The US is not even close to having as much of a social net as Canada or most European countries. "Heading in the same direction" is about as useless a descriptive since any small change in policy from either side being compared is, indeed, going in the same direction. Hell, France moving it's retirement age to 62 is "moving in the same direction as the US". Do you see many people claiming that the riots were cause by "moving in the same direction as the US"? Now, back to my original question. The reason that Drudge reports this is that it's readers wanna see it. Same reason the European media reports on the US problems; their readers want to see it.
