference between the GOP and Democrats - they both suck ass. However, our history seems to show that a GOP Congress and a Dem POTUS is the only time when things start approaching some degree of rationality.

In the 1980s Ronald Reagan allowed the financial sector to deregulate. Reagan's policies started the whole financial sector slide. But Bill Clinton allowed this deregulation to expand in the 1990s. Under Clinton's watch, Citicorp and Travelers was allowed to merge into Citigroup to create the largest financial services corporation in the world. But this merger was illegal since banks with consumer deposits were not supposed to be allowed to engage in risky banking activities. Under Clinton's watch the financial services regulators turned a blind eye to this merger until Congress was able to change the law. The investment banks were then allowed to fuel uncontrolled speculation in the DOT.COM businesses (most of which were bogus) and this resulted in the DOT.COM bubble starting to burst in 2000 (all before GWB came on the scene). In his 8 years, GWB allowed further abuse in the financial services sector and now we are where we are today. You need to take your partisan blinders off as a non-partisan would blame Reagan, Clinton and GWB for the mess we find ourselves in.

Oh to get back on topic, I caught "The Donald" today saying something about how he is happy he helped bring this "Birth Certificate" issue out in the open but he was still waiting for verification that the certificate was authentic. The guy is a Doofuss. But he was right about one thing, the media has been all over "The Donald" dissecting his every move. The media on the other hand has given Obama a free pass. Hollywood has created this Obama savior of the world myth and it is amazing that some people still view the community organizer lawyer as their messiah. Obama is not a stupid man. But he is no savior, he is no messiah and he did not have the experience to be president. He was simply a media created icon and the lemmings ate it up with all his "Hope and Change" nonsense.
