  1. Trying to sort out if any PC besides a MA-1 can be used on an old Pop Top chest container. Any help? I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  2. It's hard to get complete fatality reports now. Or at least it was for the 20 years I was a S&TA. Getting that detail would be difficult for little benefit. Remember USPA has not right to any of the information. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  3. Sorry I can't tell analog from analog. And I still like my alitimaster II on my chest strap also. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  4. Hey Wendy, Can you fix the second paragraph so I know which one is which? I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  5. I bought this thumb size anemometer around 25 years ago. Battery not replaceable but still going. As simple as possibke but was 15 or 20 bucks. Works for cheap imprecise but comparable measurement of canopy speed. Looks like company has went up scale. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  6. Recently either on Facebook or on here there was a video of two canopies colliding side-by-side and Landing with one canopy wrapped around the top jumper. Can anybody direct me to that video? I can't seem to find it again. Two identical looking canopies with target fixation. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  7. No, thanks for reply. I ordered a new one. Old one was pretty old original with some wear. And apparently UPT changed size for this serial number. I knew it was wasn't right but took me few minutes to realize it was all stretched out. Just didn't know how often this happened. Are three rows 301 better or worse for durability? 8. I don't have a lot of experience with upt Spectra ripcord. Is it common for the entire bungee cluding the black outer sheath to break and separate? I seen photos of broken interior rubber strands but not the complete Bungie separated. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  9. The rubber band on the slider was either to speed up opening or slow them down depending on who you believed. Two theories, both probably true. Rubber band kept it from falling down before it was inflated and there by having a hard fast opening. Or rubber band held it up until canopy pressure forced it loose and it sling shot down faster for a faster opening. One it opens faster, on it opens slower. Pick one. But shouldn't't be used to keep slider in place because you can't control it. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  10. When you put your knee on it do NOT put your entire weight on it. Keep your weight on the other knee and only put enough pressure on the canopy to keep it in place, a few pounds. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  11. Turns out what I saw was similar to what I had been using but a while lot more stitches. Might have been 308 zigzag machine instead of 308 bartack pattern. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  12. On a Sabre 2? Forgot to call. What I took off last night didn't look like what I've seen before, older canopies. May have been aftermarket or I may have not seen later pattern. What I took off was 308, full width of 825, more than inch long. Blue but maybe not F thread. Someone put up a pic? Yes, yes I ought to know but it's been a long winter. Thanks. I'm old for my age. 13. But the odds of a teacher being there would be much higher than a police officer. The words shouldn't be 'arming teachers' implying all but 'allowing teachers to be armed' allowing choice. We've heard a lot about putting more police officers in more schools. But one thing to remember is that there are many civilians who are more familiar with firearms and defensive shooting than the standard police officer. I looked up our states annual re-qualification requirements. The long rang pistol requirement is 3 rounds in a torso target at 15 yards in 90 secs. A minute and a half. And they get more than one chance. Glock Sport Shooting Federation runs one of the simplest pistol competitions around. One course of fire are targets at 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 yards. 2 rounds each for time and accuracy. 3 times. Total of 30 rounds, 6 at 25 yards. The 84th place civilian competitor, fastest with excellent accuracy shot all 30 rounds, 3 groups of 10, in 58 secs with the equivalent of one miss. He may actually have hit all the targets with all rounds, not possible to tell from results. The fastest civilian AND police/military shooters shot all 30 rounds, 3 groups of 10, in about 20 seconds. When I shot one of these competitions I placed 15th or so with no practice in 6 months and around 20 warm up rounds. I probably took around 35 seconds for the 30 rounds. This is in no way to denigrate police officers. Many are very good shooters, many are trained to a higher level. But firearms are a very small part of their job and the required level of expertise is not particularly high. This is not to say by any means all civilian conceal carry license holders or others are better. Or even that many are better. In my state there is NO proficiency requirement for a Concealed Pistol License. A few hours of class room which often includes inaccurate information and something less than 50 yards down range. NONE have to hit the target. It just to show the applicant can and has make a firearm function. But we don't get to discriminate against ignorance, lack of skill or even wannabe mall SEALs. BUT there are civilians trained to an equal or higher level of firearms skill and many in target discrimination and background identification. It's not cops are better than any teacher. It's use any resource available. Can firearms in schools be kept out of kids hands? The ones the cops are wearing seem to be. BTW these are not race guns. They are stock Glocks perhaps with aftermarket notch and post open sites. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  14. As said above too many none substantive reasons for any particular individual to say no. No one else get to arbitrarily change your rights. Wouldn't stand up to due process. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  15. What Bill said what you described is not a total malfunction. And it is important because I have had jumpers who believed that pulling their cutaway handle during a total malfunction would open their reserve I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE

