  9. the quick summary: "there's magic in those mushrooms after all." the article: (http://www.medpagetoday.com/Psychiatry/GeneralPsychiatry/dh/3721) Psilocybin Viewed as Therapy or Research Tool By Michael Smith, MedPage Today Staff Writer Reviewed by Zalman S. Agus, MD; Emeritus Professor at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. July 12, 2006 --------------------------------- MedPage Today Action Points Advise patients who ask that psilocybin is a controlled substance under U.S. law and has serious risks when used as a drug of abuse; in this study a large proportion of participants had a strong or extreme fear response. Note, however, that under controlled conditions, the drug induced powerful mystical feelings that engendered long-term positive effects in terms of mood and sense of well-being. ------------------------------------ Review BALTIMORE, July 12 -- Forty years after the psychedelic drug culture proclaimed that psilocybin induces a profound mystical and spiritual experience, investigators at Johns Hopkins have agreed. There's magic in those mushrooms after all, researchers found in a double-blind trial that found the use of psilocybin can have a "substantial personal meaning and spiritual significance" even months later. In one of the first rigorous studies of hallucinogenic drugs in the past 40 years, the investigators found that 61% of participants taking the drug -- a serotonin-like derivative of the Psilocybe genus of mushrooms -- had a "full mystical experience," as measured on established psychological scales, according to Roland Griffiths, Ph.D., the study's principal investigator. Two-thirds of the 36 participants rated the psilocybin experience as either the single most meaningful experience or among the top five most meaningful experiences of their lives, Dr. Griffiths and colleagues reported in the online issue of Psychopharmacology. Also, the researchers found, 79% of participants reported moderately or greatly increased well-being or life satisfaction two months after taking the drug, compared with those given a placebo at the same test session. Most said their mood, attitudes and behaviors had improved. All of the positive experiences where statistically significant at the P

i'll second the suggestion to use airtrain from EWR. TONS cheaper than taking a cab. after leaving EWR, the 2nd stop is penn station. the W.... mmmmmmm. beautiful. if you end up in the area and want to warm up, you can check out the private park and the bar of the Hudson hotel on 58th st (between 8th and 9th ave). this is one of ian schrager's properties...very cool. i love this place. ntrprnr is spot on with his advice. you guys will have a ball. :)
  11. hey sweetie....go get some air. it reprioritizes everything. seriously. take care, arlo

...do this for someone you hardly know? an acquaintance? your best friend? your family? ============================= Limo Driver Gets a Kidney From Customer Reuters CHICAGO (July 9) - As tips go, Chicago limousine driver Abdul Faraj got a priceless one this week when one of his regular customers offered up a kidney, media reports said. Faraj and Minnesota businessman Dave Baker underwent transplant surgeries at Chicago's Northwestern Memorial Hospital. "He gave me part of his body. He saved my life," Faraj, a diabetes sufferer whose kidneys were failing despite a three-times-a-week dialysis regime, told area television stations. Baker has used Faraj, a native of Lebanon, as his driver on trips to Chicago for several years. Making small talk months ago, Baker learned of Faraj's poor health and struggle to find a kidney donor with a matching blood type. "At that time, he tells me, 'What's your blood type?' I tell him O-positive," Faraj said. "He said, 'I'm 0-positive. I'll give you one."' Baker is out of the hospital and expected to fully recover within weeks. "This was an opportunity to stop, slow down, take a look around and try to help someone," Baker told local television.
  13. dammit. and i was SOOO tickled with myself when i posted that, too. i guess i the bold, thunderous, "viva la france!" type message could hardly come across when i'm going on about winning the world teacup. beignets, anyone? yeah, rub it in. i miss my friends there already. but you already know you'll have a helluva time. guaran-fuckin-teed.
  14. à la demande des arlo le Français gagnera la tasse du monde dans la célébration de l'anniversaire des benji ! ! ce sera la plus grande fête d'anniversaire dans le monde ! ! EVER!!!!!!! (we'll be watching it in deland...)

