Elsinore burnt down

Recommended Posts

No one is physically injured.

It started in the Tandem Packing area. The Tandem Packing area and the entire video editting room & gear storage to the student suit up room is gone. All the tandem rigs, and all of the instructor's gear and camera equipment is gone. it took the fire dept 15 minutes to get here.

i don't know what else to say. got any rigs we can borrow?

Oh my God...I couldn't sleep. I logged on and read this. Oh God, I'm so sad that I'm teary-eyed and want to throw up. I can't believe this. How could this happen!?! :( Lew, WHEN exactly did this happen?

At least no one was hurt. I am completely shocked. I LOVE that place. What kind of help do they need besides help with rigs? :(

that is the last thing I ever wanted to hear...................................................................................................................................................................

Reading this brought me a little closer to home though, and I've got to say, no one hurt=good. and insurance is around for a reason....

arson.... which is the only possible actual answer I can think of... whats there that would "spark" other than the fire pit?

As long as Ground Zero is in good shape.

My thoughts are with you guys!

Take Care,
hoping it was electrical and not a firestarter. And if it was may they get caught and beaten before they're jailed.

The place is lookin so cozy of late too! Complete fucking bum deal.... WTF?!!!

The Fire Department is still here putting out the smoldering embers. The school and staff packing is almost completely gone. The fire may have started in a heating unit - that is just the "it look like it might have..." from one of the firemen.

All of the tandem rigs, student rigs, and instructors personal gear, video gear, editing equipment, jumpsuits, et cetera, et cetera, is gone.

I can't believe how completely fucked up this is...

you can work for Breaking Wave Productions, but I'll be living out of the car and on the DL come rent day myself..... Isn't that gear insured? Can't get "freshies" in the mail in a couple of weeks?

Bro. I can't express how I feel for the family up there. That is seriously fucked. You guys are my mentors, and this is not making me a happy camper to hear... I'm with Vanilla Sky Girl on this... I may be puking before the night is through. keep your stones Cajones, it'll pass and everybody will be back on top. And let this pass through you and not root in you guys. Unless it was arson, then let it root sniff that fucker out and kill em.

the dropzone has insurance. we don't. we're not sure if the dz insurance will cover instructor's gear. That is our only hope right now. Ed's personal loss is 2 rigs, if you know him, those Mirage's with the embroidary on them. 2 pc120's,a Canon 10D, 3 jumpsuits, 3 helmets, and numerous little stuff, altimeters, cam-eye's, swain cams, another still camera and lots of camera accessories....
Most of the instructors keep their gear in that storage area, all of their gear. The school lost all the Tandem Rigs and Student rigs, all the video equipment, 7 stations of tv's vcrs, dvd recorders, etc. The sum of te loss of all the school's equipment and the instructor's personal equipment is enourmous.

Ed is serious. He is really going to need a job and new gear. I don't know what we're going to do.

I'm sitting here, sick to my stomache, smelling like fire. with water and that foam on my clothes. They shut off all the power and water everywhere, so we can't shower, and i'm running on battery now. I found one of our helmets, melted and burnt, i'd take a picture but i can't. when ed said the building is almost gone, well, no,it's gone. all that's left of that buildingis a few embers and the steel doors. You can see clear through the smoke to the other side. it's a disaster.

this is twice for Ed. He had a house fire in South Carolina like 5 years ago or something.

i just keep telling myself no one is hurt.

didn't CSS have a fire years ago? how did they recover?

Sweetie, If I had 100Grand I'd buy you guys new shit right now.... Really my heart goes out to you. I'm talkin with Vanilla Sky Girl right now and we're in disbelief. I wish that this pass quickly and that the insurance companies show favor towards your plight.

I'm starting a new construction job at Pachanga casino Monday. I live in Colton. But I'll be staying at the Motel 6 in Temecula til I see how the job goes. I'm self grounded right now. I have an extra TV and VCR and a brand new Vector 3 never jumped. Also a Sony TRV 25 camcorder. Maybe I can help. I'll be in town tonight and I'll call. Who should I call? Lob?

OMG! This is horrible to hear :(

A few years ago I was in 'transition' as far as finding a place to live, and spent a few weeks with a friend. I brought an expensive stereo and a computer.

One day there was an accident outside the house in which someone hit a power pole. It cause an electrical surge to come through the house and fry ALL electronics.

Her insurance covered my stereo and computer - perhaps their insurance will cover your things also?

Good luck - this is just horrible to hear :(

Shit man.. really really sorry to hear that :( The main thing is everyone's alright though.. you're all alive to jump another day!

I've got my fingers crossed for you guys, hope the insurance etc comes through ok :|

Edit: Is there ANY chance your own personal insurance might cover it? I know on my student insurance, even away from home, wherever I am, some of my stuff is protected against fire, theft, accidental damage etc. But maybe that's just something for students [:/]

Any of the SA people know how they delt with this?

Offers of help from friends quickly poured in from near and wide. We hired some parachutes from a few sources to keep on jumping. Other people donated old (and not so old) gear, and even cash, to the cause. Some just gave their regards, we appreciate it all.

Hopefully all the other (many) dropzones and jumpers in California will put aside politics to help out fellow jumpers in a similar fashion to the above. As we have read here it is not just a business taking a knock, it is skydivers losing their livelihood.

Oh, what terrible news to wake up to. Like Lew said, it's so good that no one was hurt. But, there's devistation in so many other ways. [:/]

I agree with Will. Once we find out what the insurance will or will not cover, we all need to help out. Everyone I know has a budget they live on, but most of us also still have jobs and our gear. We can find ways to squeeze our dollars to help out.

If you have any home owners insurance yourself, check up on that. You never know, your property might be covered through that.

What an aweful thing to have to go through. I agree with Skymama, we all live (well I assume a large majority of us do) on a budget. I can only recommend a PayPal accunt be established for donations for the instructors to help recoup their gear if the DZ insurance doesn't cover it. It's easy to do and if only DZ.com'ers throw a few bucks in the account I am sure it will add up quickly. I know personally, I would be more than happy to donate my next weekends jump budget to help. If there is no one wanting to establish this right now due to the overwhelming emotional state of mind that must be ringing through the Elsinore family, I'd be more than happy. I personally have only been through Elsinore once driving from San Diego to Northern Cal but did not get to jump due to weather, none the less I got to sit and chat with a few people and everyone that was there made me feel welcome.
I am sincerely saddened to ehar, but very happy there was no one hurt.

There will be Blue Skies above Elsinore again soon, the place is to wonderful for there not to be.

:(:(:(Lew, Cajones, and compadres-- We are so sorry to hear about this. Please let us know what, short of hitting the lotto, that we can do to help. If you'd like PM me; perhaps we can work something out for gear until Spring. We'll be thinking of you and hoping for a speedy positive outcome of the investigation and insurance settlement. Oh, so sorry... I've never been to Elsinore, but it makes me want to cry. (and then kick someone's ass.) Robin

i'm real new to the skydiving world, and to the dz.com world, and i dont know anyone personally out in elsinore. but i do website design, database design, and stuff like that and would be more than happy to set up a donation site for people to donate to a "new gear fund" for all you guys. or funds for whatever else may not be covered by the insurance. if anyone would be interested in starting something like that just PM me. big hugsand hopes for a quick recovery to everyone out there!!
