  2. Yeah, but without subtitles, how is he going to get it? "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  3. Just out of curiosity, why did you ship the container with the reserve inside? I had some work done on my container last month. Prior to shipping it out, I removed the main, reserve and Cypres. Less weight to ship, less value to insure. Not that much work, and I was due for a reserve repack anyway. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 4. I don't know you, but I'd suspect you see such things as an opportunity to educate rather than en excuse to confiscate. Absolutely. I am fully in favor of those who are capable and qualified being allowed the means to defend themselves. But there are some who aren't. For lots of different reasons. Look at the highways and I'm sure you will see a fair number of drivers who have no business behind the wheel of a car. Same general principle. Unfortunately, just like with a car, the worst offenders fully believe they are perfectly qualified, and any criticism of their behaviors is an "attack on their rights". 5. Mainly because Chile has a working government, a financial surplus, adequate prior earthquake preparation (which includes a lack of corruption that ensured building codes would be followed). Hati has no working government, little building codes, and is horribly corrupt. A couple hundred thousand dead vs a couple hundred. Millions homeless vs a few thousand. Significant amounts of help needed vs not so much (but still some needed and being given). Hati needs everything Chile needs a few specific things, mainly comm and water and food. They have made specific requests, and are recieving them. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  6. see... I told you you were against people having the chance to defend themselves. You claim you're not, but you are. I only read part of the link, but the person had ample opportunity to defend herself. And chose to "take a beating rather than end a persons life". I see it as a chain of bad decisions, of which "flashing" the gun was only one. Not having the mindset to pull the trigger when necessary was the worst. I'm not entirely sure that pulling the trigger would have been the right decision. But pulling out the gun without being willing to pull the trigger is always a bad idea. I volunteer as a range officer at my local range and I see people who have no business holding a gun, let alone using it. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 7. I'd think the league would refuse the Brady Bunch as sponsors too. (correctly IMO) IIRC, the original Bad News Bears (Walter Matheau as coach, Tatum O'Neal as the pitcher) had "Chico's Bail Bonds" as the sponsor. If I understand the article correctly, this particular league probably wouldn't allow a Bail Bond outfit as a sponsor. Probably not strip clubs either. They (understandably) don't want sponsors who are going to be considered "Inappropriate For Children". And for a kid's baseball team, I think that's a smart thing to do. Guns (for or against), booze, crime related, sex related are all probably bad ideas. How about Banesanura sponsoring a Little League team "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  8. Yes they are. What is your point? Same as YOUR point in including Puerto Ricans in your list? Why not pick on Minnesotans or Wisconsinites? Plenty of them in FL. Oh yes, they're white. 9. Ah. Yeah, I hear that a lot. Since I never seem to get a satisfactory answer from anyone (on any end of the spectrum) to the following question, I might as well try it out on you: In a democratic republic, by whom should government be run, and how should they be selected? Hint: think broadly before you answer. Honestly? A lottery. Somewhere, I have heard the phrase that anyone who goes through the campaign process should automatically be disqualified from office. The willingness to put up with all the crap that comes with the campaign is a strong sign that the person is more interested in the power and the perks that come with the job than truly serving the publc. Perhaps put education, work experience, age, or other restrictions on the lottery. But make it so that those who actively seek power (and would then abuse it) aren't the only ones who can be in a position of power. Yes, there would be problems. Yes, there would need to be a pemanent (or at least semi-permanent) executive class. But (to a certain degree) that's in place now. While the Secretary of State and a lot of the ambassadors change with each administration, the rest of the State Department is permanent (civil service rules). I'm not expecting it to happen, and the downsides of having people who have no working knowledge of the government in charge of it may well outweigh the positives of having "power seekers" who abuse the system. But it's how we run our justice system (juries). And it's a nice dream to make all those idiots have to do some real work for a change "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 10. A/B then B/C then C/D makes for the most efficient pack job. As long as it ends up with all the lines straight and to the inside, and all the fabric neat (more or less) and to the outside, it will probably open ok. When I first started, I had trouble seeing the A/B and C/D groups individually. So I was taught to do the B/C divide first because it is the easiest to see because of the slider. Then I went back and did the A/B, but had to neaten the B/C after doing so. It took a little longer, but got the job done. I don't do it that way anymore, mainly because of efficiency and speed. I don't see any reason you couldn't have nice openings doing it "forwards" instead of "backwards" as long as it ends up the same in the end. 11. Yes, being a r/o is a lot of fun. You get to stand around and talk about guns a lot, and a lot of the shooters will let you run a few rounds throught their toys.
