+1 on the kitty quaaludes. I have over a dozen trips by car across the US, most with a cat, birds and kids. I never used a cage, though. A carrier on occasion (to transport from the car to hotel room). Mostly the cat has been allowed to "run" free in the car. Believe it or not, they get used to it rather quickly. I've never had one run amok, and they like settling in on a seat or a lap. No matter what way you choose to do this, make sure the cat has a harness (NOT A COLLAR), and never take the cat out of the carrier or open the door of the car OR HOTEL without a leash on. TMobile's coverage isn't as good, but when you have it, it's better.
