  1. Last summer I took an older HD Hero scuba diving in the Bahamas. Down to about 30 feet the footage was fine, after that everything blended into aquamarine and needed a red filter badly. I also got fogging in the case after roughly an hour. I would recommend a red filter and anti-fogging inserts.
  2. Would that promote stability?
  3. They do their best (and cheapest) flying on Tuesdays
  4. I've looked at that, but think I might be happier long term with something zero porosity, maybe a Storm, Spectre, or Omni. I'll keep an eye on how the Epicene holds up.
  5. I'll call RI as soon as I get a chance but was wondering if anyone here had put a 170 7 cell into a Voodoo Curv VC3, and if so what type. I had a nine cell 150 in there with a little room to spare, but downsized for canopy flight and want to upsize for wingsuit jumps without putting a Pulse in my rig.
  6. Get this thing going before Citizens For Sober Skies tries to rally the locals and shut you down. I too vote for the second one.
  7. I just bought and started jumping a Crossfire2 in Eloy two weeks ago, not because I want to but because as soon as I do something like that something newer/better comes out and makes what I paid for obsolete. The Crossfire3 release should happen any minute now. You're welcome everybody.
  8. Solos seem to be the issue here, but it brings up something else that has been a topic of discussion for me when jumping in groups: Do you prearrange that if someone lands out that the group stays together, or at least handles accounting for the others in the group? Twice last week in Eloy a long spot (my fault, or the fault of the person I was jumping with) led to out landings on two way jumps. The first time we landed out together (having discussed it prior) and were picked up by Brian. The second time I couldn't make it back but the guy I was jumping with did. I don't think he realized I landed out and was already manifesting for the next load when I walked in to the parking area. I ended up walking back as no one noticed (I landed a ways North of the swoop pond) and had no major issues, but can only imagine how that could have gone had I screwed up the landing. This was my first day jumping a new canopy, and my first out landing was my first jump on the new canopy, complete with downwind desert slide.

Lost Viso II (black) on blue elastic wrist mount with more than 215 unlogged jumps. Reward if returned, no questions asked
  10. Especially at night as they have red strobes on the top that flash on each tower simultaneously. Parts of southern Minnesota look like a rave at night.
  11. Both N92DV and its predecessor (N500MS) were air ambulance airplanes that retired from the company I work for when those contracts became Pilatus PC12s. I believe 500MS was geared up and totaled or sold. We used to call that airplane Five Hundred Multiple Sclerosis because it had autopilot issues
  12. BigMike, that King Air in the background is now at Mile Hi in Longmont, but I spent several years doing air ambulance flying in it in Arizona. My embarrassing story: I waited anxiously until the proper number to start jumping a camera. I borrowed a friends camera a few times and later saved up reward points to get a GoPro which I finally attached to my helmet several years ago on a trip to Arizona. The first time I used it was with a guy who was trying to learn to sit and a load organizer put us together as I was by myself and he wanted someone to jump with and to get video to take back home to show the family. We briefed the jump and everything went fairly well but later I discovered that I had bumped the door rail on exit turning the camera off and then turned it back on upon landing without realizing it. So the footage of my first jump with a camera was as follows: 1. 2 minutes of Otter climbing/people verifying the camera was on and half of our exit 2. A minute of me picking up my canopy and talking to the guy post jump 3. 28 minutes of everyone (except me) realizing the camera was on as the helmet hung on the rig rack with countless people dancing in front of it and or dry humping my helmet and giggling I realized what had happened about the time the guy I was jumping with tried to copy it to his laptop to show his wife when he got home
  13. I don't want to spend jump money on a protractor (wasted too much on a fancy compass for drawing perfect circles) but still want to do proper math. Do you know of any good protracting apps that work without data at altitude?
  14. I wear contact lenses and tried everything from Liquid Player sunglasses with the goggle insert to Sorz goggles when I jumped an open face. I bought a Cookie G3 and haven't looked back, lost a contact, or had blurred vision since.
  15. If you're bored in Denver, and headed toward Nebraska I have some bad news for you
  16. I'll be jumping all day (and night when the loads are running) starting on Tuesday the 24th. I have a friend doing some work stuff in Marana, he will be up there every chance he gets and two other guys coming down for either a long weekend or a full week. If you can make weekdays we could do two way stuff and get in some bigger stuff on the weekend. I'll pm a cell number next week before I head down there. Remi, Are you doing load organizing on the weekends? I think we actually met last year and discussed the Curv while waiting for the wind to quit. Look forward to seeing you again.
  17. Hey all, I'm heading to Eloy for a couple weeks later this month. A group of friends will also be coming down sporadically and I may be extending my trip. I would love the opportunity to meet and jump with some dz.commers during the trip. I am working on freeflying (specifically sit right now) and will bring a Phantom3 which I absolutely stink at flying. I am staying in the bunkhouse and have transportation so if anyone would like a ride to or from Phoenix or Mesa during that time just reply or send a PM and I'll be happy to help out if possible.
  18. If one canopy can carry more weight at a lower speed or more weight at the same speed without stalling, that canopy has a better flare. Where that flare occurs in the toggle stroke is subjective but irrelevant to how much lift an airfoil can produce at a given speed.
  19. The term gay marriage needs to go away and be replaced with same sex marriage. Homosexuals can get married in every state in the US. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-YCdcnf_P8
  20. Left engine appears to be feathered (most likely the result of an automatic system at that altitude) so that's probably a decent guess.
  21. If the pilot rumor mill is correct, the aircraft was still listed as being owned by Cirrus of Duluth, MN and was being delivered to a new customer. The other rumor was that a pump failed so the pilot couldn't transfer gas from the ferry tank to the main tank. I've only done one ferry flight in my lifetime (one too many) but all of the setups I have seen include a manual hand pump to use as a backup.
  22. My canopy rarely turns on opening any more but if it does it seems to be random. I psycho pack and do nothing to the nose other than aligning the cells during the normal flake, and then pull them all straight and even again when the canopy is on the ground waiting for me to pull the tail around and prepare for the roll. I have alternated which side I use for the first locking stow for the bag but didn't notice any difference. I use large rubber bands and double stow the first two locking stows with about one and a half inches of bight. I can't say for sure if the canopy broke in, my packing technique is helping, or if the container change helped out but the minor issues I had at first seem to have cleared up. I hope that helps.
  23. Our dropzone has a cheap setup in open face helmets for CRW. It works flawlessly unless someone looks straight up and kills the signal.
