  3. hmmm, now I got more things to weigh. I was going to get a Hero.. but the snag factor was my biggest "issue" the contour and drift are lower profile and several other pro/con.. anyone have a link to download raw / uncompressed footage to compare what I would more than likely see @ home (?) 5. true, but we're talkin a newbie, who is asking here of all places. best thing to do is to get a briefing from someone who knows at his/her dz. we just recently had a couple close calls by some fairly low experience jumpers "tracking" up/down the jump run.... REALLY close calls throw in a mix of various flight types (ff, belly, etc..) which results in different fall rates, back sliding, not giving adequate separation.. it can get messy. We have been addressing the issue here, Before we even get in the plane, the exit order has been determined by number of people, type of dive and pull height. For mixed loads, the call has been to not track up/down the jump run. its been helping if you're running a single load exit/big way.. well, thats all different. 6. How about ... "never track parallel to jump run". this pre plan plan the dive, dive the plan (stolen from my scuba side) ;) DS#727, DB Cooper #41, POPS #11065, SCR #13183, FA #2125, SCS #8306, HALO #309 SRA #5930
  7. travel somewhere and take a class? jump with who you got, work on your flying DS#727, DB Cooper #41, POPS #11065, SCR #13183, FA #2125, SCS #8306, HALO #309 SRA #5930

  10. I like the ability to see what new classifieds have been posted on (today) and the previous day. when there gets to be a lot of traffic on any given day and you check it more than 1x / day, it would be nice if the listings could be changed from alphabetical to time posted. thanks DS#727, DB Cooper #41, POPS #11065, SCR #13183, FA #2125, SCS #8306, HALO #309 SRA #5930
  11. I like the idea, but I would weigh many factors before signing up. location, location, location weather aircraft dz popularity if the planes aren't going up, well then neither are you! if all the dz had was a 182 ~, thats a no-go do you have to ride a bus back from the dz after every jump? how long is that ride? will you spend 1/2 the day on that bus? will you go to the dz and get in a decent # of jumps per day? lots of factors, but again, a good idea/opportunity I would love to entertain! I typically get a Colorado Pass (ski/snowboard, season pass for several resorts).. and if you are serious about going you can really add up the savings, making it a no-brainer. where you go also plays a factor here, A-basin used to be one of those places where you could spend all day on the lift if you rode to the bottom of the mountain.. they changed that this year with a new hi-speed quad :) Of course, I didn't get one this year and the snow has been epic! 15. 10 jump 20 pack 30 goto 10 run Hop-n-pop is about the quickest / cheapest way (depending on your dz) DS#727, DB Cooper #41, POPS #11065, SCR #13183, FA #2125, SCS #8306, HALO #309 SRA #5930
  16. It's the way I started all those years ago.... nothing to be ashamed of there are still some of us old timers, that flat pack. (I now pro pack) some canopies can still be packed this way, I know that PD makes comment to which ones lend themselves to this and some not. FWIW: I never had any sort of malfunction flat packing. oh, and they were always F111, I never flat packed a ZP DS#727, DB Cooper #41, POPS #11065, SCR #13183, FA #2125, SCS #8306, HALO #309 SRA #5930
  17. dang, not sure what to do, so many different ways people are doing this.. not quite 100% on what I want to do now.. I do know the reserve flap devices are out. anyone with any hard info on one way vs another, speak up please :) DS#727, DB Cooper #41, POPS #11065, SCR #13183, FA #2125, SCS #8306, HALO #309 SRA #5930
  18. I think posting this thread put it into the world of skydivers, and JohnRich was kind enough to get us the serial number. I think it's public enough, and if the buyer didn't see the rig in the stolen gear section of this website, and nobody has stepped forward to claim it as their own (just yet), I think the buyer is in the clear in terms of resale. If it does turn out to be stolen, I think the buyer should be willing to return it to the rightful owner for just the cost of his expenses ($50 + time to pick it + plus time and costs to ship), so no more than $100. But if it's not posted online as stolen, and nobody claims it before the seller can pass it on for a profit, then I think he's in the clear from an ethics standpoint. There are a variety of ways that a container could come into the hands of a non-jumper. It might have been left behind after a move, or come out of an unpaid storage unit. If it was a complete rig, I'd be more suspicious, but individual components are easier to understand as 'misplaced'. Once you get past the point of needing to sell your rig to buy a another, it easy to forget all about thaty huge J1 in your closet when you have a sweet NJ or TNJ to jump every weekend. I'll throw this into the mix....what if the real owner didn't know it was stolen? and the perp posted it on-line for sale before its theft was discovered? I last saw my rig on Sunday when I put it in the closet. It should still be there, but I don't go checking it everyday and there is no cause to assume that it's not there (obvious signs of a B&E) just a few things to think about. that said, if I got that deal, and it was discovered that it was stolen, I'd like to recoup my money but more importntly, I would also do what it took to get the perp locked up for awhile. (theft of my rig here in CO would amount to a Class 4 Felony) DS#727, DB Cooper #41, POPS #11065, SCR #13183, FA #2125, SCS #8306, HALO #309 SRA #5930

  20. This is one part I'd like to know more about, if anybody has anything. read the post above yours by Riggerpaul. It pretty much sums it all up. yep.. 105.43 (c) should change the "must" to "should" or something along those lines.. 105.43 is pretty much a blanket reg for skydiving operations, so we're stuck with it. I feel for genereral skydiving, it should be changed, as an AAD is not mandatory, ecept for Tandem and Students (~). So what if it's not "in-service", outside of everyone wanting to sue everyone else around here, the aad could not even be installed and someone could die, heck, even if it was installed, there is no quarantee and you wouldn't die anyway. kind of a confusing situation, probably in out best interest, protecting us from ourselves kinda thing (?) 21. ok, I just spent about an hour looking for a thread I read yesterday, and I can't find the damn thing. I was looking at getting a Sky Tie as I had read of the issues of using the bungie/ball type (and the 'recent' malfunction).. the more I read, the less I wanted something on my reserve flap. In one of the threads, someone posted 3 pictures of slider locks/tabs on their front risers (black blocks on grey risers) these looked the cleanest i've seen of all the types I've seen. I've seen the Brian Germain type (zigzag'd cord(~)) but those were not them, the closest I've seen are the ones shown at ChutingStar http://www.chutingstar.com/expertadvice_en/canopies/98-slider-keeper-without-attachment.html we could open the discussion up to all the slider lock types, see what everyone thinks (and this site has oppinions that are as differing as the universe is big!) but I was hoping for the grey riser pics and more information on those.
