  1. I have gotten completely addicted to the tunnel. I started jumping late in the season, so I had low (and still low) jump numbers coming into my first session. I have somewhere like 3 hours in the tunnel and just 30 jumps or so. Having a tunnel 30 minutes away is just a godsend. I like it because I can try all the freeflying stuff in the safety of the tunnel, and when I try it in the sky, I already feel comfortable doing it in the tunnel. probably opposite how some people learn.
  2. That response looked like a kid in HS being asked about the reading, when he clearly hadn't done it. His body language is what really did him in, not the pause. The stammering and asking reporter to confirm it. I really don't care about the women with Cain, the thing with him is he is a 1 trick pony. His 9-9-9 plan is what he is hoping he can ride all the way to the white house. His foreign policy knowledge is pretty weak, his response is to listen to the generals and ask them. Yes you listen to your commanders on the ground, but as the commander in chief you have to set the top line directive and give the overall vision for how any conflict will take shape. He is doing the republican party a disservice by staying in the race. On a larger note, with everyone getting a chance at being the front-runner, the chances of people dropping out of the race before votes are cast is unlikely, which will hurt the R party more than help it. I am not a supporter of either side, but I do keep close tabs, and strategically the republicans are hurting themselves by not cutting the fat in these primaries (although its not the parties choice but the will of the candidates) I bet Tim Pawlenty is feeling dumb for dropping out so long ago. Cain is the equivalent of a 1 hit wonder. He needs to just sell his book and let the serious candidates have a chance.
  3. goldman paid back the bailout with interest years ago, was the first to return the money.
  4. I jumped a Silhoutte in Deland, it was lots of fun, the turns were very snappy. I ordered a a pulse as well because the low pack volume allows me to keep my same container longer. I get mine next week, hopefully the pulse will be just as fun.
  5. I would also like to add to the discourse. My mother is an oconogist and during my teen years I worked in her office helping patients going through chemo. I cannot recall how many times I saw this sick person rushing outside to throw up in the bushes, the bushes right outside the building would die so quickly because of all the vomit and chemicals in it. Being in Texas there was no medical marijuana, but patients would still find a way. The ones I saw that came in for chemo after smoking had such a dramatic change for the better. Not only in their ability to control nausea and work on their appetite, but also in their general demeanor. I have noticed with things like cancer, how your outlook is plays a huge role in their recovery, and the people that had smoked were generally more jovial and in better spirits. All these patients were either senior citizens or close to that age. Fast forward a few years, one of my best friends comes down with testicular cancer, mid twenties healthy guy. He decides from day one that he will incorporate marijuana in his treatment, his doctors were stunned about how much weight he was able to keep on during the rounds of chemo, he needed so much chemo and surgery because it was pretty late stage stuff. He credit the weed with giving him the ability to fight for longer periods of time. I remember visiting him at MD Anderson and we would walk down to the park with his chemo machine in tow and he would just sit down and light up, when a cop came by he would simply ask the cop if he really wanted to be the guy arresting the cancer patient actively being pumped with chemo. He had his last surgery this summer, he is in remission and as soon as he is well enough to do it, we are planning on going on a skydive together. So to say that marijuana doesn't have medical benefits is simply wrong. But at the same time, it should also be legal for recreational use. It would save the government (both state, federal and local) untold amount of money from prosecuting and jailing offenders and would create a new legal industry in the production and commercialization of the drug.
  6. These women are about the same size as my wife, *holds hand up to chin to show heights* oh god I just herman cain'ed them all.
  7. I think if we look back to the point of the original post, it was about the guy on Maher accidentally saying 30,000 feet instead of 13,000 feet, a pretty reasonable mistake. We did some research, found other videos of him reading excerpts from his book, a literary piece of work, which had the correct height and gave us enough information to tell he was doing AFF level 1, plus some shots from the said dive. I must also add, when you have a forum where an author is reading passages directly from their book, it always tends to sound smug, you are reading your book aloud, its kind of hard to do that action humbly, its like saying you have a 12 inch dick in a humble manor, it just ain't gonna happen. The main question of if he was lying on the Maher show was resolved, he got enough right in the book to explain his situation and point, especially when it was a story about race and culture not skydiving.
