  1. I'm clarifying what I meant... probably should have done that before I submitted. I forget that most people on the eastern half have a different idea of North than I do. I also wont say that I never generalize, anyone that does would be liar. (see what I did their )
  2. When I speak of the North I refer to the Northwest (Oregon, Washington), sorry I should have clarified. (or even just the west; Utah, Nevada, Idaho) And when I'm speaking of the South I'm only speaking of the places I've lived; Mississippi, Alabama, and Virginia I try to only ever speak from experience. I have been to places in the Northeast that have no tact. In fact the most tactless person I've ever met in my life was from Rochester, NY but after going to his wedding and meeting his family I discovered it was just him And this is also only referring to cities... the country is the country no matter where you go. However there is no backwoods out here cause until you can get 200 miles from anywhere you haven't seen anything.
  3. I'll stand behind your statement, that is what bothers me the most. +1
  4. Well than tact instead of PC. I miss living in a place where people have tact.

    Nervous

I must be some kind of ... "freak of jumper nature" ... according to your categories I fall into “B” … and I feel nothing like I know everything in the world; just the opposite, in fact. As I’ve been around a bit more (months, versus weeks), I’ve read more, heard more and seen more, I have become more acutely aware of the dangers involved ... and my fear grew acordingly. O And I have a C and I still think I know everything in the world about skydiving and nothing wrong can happen
  6. I think you misinterpreted her meaning... The way I see it she was trying say "What about us, as complete strangers, makes you think it's ok to make a racist comment to us?" I think one of the big differences I've seen from North to South is more people think its ok to be a little racist in the South. And yes it is PC thing. The South seems to be the least PC place I've ever seen.
  7. *inb4 SC Being military my whole life I've lived a lot of places... now in general those places that give you an uncomfortable feeling are the very poor areas. I've been enough places that I've seen every race living in those areas so I've learned to differentiate between the two. Down here in Montgomery no one can argue that the majority of the poor areas are of a black majority. This skews most of the peoples views around here. I won't get into the reasons for poverty, but no one can argue that poverty and crime are not related. One comment I'll add is the crime does seem to be more violent (I've lived in many cities of this same size), but the poverty level also seems to be much higher. And for full disclosure I live in a nice neighborhood and my roommate is black and not military.
  8. Reporting in from Montgomery, AL Its here and its bad...
  9. Talk with your DZ as many will have gear that can be a good starter set or they will know someone who does... As for money expect to spend between 2-3 thousand for everything you need. Many starter rigs can run ~$1500 but remember that you need a few more items like helmet, goggles, altimeter, and suit.
  10. When did this become Facebook?
  11. Although there are many good reasons not to own your own gear early on, there is no such rule saying you can't as you imply.
  12. Tongue Belly Button sometimes nipples... as for me I like any of my piercings to be played with Oh I like a few ear piercings on a girl also but dislike facial piercings. The rest I don't have an opinion on
  13. See we always get "Sexual Harassment Training" yearly to teach how to harass better :)
  14. To my knowledge is has happened twice at my DZ, both times cut away by the pilot.
  15. When she makes it their ratings are going to skyrocket from all of the dz.commers who start watching. Unfortunately there are not enough skydivers in the country to make a dent in AI's ratings one way or another...
  16. Since people is so quick to point out when someone refers to something in England by its American name... (trash can comes to mind) What's a cheque
  17. Actually there are some very high quality blends... but they are made from high quality single malts. I gave my bottle of 18 year Glenlivet to a body shop that helped me out after I hit a guardrail while PCSing cross country.
  18. I voted yes but your poll answers are a little biased...

    Cornbread?

I grew up with corn bread cooked in the muffin pans... sometimes cast iron sometimes not. My issue is now that I'm living in Alabama, I have very different expectations of what cornbread should taste like... cornbread should be sweet. Apparently down here they call that Yankee bread.

    Getting Tossed

I for one have 8 hours a day to sit here and figure them out... But getting a hint every now and then doesn't hurt. I'm interested in what he has to say...
  21. It's good to see Hobby Field will open up again. I went to high school about 10 miles from there and my parents still live there. A year ago I jumped with Urban while they were landing on a private farm field that was 20 mins away by car... but not big enough for students. Last year they could no longer take fun jumpers by request of the field owner only wanting tandems landing there now. Hobby field has a large safe LZ.
  22. Dudeist Skydiver # 9.8 ( I wanted the answer to life the universe and everything but it was already taken so I'll take gravity instead )
  23. As of March of this year (Last time I talked with Urban (the DZO)) Eugene Skydivers was only doing Tandems... no more fun jumpers either. Sad because I jumped with them last year while visiting my parents in Cottage Grove. BTW they are located in Creswell and not actually in Eugene. As for Skydive Oregon, I have been there but didn't get the chance to jump. Great facilities and a private air field, nice people. I highly recommend them.