  16. hey rick....give it up. who are the team members?? you.. bill? johnny?
  17. then maybe try this: 1 wingsuiter 1 belly flyer 1 freeflyer 1 CRW dog 1 video of that cluster. this is like a battle royale (sorta like the royale with cheese, only different) OREN!!! next new event: 4-way scrambles with a person from each discipline. bring it. (thanks for the idea, bolas!)
  18. i bet if you said you'd show up and do 4-way with wingsuits with 3 intact grips, the judges will say hell yeah.
  19. it gets a little more complex than that, believe it or not. haha!! tons of people can dive fast and hard, but being able to stop on a dime and complete AND HOLD the round...that's the trick. to do this, folks have been training with camera suits (wings) and such. the hardcore RW folks thinkthey are gonna win. the freeflyers think they will win on their heads. it's so sweet!! the coolest part of this whole thing is that (i think) a few skydivers kicked in the cash and said 'here. let's give back to the sport and make this shit fun!'. so there's no registration fee or any of that shit. it's just you go there, pay for your 4 jump tickets plus the money for your video guy and that's it. huge props to mike and patty woods for putting this thing into action. you can say what you want, but zhills definitely is one awesome dz. where else can you just show up and win $1000 and possibly $1200?
  20. Hi All, Just a last minute reminder of the 4 Way Speed Star Competition at Skydive City. This competition is all about SPEED. The fastest 4 way speed team will split a CASH prize of $1000. The overall fastest diver of the competition will walk away with $1000 in CASH. This is for ALL skydivers. Flat, Head Down, Video, CRW, Style…..DRESS FOR SUCCESS. You can wear any kind of suit you want. The judge doesn’t care if your 4 way star is flat, Head Down, or on its side. This is a 4 round competition with a different diver on each round The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 1st and will continue on the 2nd only if needed to complete all 4 rounds. The cost per person is 4 regular price jump tickets and $20. The CASH prizes for this is from Sponsors, not your wallet. Manifest will be open at 8AM so that you can get registered and do any other paperwork. There will be a briefing to go over the Rules and then it will start right away. We will have pool video, but some of them are competing (camera suits!), so if you have your own video person, bring ‘em. I have attached the Official Rules for this competition. Come over for FUN. Go home with CASH!
  21. bull sluice is the last rapid on section 3 just before the bridge. i've rafted section 4 a ton of times but never saw anyone shoot bull sluice without the help of a raft or kayak. usually the water level was too high or too low. the hydraulics on BS seem to take some unsuspecting soul once a year or so. i do miss the scenery up there. it's so beautiful. i lived about 45 minutes from there. i also agree with all regarding NOC, but it's been a few years now. the last time i was there a guy named arlo was our raft guide. what are the chances? whichever you choose, enjoy! should be loads of fun. take sunscreen.... p.s andrea, i think it's clayton GA...just north of long creek, SC. the chatooga is between the two towns and forms the GA/SC state line...
  22. i see bill is still jumping that blue jumpsuit and frap hat. when you see bill next, give him my love - if he still remembers me from SC when i started almost 9 yrs ago. bill's a wonderful man and has a kick ass chili recipe. ;) blues and big fattie congrats bill!!! arlo
  23. goddamnit. paul, thanks for posting the video. i was there in spirit. for barbs friends and family....my heart is with you. kate, mar, linda , lori, pam - it won't be the same. she truly was one of my inspirations and heroines in the sport. her strength...second to none. kliff, i'm so sorrry. i don't have the words. everyone, just love each other. with heavy heart but supporting barb on her new ventures....godspeed darlin. godspeed. a
  24. the reason i didn't add the cats was for the reason you stated - the injury earlier this year (). it's great to hear they've been training hard because they have an outstanding team. would love to see them in the mix!! more good teams at the top of the heap make for a much more exciting world meet. i'd rather chew my nails off into round 10 than see a shoe-in after round 6.... (still on track! )
