  1. I used to train Malaysian ab initio flight students as a flight instructor in Arizona, and then later a number of them flew right seat with me when the freight company I worked for sold out the right seat of the Metros I flew.
  2. My EMS work uniform is actually a jumpsuit, complete with NOMEX so that when I pile an airplane into the ground at high speed our corpses won't burn as badly. I would never wear that thing in public, with all of the patches, flags, and other crap I look like I beat and robbed a NASCAR driver.
  3. I used to drive one of those. It always amazed me how well VW Rabbit parts fit when I needed to replace something.

  5. The banana portion of this poll, coupled with new editing software inspired me to create the world's greatest skydiving video. Behold!: https://vimeo.com/86564990 The password is "skydiving", and the link might be NSFW
  6. I put a bunch of jumps on a Nitron 150 last summer loaded at just under 1.4 followed by a same size Stiletto. Prior to that I was on a Safire2. The Nitron openings reminded me a great deal of the Safire, soft and on heading. I psycho pack and am definitely a trash packer but had zero issues on two different borrowed Nitrons, always beautiful openings and a ton of flare. I ended up buying a Fusion 150 in anticipation of wingsuit flying, but wouldn't hesitate to jump a Nitron for any other jump. I realize that the Nitron is an elliptical canopy, but I don't think given its aspect ratio and flight characteristics that the gap between Fusion and Nitron is as great as the gap between a Fusion and other elliptical canopies like a Stiletto or Katana.
  7. I ended up spending the $15 for iMovie. I figure if I hate it that's the least expensive way to discover that I am incompatible with Apple, and given the similarities between iMovie and Final Cut Pro it should be a good indication of whether it's worth spending the money on that or finding a way to run Windows on bootcamp with Sony.
  8. Thanks for the replies so far. I don't have a license for Windows other than what is already in use in my house or I would bootcamp and install Sony. For those of you who have used iMovie is it a linear editor like Sony or more like Windows Movie Maker?
  9. I just inherited a MacBook Pro that is about four months old from a family member and am trying to figure out what to run for video software. In addition to never using Apple before I have never run any of their software. I like the Sony stuff but that isn't an option for Apple so I'm left with Adobe(not sure which suite or the cost), Final Cut Pro ($299), iMovie ($20), or something else I don't know about yet. The computer is the Core i7 model with 8gb of ram. I don't do professional video, just some editing for the dropzone for tandem or student videos. I'm open to any suggestions, especially from anyone running a similar setup.
  10. I'll be working in Roswell for two weeks (separated by a week) this month. My first string of shifts is day hours, but the following week I work nights and will have twelve hours (work rest permitting) to wander and do stuff. Are there any locals here who can recommend a place to jump? I can't get an answer from Hobbs which looks to be the closest, and I think Belen is a bit of a drive, although maybe worthwhile. I also have a speedwing I would love to fly somewhere nearby but zero luck locating anyone closer than Alamagordo. Even if there's nothing going on I would happy to buy a round or two for a fellow dz.commer if anyone wants to meet up.
  11. The last good run a Bronco had was OJ Simpson in 1994. I just can't wait for fifteen years to go by so I can tell my Seahawk fan friends to stop living in the past.
  12. The wires can be moved out of the way. Look at videos of these guys going back a couple of years, they all do the same pattern every time, except for the one who hit turbulence, LOL. That is probably because it the wind comes in the partly open end of the stadium and the POV cameras show that they do 180s across the north end, then carve in to landing and give themselves the whole field to deal with whatever might happen in a tight stadium. They seem pretty smart and totally pro at how their doing it. Grreat job, guys! Jan These guys were gracious enough to let me get on loads with them after the dropzone shut down and they were only running the 206 for demo practice last summer. Not only are the wires set up prior to the jump, but the wire systems and setups vary from network to network depending on who is broadcasting the game so there are at least three configurations requiring different patterns into the stadium. They are all very nice, very professional, experienced and fun folks to be around.
  13. Mine has better graphics. Fair enough. You have won this round and I tip my hat to you Sir.
  14. I have the same color Micro Raven in my rig and would be nervous had I not tested it twice in the previous season. It would seem my rigger and the one from Mile Hi in Longmont do good work. Now I'll think twice, or maybe four times, about borrowing gear.
  15. Just so an ignorant jerk like me isn't missing the big picture, we are talking about the brake lines not going through the grommets, right?!
  16. I almost wet myself watching Borat, then Bruno made me want to beat two hours out of Sacha Baron Cohen. More recently, This is The End was disappointing other than Danny McBrides tirades.
  17. I had two cutaways in two months (if you borrow a beat up old Stiletto, check the trim!) and both led to rides on Micro Raven 150 reserve canopies built in 2001. The openings were fast but not hard and on heading. I can only imagine that a newer R-max or PD should be better than what I experienced, but both of my rides followed sub-terminal deployment at higher altitudes with a RSL beating me to the reserve handle.
  18. Just skip to BASE jumping. It will be faster and there aren't all these crazy rules. Also, you should always base your gear choices purely on looks. That's how Jeb Corliss does it. Try to get sponsored by Tapout Clothing as quickly as possible. You're going to get laid so much.[/quote ] You didn't even share which cologne to bathe your wingsuit in prior to each jump. I recommend Ed Hardy.
  19. I do find it funny that above the article is a picture of Mile Hi Skydving's Cessna 206. Mile Hi has the fanciest urinals and toilets of any dropzone I have ever seen.
  20. That usually happens to me at wind tunnels.
  21. Walk up to the group and ask if you can destroy their dive by turning it into a zoo. It worked for me. If people recognize that you know your skill level, want to learn, are easy to get along with, and have a decent sense of humor they are much more likely to include you. It's not about being the coolest, the best thing about this sport is the fun you have screwing up, learning, and building good relationships with great people along the way.
  22. Even if I never quit using the vaporizer I have lowered my nicotine intake and eliminated the overwhelming majority of carcinogens and toxins from my intake. I agree that they're silly looking and really silly to think about, but not as silly as smoking. Side note for other folks using them, have you noticed a difference in lung capacity since switching?