  17. Page 4 of the dual square report (found on the PD website: http://www.performancedesigns.com/docs/dualsq.pdf) says: The Army's intent was to try to deploy both canopies at exactly the same time to see if they would entangle. They showed video of these jumps and no matter how hard they tried the canopies both fully opened. On one jump the bag of one caught under the slider of the other momentarily. This and the subsequent PD testing and Dual Square report were mainly prompted by the growing acceptance of the Cypres AAD. A.A.D. (Vigil) wasn't around yet. The only scary moment in the Army's videos was when the main in front of a reserve in a biplane was chopped. One of the risers tried to snag the reserve lines as it slide up the front. That was enough to not want to chop a biplane if you didn't have to. I had a low level PC in tow, dumped the reserve and had both canopies opening above me as I went into the trees. Not fully open but both ended up in the tree separate from each other. What I still haven't explained is the Swift F111 free bag had friction burns through the material but no part of the reserve or the main was damaged. It went up something at high speed, perhaps the main lines or main PC but the canopies still didn't entangle. Also remember that none of these tests were done with high performance elliptical canopies. All bets are off on what might be stable or not with the high performance little stuff. Any videos of a Velocity spinning around a reserve? Line twist used to not be a malfunction but often requires instant cutaways on the little stuff before they spin too fast. And remember that these are dynamic systems. I watched a student side by side on a Manta and Raven IV that was stable for 1500' decide to transition to a downplane at 100' and severely injure the student. No input from student as far as we could tell. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  18. No, our urns will just rattle. Would be kind of funny if a family member had to take an urn like that through TSA at the airport. At the temperatures the crematoriums use, I would imagine these plates and screws melt down somewhat. Runs it through the x-ray machine... "Whoa... what's this?" (calls supervisor) My wife had to get the required paperwork for her mom's urn before she could take it with her back home a couple months ago. Shouldn't melt. Cremation only 1400 to 1800F. One of the screws in my broke and the had to take out part. It has a weird grain sfructure. Kind of wondered if it was titanium. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE

  20. To OP, photos from Jerry are of a very specific intentional cutaway rig made with handles that mimic their tandem rig. A cutaway, intentional or real is required to get a tandem rating. This rig, and I've jumped it, is so those without a cutaway can do an intentional cutaway. This rig has essentially two mains, with the second main ripcord activated to simulate tandem reserve. I second main, the simulated reserve, malfunction then a "normal" reserve is available. This rig is not the same as a tertiary added to a rig for CRW. Others have also made 'factory' intentional cutaway rigs. Notably Rigging Innovations for the Golden Knights. My problem with theirs is you cannot choose to open the main that you intend to land without opening and cutting away the first, often non landable canopy. In the event of an aircraft emergency or other reason to abort the intentional cutaway I want to be able to open the #2 canopy, the one I was planning on landing. Years ago I added a front mount with three ring release to a harness so others could get a cutaway. Less complex and you go back into freefall with your normal rig. I'm old for my age. 21. Cypres' can be set up to 1750 firing altitude. Should use 1000' above that. Student cypres' fires about 2500'/min. So no greater than say 1500'/min below 3000'. That assumes no great altitude offset. Ask Airtec, A.A.D. and MARs. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  22. No, at :29 there is a truck with trailer bearing down on him. He crosses two white lines to get to shoulder. Think he was in a merging lane. at :39 the truck with trailer is next to him in the lane where he ended up sliding to. A good thing he got out of the way. But how damn lucky can you be? 23. I believe T stands for troop. I'm nor a military rigger but as I recall the cargo parachutes I'm familiar with were G-?. Do you want 24' T 10 reserves, 35 ' T 10 mains, or larger 44' or 100' cargo parachutes? Hmm, I think there is a smaller cargo version too. BTW ebay is your friend.😉 I'm old for my age. 24. Because we won in 1783 and we can do what we want.😉 And to make our engineers learn two systems.🙄 And mercury from the manometer is fun to play with on the desk.☠ I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  25. So he did not assume that it was a universal constant, and this concerns you? Ok. Yes, because he should know that by now. This gear is what saves your life. Relying on a rigger or an AAD may be required by law or DZ rule but you need to know as much about your gear as you can. The basics of how it works is .. well basic. Knowing that you may have a PC hesitation that you have to blow off by rolling a shoulder or setting up my save your life. And it's YOUR responsibility to know what to do to save your life. I've know jumpers with hundreds of jumps who didn't know how to hook up a 3 ring. This means that they didn't know if it was wrong. At drove me nuts. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
