  1. You are using a different definition of a safe AAD then I am. I share your definition, if the device alone would specify how safe an AAD is. Other factors do come into play, which are a.o. how a company responds to issues in te field. In my opinion the Argus is saver then others at the moment. I won't go into the reasons why, there are other threads for that. What I am trying to say, you should realise "safe" is an opinion and calling others unsafe is an insulting opinion. 2. I take this as an insult, it's your opinion and nothing more. I in fact, think I'm saver with my Argus. Please refrain from insulting others. The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. If you're good at it and continue to jump, you'll see a lot of friends die...
  3. Most has been said already, but: 1) 200 jumps is an 100% increase of 100 jumps. And I still think 200 jumps is too little anyway. 2) Why jump camera if you know you can't video anything because you have no flying skills? The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. If you're good at it and continue to jump, you'll see a lot of friends die...
  4. This is not true. First IMHO the most dangerous part of a RSL with camerahelmet is entaglement with the freebag and/or bridle. The skyhook greatly reduces the change of this. In fact you get better odds with the skyhook, then without. Later the skyhook adds more safety then a RSL does. Since the RSL vs non-RSL with camerahelmet is a trade-off issue, the benefits no stack up on the skyhook side. Lastly somewhere on this forum, Bill Booth made some comments on this issue. You might want to read those. Edited to add: You can find them on this thread: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_threaded;post=1868065;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC; BTW a simple search on "skyhook camera" results in 6 pages of people asking almost exacly the same. sigma deployment

I've only done 4-5 jumps on the sigma yet, so still getting the feel for the primary... (it's winter season over here) Normally every other 5 jumps I go for the secondary The "golf bal" gets stuck on the housing, roting it, releases this. The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. If you're good at it and continue to jump, you'll see a lot of friends die...

    sigma deployment

I've had these on the primary too, haven't used the secondary yet on the sigma. They seem to be quite common over here and roting the ball solves it. 7. Because before it was mandatory, someone at my DZ died, because of failure to fire (well the part that she didn't pull anything also helped off course). Cypres was ok, turned on, voltage reading ok, less then 500 jumps, only battery was 3 years old. After this, the 2 year replacement became mandatory. The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. If you're good at it and continue to jump, you'll see a lot of friends die...
  8. At my DZ already 2 this year, of the repacks I attended (and I attended 4) The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. If you're good at it and continue to jump, you'll see a lot of friends die...
  9. I presume you have to present something so your boss can judge your presentations skills? Showing a video will not do that in any way. Also watching a 4 minute video without context is boring. The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. If you're good at it and continue to jump, you'll see a lot of friends die...
  10. Alone takes about 5 minutes... :) BTW Alot of people I coach for presentations, don't set up their intro properly. I ussually explain them INTRO (see below) fill it in and you already have an outline for your presentation INTRO Index (when are you gonna talk about what) Name (what is your name (and function)) Time (how long is it gonna take (The next 5 minutes...) Reason (Why should you listen to me?) Object (what am I gonna talk about) Use them in random order, and space them accordingly to your time (if you have a 1,5 hour presentation, make a proper index on a sheet (or something else), if you have a 5 minute presentation jus say it "I'll talk about this first and then this...". Reason is by far most the important and also the most forgotten. Tell the audience why they should listen, if you can't find a reason, don't give the presentation. 11. I just recieved the following reply from Aviacom: Only in the mirage cutter has to be replaced on short notice. Others have to be replaced for 30th june, or at first repack. Replacement is at no cost, as long as old cutter is send to us. First replacement are "reserved" for Mirage pending new cutters. 12. I know of 3 mainstream 2nd/ 3rd generations AAD's. (not counting the Mars as mainstream). 1) Argus mandatory field checks. 2) Cypres Mandatory factory checks. 3) Vigil, optional factory checks. Which AAD doesn't have calibration checks, outside the self test? The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. If you're good at it and continue to jump, you'll see a lot of friends die...
  13. Or you could assume that the cypres doesn't have a valid self test... If you assume this much, you can also assume the unit failed at the 8 years check, so it was unsafe to jump the previous months and it's self check didn't notice... All assumptions, all BS.... 14. In the Dutch system the court apearence would be easy (in fact it would never make it to court) "Your honor, these are the risks involved with teaching a student to use the secondairy drogue release..." done... 15. I just learned Icarus has a reserve, I didn't know that yet.. :D. The site is a bit boring, but extremly functional. Maybe move the manufactorers to a "manufactorer contact" page. I don't like the setup with folders etc. as a layout, but it is clear and functional. Maybe you should add a "new servicebulletins" page. I mised the Argus, manual can be found on their site: http://www.argus-aad.com/media/Downloads/Manual.pdf Out of curiousity, what manuals did you remove and for which reasons? (They have every right. since there are copyright laws, just curious of why someone would want that..) The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. If you're good at it and continue to jump, you'll see a lot of friends die...
  16. is the correct answer The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. If you're good at it and continue to jump, you'll see a lot of friends die...
  17. Uhm, I'd like to take you up on the statement standard 182 exit, I would recommend poised hanging, or diving exit, not a deliberate de-arched, grab and hug the student and make an hole in sky exit. The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. If you're good at it and continue to jump, you'll see a lot of friends die...
  18. I noticed I can't edit the message, else I would have removed the remark. As stated before it was ment as an illustration intended to state that with experience you'll notice a bad deployment, without the risk of checking with the method mentioned. Obviously I underestimated the effect such a remark even has on experienced jumper who should know beter, let alone students. (I expected more of even students) so if a mod is around, please remove that single remark. The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. If you're good at it and continue to jump, you'll see a lot of friends die...
  19. We rarly have them exit above 9k, this is standard practise over here (for all DZ's). Weather sometimes dicatates 7k, this is still a "normal" altitude. Video goes along until 8k, after that we ask them what they want. The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. If you're good at it and continue to jump, you'll see a lot of friends die...
  20. Is the correct answer. (only to add to directly answer your question: Your answer would be "No". The cypres does not decides at 750ft, but it's reading can be fooled) The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. If you're good at it and continue to jump, you'll see a lot of friends die...
  21. THIS was the thing that caught my eye. I'm only a new TM, but I was taught this was the "always success" recipe for a side spin. In fact just around drogue trow it looks just like that. The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. If you're good at it and continue to jump, you'll see a lot of friends die...
  22. I am sure a lot of more experienced jumpers occaisionaly do the same, it was ment as an illustration. The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. If you're good at it and continue to jump, you'll see a lot of friends die...
  23. For student rigs you may be correct. Equipment is not high-performance, so an uneven (=unstable) body position at opening is not a big deal. Also the student doesn't know yet how a good opening "feels". But when we are further into progression, checking deployment before line strech (and even some time after) is a truly bad idea. It could lead to spinning mals and even riser breaks. Checking over your shoulder, when you don't feel deployment initiation is a good idea. Personally when I have my pilot on my back or on my wing (camerasuit) I know almost instantly, so let's say it takes 2 seconds (rougly 350 feet). There have even been jumps I have not seen my canopy untill it fell behind me after landing. The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. If you're good at it and continue to jump, you'll see a lot of friends die...
  24. If you think RWS/UPT doesn't know what they do, stop jumping 3 ring release, handdeployed, hardhousings etc etc etc. It's just that with your credentials, most people would not take your serious if you made a comment on lack of knowledge on UPT/RWS side. The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. If you're good at it and continue to jump, you'll see a lot of friends die...
