  1. If you want to be cost effective then spending a little time in the tunnel will help. It can as has been said remove some of the learning to skydive by skydiving as was said before, but if you get used to flying your body, you might actually get to look around on your jumps and enjoy them because you are not 100% focused on body-flight. I am a proponent of using the tunnel, you are less likely to fail levels on AFF which makes you happier because you are progressing, and saves money. Go do AFF level 1 then hit the tunnel for a few minutes before doing level 2, then you can get that first jump experience then you get the enhanced learning from the tunnel.
  2. can we extend the fat tax argument to the tunnel. How about we weigh everyone and charge per pound multiplied by wind speed. So a fat guy flying on his belly might be the same cost per minute as a little girl doing head down. Its obvious that people are not square pegs and each person may require more or less work than another and cause more wear and tear on equipment than others. I'm sure TI's have had tandem students who took alot more work than average students but had nothing to do with weight. All jobs that have heavy customer service aspect have fluid amounts of work per customer. How you segment these populations and service them in terms of pricing is up to the DZ in this case to determine what makes the most financial sense while keeping customers happy. Also as with the OP there comes a safety level when someones weight or lack of mobility becomes an injury concern. I believe an easy solution is to just hold firm to a max weight which you will not take a tandem customer and everything else is the same price.' I do believe there is a difference in telling them they are too fat or heavy to jump vs saying they are too black or chinese or too gay to jump. Weight and fitness level have a definite effect on safety while those other things do not.
  3. tanning salon vs beach. but like that lady in the news, I'm too tan.
  4. So going back to the OP, one thing to think about, if you're a little bigger and had some dexterity problems, landing solo in perfect conditions might be easier, but since you have some physical limitations that may decrease your ability to run out a landing or recover. So bottom line, the better shape and health you are in, will only be a positive for skydiving. Secondly, you don't want to land in water, its really not that great. Being over water its tough to gauge height because the water is so uniform, (also the same over alot of sand like in a desert.) Once you get in the water, you either have to disconnect your rig, or swim out of it, not getting caught on lines or coming up for air under the fabric, then either leave your thousands of dollars worth of gear behind as you swim to safety or attempt to pull it ashore, and now your nice 220 SQ ft canopy is completely filled with water and weighs 5 times as much. Once you get out of the water, you have possible electronics, or altimeters that could be water damaged, and you probably are not going to get another jump in that day on your gear. Or you can work to learn how to land better so you can land on terra firma and be on the next load with your friends.
  5. I explain to them I'm going to go have fun and call me if they get bored doing needlepoint.
  6. Yeah okay, you are right. It just came to my mind because it's very easy to spend 10000 bucks in the tunnel in a very short period of time - on the other hand, cranking out 1000 jumps in the sky would take an average jumper about 4 years (and me at least 8 ) I probably should stop thinking of the tunnel as only a "workhorse" to aquire skills and believing the real fun only takes place in the sky and get to the attitude that building up 10hrs tunneltime over the years is okay, too. And remember to have fun, try not to look at it as HD is the only goal, every orientation has so much that is fun about, tunnel or sky, you should also have fun.
  7. Eddie is a good friend of mine, he suffers from Amnesia where each week he forgets what happened the one before. That is why he is stuck doing his FJC at different locations and has no memory of the previous jumps. Give him a break guys.
  8. 20 Minutes of Tunnel time is nice early on, really helps you pass your jumps which in the end saves you money. I paid for a packing class, but you can also find a packer willing to teach you and negotiate something on the side.
  9. You killed Bill Murray! and I'll give you a twinkie anytime.
  10. Don't feel bad if they put you on the net to start. You can learn alot by removing the vertical component of flying. Listen to your instructors, have fun and thongs and the tunnel are always a great idea.
  11. I got a big Flavor Flav style Alti around my neck.
  12. I am in the both camp. I like the extra redundancy of having an analog and digi provide.
  13. We do know, she was born with only male genitalia. Its pretty well documented, unless you believe she is some kind of secret hermafradite even though her birth certificate says otherwise.
  14. There are too many variables in this. For example you can carry losses over, which means someone who had losses in a prior year wouldn't be able to carry them over to reduce their taxable income since it would bring them below the buffet rule threshold. More importantly, think about the municipal bond market. In the US the vast majority of municipal bonds are given tax free status, so any income earned is not considered taxable. Many people in high tax brackets find it beneficial to buy these bonds. If there is no advantage to purchasing these bonds municipalities will have higher borrowing costs which means that these costs will just be passed on to the local tax payers. I just think all the unintended consequences and once these get factored in its just going to be watered down.
  15. just following up on what someone said before. If you start taking hormones before puberty the change turns out far better than later. You see more and more younger kids starting the transition which makes it far easier for them to transition. I think Kim Petras was the youngest person to start the hormone replacement treatments, which she started at 12 years old. She is some german pop star. Here are pics. http://kimpetras.tv/photos/
  16. My friend has the charcoal, saw it today, it looked nice. I have the matte white with dark visor, so just don't copy my stormtrooper look and were cool. The fogging is not an issue with me as long as I wait until the door is open before closing the visor and opening it up under canopy.
  17. Is Classic homosexuality what they did in the greek times?
  18. IT would seem the DZ is as I said before trying to send a message to the community of smoking skydivers to keep it off their DZ. Which given the current legal status makes sense. It is also a message because they could have easily handled the situation quietly if it were just these individuals, it seems they are trying to send a message and create a "paper trail" to provide extra cover. All things seem acceptable, its not like they are giving jumpers drug tests before jumping, that would be a different story. IF you want to smoke and your DZ frowns on pot on their property, be polite and take it elsewhere. Potheads are supposed to be known for being agreeable. Go smoke elsewhere, come back and continue life. ALSO Based on information given, 2 people were given bans but more than 2 were reported smoking. Obviously not having equal treatment among all sticks out. More details would help, were others employees, etc?
  19. Seems pretty stiff, seems like the club is either trying to send a message or toe the line. If you were going to actually place a limit based in impairment you might adopt the same rules as the FAA or other aeronautic boards have for piloting a plane and drinking. I think they have something like 8-12 hours since your last drink. It would seem about the same would be fine for smoking.
