  1. I have a question regarding packing. sorry to hijack the thread. I am getting some new gear but my DZ is closed, I will be going on a couple jump vacations and was thinking that before then I would practice packing by packing then manually unpacking and repacking my rig a few times. Anyone see any harm in that? I just want to increase my speed in packing so i'm not relying on packers at DZ's but cutting down the 30 minutes it currently takes me so I can get on more loads.
  2. I quit smoking pot and realized I had alot more free time and money. In my new "clarity" I decided to try jumping.
  3. New Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream flavor Herman Cain's HarrasMINT choclate chip contains mint choclate chip ice cream with black walnuts forced into marshmallows covered in white chocolate and denial. special price 9.99
  4. I just don't see anyone's reaction time quick enough to have any probability of success at this, at least to where practicing on the ground would improve it. Go outside and try and catch a hummingbird or dragonfly. plus what stage of training would you do this at? Between AFF and A license? it seems like sensory overload for a new jumper.
  5. Its so strange to see little kids doing a tandem. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5f6EgWiU_w
  6. what you can't see is the person with the camera blowing to cause him to spin, much like a pinwheel, this is a common ploy instructors pull on their students to cause them to fail jumps and thus pay more money. Watch out for it.
  7. I find this thread sexist, why are we not talking about womens rights?
  8. I know Texas Skydiving center takes tandems as young as 16. I was there making a jump and a girl on her 16th birthday was making a tandem jump. https://www.texasskydiving.com/
  9. I'm dark skinned of indeterminate origin when you look at me. ( I am half black half white) I'm sure If i were walking around with a rig in the airport i'd face some extra screening, Then I can try to explain how the AAD is an exploding knife.
  10. The 3 of your comics I am looking forward to the most. 1. 1st Solo 2. Hop n Pop from 3500 3. Jumping your own pack job (our DZ makes you jump your own packjob before you get your A- license it could be different at yours) keep em coming they are great.
  11. I ended up going with a Pulse 190 as a main, I weigh 150, so about 170 out the door. I liked the pulse because it packs small, so it packs the same volume as a saber2 170, so my container will have many years of use in it. The pulse is also a nice stress free opening canopy, short snivel, opens on heading.
  12. As I said, I'm a new jumper, it was my first day at a new DZ, I really don't know what his instructors there have told him and what policies they have in place, I only know my DZ which tends to be very by the book. My reason for the post was seeing if what I experienced is common and I just have a stick up my ass or if this as something that others would consider an issue. Looking back sure there are things I could have done differently, I was just seeing what the general community online thought of such a behavior. my subject line was probably more bold than it should have been, but a good subject line tends to grab readers.
  13. No, that one was in Florida, and at the moment my main DZ that I really like is Skydive New England. I'm up in the North East for school, but will be back in the Austin area in may, I will then be auditioning DZ down there there, Although I will be back in Austin over the week for new years and will probably head to San Marcos to make a few jumps that week.
  14. I personally love the tunnel, and that is my home tunnel. If you go on their website, sometimes they have deals for time. And if you are ever planning on going and need some people to space out some time ill come fly with you. In terms of doing it before AFF, I don't think it can hurt. It wouldn't be bad, they can help you get a solid arch, stable turns, and a solid belly foundation, it will probably help you get through AFF with less repeat jumps, but in the end, jumping is the best thing. (although I am quite partial to the tunnel)
  15. I wanted to say, when I said, I thought Sangi, I meant no disrespect, just that, I am extremely new jumper and new to this forum, the sangi situation was pretty much going on right when I got here, I read all about it, and it did have an effect on me, as it should on all our new jumpers. I do hope he recovers, and gets in the air soon, and from what people have said he is coming around, and he should know people have learned from his mistakes beyond just him. I don't know enough to chastise anyone, so I'm not ripping on virgin-burner, also seems like a nice(funny) guy. I'm just saying for me, it was tough jumping with this guy, and I probably will not again. I ended up going to the tunnel and getting some coaching in there. (plus it was very windy so I had no desire to jump in those winds)
  16. To be honest, while we were jumping I was thinking, Sangi!!!!
  17. The guy weighed the same as me, 150lbs. So an exit weigh WL of about 1.3 I was on a rental silhouette 190, had a great time with it. the rig was one he bought. Apparently the progression he was on was jump a rig 5 times in high wind, 5 times in low wind, 5 times in no wind, stick the landings, downsize. I didn't see his landing, it wasn't bad from what I saw but I can tell, landed in the landing area and was upright and fine. but I just can't believe that 60 jumps in you can progress from student 200+ canopy to a 135. Just haven't had enough experience to justify it. Also +1 to the guy saying at lower weight wing loading isn't the same, the air molecules don't shrink, as a little guy I can say that you just can't simply go with the wing loading number someone 60lbs heavier uses.
  18. At least i feel like I was jumping with a future corpse. I was visiting a DZ, my home DZ does everything by the books, very strict (which I like, it makes me feel safe) So i'm getting ready to do a 2way with a guy i met, I'm recently a new A license, so not planning anything crazy, this guy has between 50-75 jumps and has already downsized to a safire 135. I'm thinking ok, crazy but I don't have to deal with him under canopy, so its his own deal. Then in the plane I notice he has a gopro mounted on his helmet, and I'm just thinking to myself, geez 50 jumps and downsized from a 210 to a 135 and already mounting a camera. I sometimes feel like I am too much a stickler for the rules, but they are there for a reason, or even the suggestions (like how many jumps to mount a camera). And that fast downsizing, I am so happy I am going on a slow progression measured in hundreds of jumps and years not downsize each dozen jumps. Sorry if you read this man, but its true, you are definitely playing fast and loose, it was fun jumping with you and I'd like to keep doing it in the future, so take care of yourself.
  19. I have a professor, and when I told her I skydive, she instantly was upset with me and seemed to judge me poorly. I found out later in the semester in talking to her, that her son was in college, getting great grades about to get a great career, then went on a skydive, within a years he had dropped out, was living on the dropzone and living "the dream" he lived in eloy, on the farm, and then went to dubai, she has somewhat come to terms with it, but she is kinda resentful this activity took away his "desire" to be in the normal 9-5 grind. I told her he was just free. but yes, it is more addictive than crack and some of us end up "crack-whores" but its the best kind.
  20. here is my costume. just so that you know, i added a picture of what i normally look like.
  21. sterilize him!!!! use a deboner knife.
