so what if someone hands him a half-eaten sandwich thinking it should be good enough. he shouldn't be picky. it's a little something called "dignity". there's no reason any person has to give all of that up in trade for a handout. for some, it's hard enough just asking. but hey, i'm a bleeding heart so i'm a little mushy around the edges... an example on the other side: i met a dude at the bottom of an exit ramp on I-10 as i was going to get some food. i cruised over to mickey d's, got myself and him some food, took it back, parked my car and ate lunch with him. he was very grateful for the meal. i asked his name and what his story was and it was a very nice conversation. more than anything, i think he appreciated the acknowledgement that he was a human being that had fallen on hard times and not one of condescension. it was a moment for me, that's for sure. yeah, there are some people that take advantage of it, but you know? there are some that really don't want to be there either and are swallowing their pride to even ask for shit. (in general) next time, take the time to look them in the eye as an equal human being and not down on them as some one who isn't worth the same salt as you. it really does make a difference, i think. oh, and i'm not directing all this at you or anyone else, just yacking about stuff that i think about sometimes.... take care, a