  8. not to mention dever has a wind tunnel, that's not too bad/
  9. I like to listen to podcasts of NPR or books on tape. does that count as music?
  10. Also, coming from Boston, Ill be in Eloy the week of december 20-27 with 2 other guys from my DZ so another snowbird would be nice.
  11. from my understanding, and i could be wrong. Is if you want to go somewhere with the most jump-able days out of the year, go to Eloy.
  12. I recall there were plenty of polls in Texas of people saying they would prefer perry to stay as governor of the state of texas bu not to be president. Being in Austin I remember some of these polls or stories in the statesman.
  13. Does anyone else see parallels to the church sex scandals?
  14. Now you know how some of us felt about "Hope and Change". I agree that any politicians that simply retreats to talking points instead of discussing each issue on its face gets annoying and deserves an angry Samuel Jackson yelling at them, regardless of party.
  15. Cain was the biggest winner of Perry's monumental flub. It allowed all the analysis, of his lack of knowledge of anything beyond 9-9-9 to be swept under the rug. The thing with Perry, is that he had been branded as the guy who can't debate and seems asleep, or makes a major mistake, when it happened, it just magnified and solidified that point of view. It wouldn't have been nearly as damning if it was Newt or Huntsman.
  16. I disagree it does help, there are people who will always push the limits, and those few may never get the message from reading about someone elses misfortune. But there are those who maybe are fast learners, progress quickly but are not fully aware of their decisions, and the extra information gives them pause as to what their choices should be on canopies or flight choices.
  17. I will say, being half white, half black. There is a subtext of racism in society, just as almost any woman will say there is a subtle subtext of sexism. Many women deal with it on a daily basis and its so minor and pervasive that it barely gets a rise from people. The way I look it at. is where is the overall arc, and the trends moving, and the history. IT has been less than a century since women and even less time since blacks were given full rights (votings rights etc) Just because the rights have been given, it takes many decades and generations for those legacies to be fully erased. Women were usually not fully allowed in universities and the workplace in this country, its part of why decades after admittance there are so few in top leadership positions in terms of what their makeup is in society. I tend to look at things with a long term view, I see things getting far better for both groups and racism subsiding dramatically and while things like racism will never get to zero like sexism, xenophobia, homophobia and other fears of people that are different. The reality is things are far better and moving in the right direction. We have a half black president, the top(former) golfer in the world is black. 35 years ago when my black father and white mother were married, they often had to live their lives secretly in a public sphere, today they can go and do anything together without the public batting an eye. Today when I go to the mall with my nephew who is white as can be, no one thinks twice that I am taking a child. Although I must say, being half white half black, I can often appear arab in appearance, and then all bets are off especially in an airport, which is why I usually try to dress and appear more black. (I basically look like the background brown people, if I'm in india i'm indian. If i'm in brazil i'm braziliian, etc) So while racism does still exist, even in my short lifetime its decreased and the trend is that there is less racism and less denial of rights and opportunities for those of no Caucasian background.
  18. beyond these women accusing Cain, the reality is he is a one trick pony. His only response to ANYTHING is 9-9-9. In a previous debate with Newt Gingrich when he was asked specific questions about health care he couldn't answer and cutely said "ill let newt go first" When asked about what we should do about italy the answer was 9-9-9. When asked about making the markets more equitably it was 9-9-9. His knowledge of foreign policy makes Sarah Palin look like Henry Kissinger. This is how I felt by the end of the debate last night. http://imgur.com/GRovO
  19. This is how i felt watching Herman Cain in that debate http://imgur.com/GRovO
  20. a 4T reduction will never happen in our current political system. putting out 10 year plans makes minimal cuts to look enormous and put a large number on it. Its not even straight cuts, its tiny cuts in years 1-3 and big cuts later with no way to force them Its like NFL contracts, you pay a little in the front end, huge base salaries in the last year to make the contract look inflated, then they get cut in the last year or forced to renegotiate. Its the same shell game.
  21. I just don't see Herman Cain getting anywhere, he refuses to have documents released that would corroborate a story, and his press conference was horrendous. Watching the debate tonight, his only answer was 9-9-9. He is proving to be a 1 trick pony. I think Mitt is the guy in terms of economic policy.
