  1. I too did business with them and they were outstanding.. would not hesitate to do business with again. DS#727, DB Cooper #41, POPS #11065, SCR #13183, FA #2125, SCS #8306, HALO #309 SRA #5930
  2. Met a guy at the Boulder DZ, he was wearing a failed mini link around his neck (necklace) . The thread/nut gave way (link bent open) on opening, didn't notice till he was on the ground and the lines fell off the link... the few threads left on the link kept the lines from coming off while under load.... talk about cashing in on a lot of luck! as others have mentioned.. these are low cost maintenance items, is your life not worth $30 every 1000 jumps or even less? (thats 3 cents / jump) ;) DS#727, DB Cooper #41, POPS #11065, SCR #13183, FA #2125, SCS #8306, HALO #309 SRA #5930
  3. I wont go out of my way to badmouth a place, but I will answer questions honestly. DS#727, DB Cooper #41, POPS #11065, SCR #13183, FA #2125, SCS #8306, HALO #309 SRA #5930
  4. my first rig was the original Javelin, it was a no-brainer for me to go with the upgraded Odyssey. In my experience, I notice the choice of new rigs with new jumpers tends to follow what is offered in the rental gear. those that have other rigs that I've talked to actually did some shopping/asking around and selected based upon others input and sometimes price point. to do it all over again, I'd be looking hard at the Vector. The people at UPT seem to be putting a lot of thought into making things better/safer. DS#727, DB Cooper #41, POPS #11065, SCR #13183, FA #2125, SCS #8306, HALO #309 SRA #5930
  5. replace them with slinks (soft links), they/re stronger DS#727, DB Cooper #41, POPS #11065, SCR #13183, FA #2125, SCS #8306, HALO #309 SRA #5930
  6. this reminds me of a low pass we did for some H&P's... guy was spotting and we were a bit further south of the normal path.. so he leaned out a bit too far to see back under the airplane... and out he fell.. it was a bit comical. DS#727, DB Cooper #41, POPS #11065, SCR #13183, FA #2125, SCS #8306, HALO #309 SRA #5930
  7. that was a pretty cool addition to balloon jumps! DS#727, DB Cooper #41, POPS #11065, SCR #13183, FA #2125, SCS #8306, HALO #309 SRA #5930
  8. saw the thread title and said, 'hey, that would be great idea'. but you already did it..lol still cool.. thats pretty high compared to the ballon jumps i've seen.. would help pull off a few points that way. DS#727, DB Cooper #41, POPS #11065, SCR #13183, FA #2125, SCS #8306, HALO #309 SRA #5930
  9. They're fun. Much like a BASE jump (I'm guessing); no forward momentum to speak of. You jump off or let go of the basket and let gravity do the rest. Except for the use of the burners, its pretty quiet, till you hit terminal velocity, and that is another cool thing, you hear yourself pick up speed by listening to the air. I hope to put some more jumps together this spring. DS#727, DB Cooper #41, POPS #11065, SCR #13183, FA #2125, SCS #8306, HALO #309 SRA #5930
  10. along similar lines, of why I bought a Cypres.. I had bought a Argus, but the way Karel and/or Aviacom was handling things lately helped me lose confidence. I was able to cancel the order and go with Cypres. The more I've read since my ordeal, the more comfort I have for having made the choice when I did. DS#727, DB Cooper #41, POPS #11065, SCR #13183, FA #2125, SCS #8306, HALO #309 SRA #5930
  11. Tweaked my back (sore) from a "check, check" during a PC in tow. I was checking right when the PC did its thing and deployment started. Lower leg pain from a no flare landing. All I remember is coming into land, getting ready to flare, and then WHAM, i was on the ground. Dont know what or why (well experienced at the time). Funny (~) thing is, my friend landed next to me and asked if he could have my jump tickets (forget asking if i was ok, or anything along those lines) DS#727, DB Cooper #41, POPS #11065, SCR #13183, FA #2125, SCS #8306, HALO #309 SRA #5930
  12. I got the 138!!! (well, a verbal acknowledgement that it's mine for our agreed upon price.. now just work out the meet/greet)
  13. this has been asked ad nauseum. goto the website for your AAD mfg, get the x-ray card goto the USPA website and get the letter for the TSA put your rig inside another bag if you can, don't advertise you have a rig, be nice. you will have no problem. DS#727, DB Cooper #41, POPS #11065, SCR #13183, FA #2125, SCS #8306, HALO #309 SRA #5930
  14. thanks, I might need those, I might not I found a local machine and secured a deal for it, but am 2nd in line. If it doesn't sell tonight, I will get a nice deal. DS#727, DB Cooper #41, POPS #11065, SCR #13183, FA #2125, SCS #8306, HALO #309 SRA #5930
  15. whats the price range on a 138 (w/table) ? DS#727, DB Cooper #41, POPS #11065, SCR #13183, FA #2125, SCS #8306, HALO #309 SRA #5930
  16. that about sums it up for me. lots of people fail to understand that you're free to do business where you like. Don't like the staff? policies? prices? Go somewhere else. No one is forcing you to patronize any establishment. vote with your feet and/or wallet ;) DS#727, DB Cooper #41, POPS #11065, SCR #13183, FA #2125, SCS #8306, HALO #309 SRA #5930
  17. sigh, it's not me, but I'm probably in the top 5 DS#727, DB Cooper #41, POPS #11065, SCR #13183, FA #2125, SCS #8306, HALO #309 SRA #5930
  18. she graced us with her presence this past weekend for a tunnel boogie @ Skyventure CO :) DS#727, DB Cooper #41, POPS #11065, SCR #13183, FA #2125, SCS #8306, HALO #309 SRA #5930
  19. I personally wouldn't waste may time with a Pfaff 130. If you are looking at a Pfaff get a 138 or 238. Overall a better machine. 130's are super old, aren't really around anymore and is more of a home machine than an industrial one. I am not saying that it can't do a lot if not all of the light work that is around. A 138 or 238 is much better equipped to do it. thanks Jim, thats some handy info... I've already got a line on a local one :) DS#727, DB Cooper #41, POPS #11065, SCR #13183, FA #2125, SCS #8306, HALO #309 SRA #5930
  20. good to see some sewing machine threads.. I'm shopping for one myself... the 20U is on my list, maybe a pfaff 130 (?) if I can find a decent one.. of course, they need to be local.. hate to pay shipping on a decent machine w/table DS#727, DB Cooper #41, POPS #11065, SCR #13183, FA #2125, SCS #8306, HALO #309 SRA #5930
  21. I 'grew up' under the watchfull eye of some great people at Skydance back in the early 90's. Seemed every weekend Dan O'Brien was putting together some kind of fun jump. He gave back a lot to the DZ, made it fun.. learned a lot from the likes of him, Ray, Bungie and countless others. Thats kind of missing now days, well, where I am. but I digress. I've taken a personal vow to help try and put more fun back into skydiving this year, work with the newbies...give back, etc.. :) DS#727, DB Cooper #41, POPS #11065, SCR #13183, FA #2125, SCS #8306, HALO #309 SRA #5930