  12. Is it THIS? C-123. Isn't that like the one SDAZ has? IIRC, it's in "Good Stuff" when they throw stuff (mainly the "cars" segment) out the back of it. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  13. No Tsunami warning. Apparently the quake was too deep in the earth to cause one. CNN.com "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  14. Demo a couple different ones. PD does demos from the factory, Icarus does them through Para-Concepts (Gear store at Skydive Chicago, Icarus factory service center), Aerodyne probably does them, but I don't know through who (I'm sure someone will chime in). A lot of boogies have factory reps offering demo canopies. Fly the ones you are interested in and find which one you like best. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 15. The book is even better :http://www.gustavhasford.com/short.htm What motivated you do join the Marines, Nick? I know quite a few Marines, ranging in age from their 70's down to early 30's. Most have the globe and anchor tattoo, none consider themselves "ex". Few make a big deal about it, but many will share the funnier stories, some of the "funny" being relative. 16. We don't do Pumpkin Drops at my DZ anymore A couple years before I started somebody misjudged the spot and put one through the roof of a neighboring hangar. Missed the plane inside by about 5 feet, so I was told. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  17. They have too many people in LA. When you arrive, they want you to be unhappy and leave as soon as possible. When you leave, they want you to be as happy as possible. 18. Well, it's easier on the hands, and it helps the soap foam, and it softens stuff up better. So, yes. At least I think so. And how much waste is it to use a couple galllons? 19. What's a Samoas??? Plural of one from Samoa? Misspelled Samosa? Something altogether different? MMMMM Samoas Also known as "Carmel Delights". "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  20. People watch. Sit there and watch the world go by. The security line can be highly entertaining. Even more so if you realize how ridiculous the "security theatre" is. 21. Those fears aren't rational. Fear usually isn't. Doesn't make it any less scary, until you stop and think it all the way through. Riser pressure is different than toggle pressure. That's why landing a canopy on risers (if you break a steering line for example) is a lot different than a normal flare with toggles. Thrillstalker is correct. The first thing I do after opening is look around for any traffic conflicts and use risers to turn away from them (or towards the DZ) . It's a way to turn right now, without having to find and unstow the toggles. One of the advantages of being a student and opening high is that you have a lot of time under canopy. Talk to your instructors and get some ideas for what you should be practicing under canopy. Both before you unstow the toggles and after. Some of the stuff is progressive (you want to practice "A" and get comfortable with it before trying "B"), so don't just go up and do random stuff the idiots on here (including me) suggest. 22. There's nothing wrong with Western Union. From a buyer's perspective it's a little suspicious because there's no way to get the money back, but for a seller it's fine. It's pretty expensive for the stuff you are selling. US Postal money orders. Usually pretty cheap and reliable. Personal Checks. Make sure the seller knows you are going to wait until it clears before shipping stuff. Usually 7-10 business days. I've never used PayPal, but I understand it's fairly secure. There's a few quirks to it (Read the rules). Read the "scam" articles on the classified page. To be honest, the stuff you are selling isn't going to have a whole lot of attraction for the scammers. Not enough value. You could always get references from the buyer, most of the time there will be someone you and the buyer have in common. Don't be too surprised if a potential buyer asks you for references if you are requiring payment before shipment. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 23. I say "no worries" regularly but I had no idea the "no problem" thing was common in other languages. I guess you learn something new every day. Don't forget "De Nada" is (I think) "It's nothing". "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  24. Or at a later point in your training, have the instructor go over it. A big DZ like Elsinore probably has advanced student gear (a bit smaller) that the OP would advance to that would be suitable for stall training. I fully agree that it's an important thing to know. Airplane pilots are required to do full stalls as part of their training. Flight instructors are required to have spin recovery training. 25. Ok. That makes a lot more sense. I'm guessing he felt that you were borderline, and a little under. Taking you in and testing you and booking you and all that for a case he thinks won't go is a waste of his time and he knows it. He still got you off the road, he kept the public safe, and was able to go back to his job faster. BUT - I'll make a large bet that he kept an eye on your car the rest of the night. And I'll make a larger bet that if he had seen you driving it later on that you'd be asking how to defend an OWI citation instead of asking what "Cutting me loose" means. Lucky?? I hope you bought a lottery ticket on your way home "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
