  1. I voted 2500' as being 'low' with unknown main canopy. These canopies that have to be a streamer for 1000' before they open, or where line twist is a high speed malfunction (when it used to not be a malfunction at all!) means anything lower than 3000' is probably to low for them. For my Sabre and Triathlons 2000' sub terminal and 2500' terminal is fine. And in a 'beat the rain and clouds' 182 load that didn't work, I got out at 2000' and told the under 400 jump newbies in the plane to stay were they were. I'm old for my age. 4. consew lists a 1000w motor but I couldn't find it for sale on line. Give them a call. Consew Model CS1000 (NOT CSM) Universal has an Enduro to 1400 watts but 220v to get there. Send masterrigger1 (MEL) a message. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  5. Even then a lot (most) of the documents are redacted. Go to the end and see lots of articles from before and after MLK assassination. Cuban treatment of death, concerning a speach that may be directed to communists and an invitation to MLK to USSR. Just 5 minutes and you can see there is a lot of CIA and other history from the 60's. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE

  9. I don't think I'd step over the launch cables when armed and the engine is running. That could do some serious damage at that speed. But I'd probably imitate the jet at the paris air show burying itself nkse first with the ejection at the same time. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE

  14. Okay, I have NOT tried to look at this and fix it yet. I got a VERY good deal (about 15% of the value when fixed) on a 1947 7-34 that went through Keystone sometime in the past. The seller had got it for 'crafts' but had never used it. G. to V.G condition, no rust, a couple of thread guide disks missing. Needs oiling and I expect it to run fine. Cycles fine now..... except.... The feed dog feeds backwards (no it doesn't have reverse) and the feed dog 'feeds' when the needle is down. Something is obviously assembled backwards, 180 degrees out, etc. I have 7-33 I can compare to. But again I haven't TRIED yet to sort it out. I expect that maybe without but for sure with comparison to the 7-33 it will be obvious. But, does anybody, also know as MEL, know off the top of their head exactly what the hell they did to this? It may have been the guy I bought it from. He's a retired vet self-described mechanic with too much time on his hands. He bought this to do the glove and wallet kits they gave him at the I assume the VA. The leaf spring was missing until he pulled it out from under the machine and said he took it off. He very well may have decided he needed to take more apart. When this is fixed and with a couple of small parts it will likely be a very good machine. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  15. Ask USPA Jump plane modifications that are not specifically described in the Aircraft Flight Manual must be accomplished by FAA issuance of either a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) or a Field Approval. For $100 ($200 for non-members), USPA sells STCs for jump conversions of original and early model Cessna 170, 172, 180, and 182 aircraft. These STCs accommodate the removal of the door, not an in-flight door. E-mail the Government Relations department at [email protected] or call (540) 604-9740. Ask Gary Peek, peek username on here. http://flycompassrose.com/jump-aircraft/ Claims to have STC's I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE

  17. Take a look in the right manual. See page 55 of the Jan. 2017 revised manual. "For units with DOM 12/15 and earlier the maintenance is mandatory to be performed 4 and 8 years after the original DOM. Service Life is 12.5 years. For units made in 2016 the maintenance is recom- mended to be performed 4 and 8 years after original DOM. Service Life is 12.5 years. For units with DOM 01/17 and later the main- tenance is recommended to be performed 5 and 10 years after the original DOM. Service Life is 15.5 years." I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE

  25. You also might consider a Single Operation System, SOS, where one handle has both the cutaway cables and the ripcord. Available on most rigs. Some DZ's use them for students and a few experienced jumpers use them. One on several world record bigways. I actually have an SOS system down stairs I'm in the middle of converting. I may not bother but it did need a BOC. You can also always go to a ripcord and spring loaded PC. In \board main RC and Reserve SOS handles would be reachable with either arm. I'm only partially kidding about the ripcord. Millions of skydives were made with one. And there's a reason your reserve is still a Ripcord. For that matter the rig downstairs still is set up for a main RC too. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
