What do you do for a living, and do you love/hate it?

Recommended Posts

My field: graphic design. It's my love and passion, and I taught it for 3 years. Quit in May and looking for a full time design gig. Freelancing on the side. Wish there was more of it but I love it.

Currently: work in an engineering firm as a technician to pay the bills. Don't like it at all, boring work, but pays the bills.
Also I work as a doorman/bouncer at a live music bar. Fun job, and I only hate it when i have to clean up at the end of the night:P

what's your current employment situation?

I manifested at 2 different dropzones for the past two years. Just gave it up to move to upstate NY with my boyfriend.

Unemployed and desperate for a job in Albany now but I don't regret moving. I adore my boyfriend and he is really really supportive.

I miss being at the dropzone all the time but to be honest its nice to go as a fun jumper and actually be able to hang out instead of being stuck in the box!

I'm looking for any admin/clerical work I can find right now, I want to be able to enjoy evenings and weekends off again!

I am an Army contractor and I work as a sport psychology consultant. Basically, I teach Soldiers how to be mentally strong in order to optimize their performance in whatever task they are doing.

Pros: Great pay, great benefits, year-round jumping

Cons: my co-workers aren't that great, my bosses suck, I'm far away from my family, stupid office politics

Recently I have been seriously thinking about getting out of this job but I don't want to leave the pros about it. Anyone who knows of a job in my line of work in the northeast, send me a PM please!

Drive truck over the road. I have an unusual schedule, 7 days out, 7 days off.

Love it. There are days that suck (and the worst ones of the year are coming), I have to deal with the idiots who can't drive on a daily basis, (see THIS THREAD for some of what I have to deal with) and the traffic in major cities can be a pain, but overall it's a fabulous job.

Last year, I woke up one winter morning (well before dawn) in Rapid City SD and headed east. I got to watch the entire sunrise over the plains that morning.
The sunset over the Utah desert (on I70 near Green River) is incredible.

Seeing the beauty of the country we live in (and some of Canada) is one of the most enjoable things in my life. Seeing how bad some of the parts are makes me appreciate what I have (Detroit is a pit, so are parts of Cincinnati).

As I say to my friends, I get in the truck, roadtrip all over the country for a week, then get home and have a week off. It sure beats working for a living.B|

I'm envious as I work in business development with lots of travel and writing. The pressure can get overwhelming at times, but jumping has a way of making the week go better.

Being on the road quite a bit I have a lot of respect for truckers. For the most part they are quite courteous even though they are in a job that can be tedious.

Most motorists don't realize that the original highway system we all use was enacted in 1956 and though it was lobbied by automobile manufacturers, it was enacted to facilitate interstate commerce. In other words “products transported by the trucking industry”. So technically trucks should have the right of way over cars.
You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime

I am a Respiratory Therapist. Currently unemployed however I just finished Truck Driving School. Testing this Wed. for the Class "A" CDL. I'm going to be travelling like wolfriverjoe for CRST. I'll be out for at least three weeks at a time, accruing one and a half days for every week out. So I plan on staying out 6 weeks and having up to nine days off. Whenever I "Reset my Clock" OTR, I'll think I'll be jumping somewhere. B|

After being between jobs for a while, I now have contract software development for cellphones (BlackBerry, iPhone, Android, etc). It also means I get to travel too, as I work on contract outside of my hometown. And it pays for all the big way events and the tunnel time.

Pay is excellent, work is okay on average -- sometimes fun, sometimes you get those deadline crunches. Self employment is good, but doing business taxes is dreadful, however - getting caught up on that after a period of no income.

I get to run a dropzone. My job? Making sure my customers are having a good time - always.

Trying to take care of my staff too, who work hard , but can be difficult within the 'corporate' structure, which I think needs a lot of work.

making sure people leave with a smile on their face is the best part.

Yep, my job sucks.....

I am a state certified electrical sign contractor. Partners in a commercial sign shop. We make signs, menu's, awnings and some architectural structures. On the other side of the company we do graphics, cars, trucks, boats we even wrapped an airplane and a helicopter.
I love my job most of the time. I enjoy taking designs and making them come to life. The part I don't enjoy as much is the actual running of the business as we have grown. It was a lot easier when it was me 1 helper and a truck.

check this out to see what we do 1

I identify and assess risk for a credit card company. Been doing the risk assessment piece for four years now. It wasn't my first career choice (my education is in psychology and forensic science), but really like it. Don't like my management at the moment, but the pay is good, I only work M-F, and I can work from home as often as I want. Its a global company and I just applied for a one year secondment in New Zealand. I'm hoping that works out because I would love to live in New Zealand for a year!
