  1. I still fly one (1982) but I'd trade it even up for a J3 18" MLW or a new Voodoo So like, is there an antiques roadshow for jump gear? Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
  2. I can't say that I Lie it When... ...my rig is in the back of a borrowed sports car (old British) and Lucas electrics conspire to leave me stranded without the posiblity of making the sunset load (happened this weekend) ... the plane reaches a very expensive 100 hour service near season end and the DZ decides to close early despite record warm temperatures (true story, happening this weekend). 3. Chopchop. Turning = 'alti check and try for a bit longer'. Diving = bad an chop it. I have little experience at diving canopies and none with spinning mals. I did, however, pull a bonehead one day and routed the excess brake line wrong on a Sabre 2. One brake fired and the other didn't. As this was a loaner rig I really didn't want to chop it, and I sure didn't want to get in over my head with altitude issues (though I normally fly 'his' reserve as a main). Counter steering gave me enough stability to sort out the entanglement and fire the other brake and then life was good. The whole episode took about 500 feet. If I had pulled at my normal deployment altitude rather than high I might well not have had much to decide. The faster you go the faster you need to be. That was my point Wendy, I didn't . Seriously, on the main forums page, on the right hand side of the forum description bar there are "of threads and # of posts bar. when you og in you often see "X new" in red - look above that. And, above all else, make sure you;ve had enough caffiene so that you can actually comprehend what the number says Dave
  5. ...same guy shown (infamously) holding a primary reader upside down as he was 'reading' to schoolkids?? Roses are red, violets are blue I'm happiest in the sky plummeting towards you
  6. ] Disappointed??? Nope. I'm still here and lovin every jump. More frustrating is that it's becoming a bit like 'work' tyying to find the 'edge of scared' feeling I crave so badly. Sad that something so exciting as skydiving could become 'ordinary' ... maybe this is how freefly came about ... before CRW came about ... before RW came about.... wonder what's next? Dave

False alarm. I have to leave for RW now. someone post #500,000 here. My bet is it will be somebody just waking up on the left coast to cloudy skies (sorry, not a wish, just a prediction) who will then attempt to make a good day of it. Dave
  9. RW - and helping a friend pull the motor out of his 67 E type Jag. Next weekend I jump. Sadly it's also the closing weelend. Dave
  10. I have RW this weekend. Next weekend is closing weekend. Yoiu know where I'll be then. This is as skydiving related as I'll be getting till then -Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
  11. I did IAD (static line) from a cessna 2 years ago. I was disappointed that I felt no such 'falling' feeling. I don;t know about going out on a tandem first but the one thing you WILL notice is you go from noise and wind to virtual SILENCE - makes you feel as if you've gone deaf. It's really cool. Of course, the faster you fall the noiser the air again becomes, but there are no vibrations or engine noises. Actually, every time I jump fro ma plane a ifeel free and reborn. Have fun. 12. ...might be me... would tha make me faomus, or infamous -Dave
  13. Started Sept 1, 2001. DZ closed for the season Oct 15, 2001 (15 jumps) Reopened April 20 2002. 5 jumps. First and only cutaway. Did my career 100th in Early August. Still nice enough outside to get pied. Finished the Season on Oct 16 with 121. Achieved a solo certificate, A and B license (C still requires 200 here). One little cessna. Weekends only with the odd weekday thrown in. Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
  14. So long as you don't need to land.... "backwards" flight is something to do under a big 7 cell at altitude with an armslength of brakes and then some. Or, you could try out a Kaos 27 (sq. ft. not cells) and try to shoot accuracy 35?!? That's like, HUGE wind. Can you imagine how fast a downwinder would feel (while you still had consciousness) Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
  15. My Raven (tired, F-111, 1:1 loading) very rarely gives me a chance to see it unfold. Still, despite pro packing (really trash packing), a larger slider and a slider pocket as well to help tame the openings, 400 ft from toss to reaching for brakes is about my interval. Consistency, more than anything, is comforting. Reserve ride? EVERY jump I make is s reserve ride. Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
  16. I typically wear one to DZ just 'cause. A good loud print shirt has a sort-of psychadellic effect on me. Wearing a Formula 1 or skydiving necktie almost counteracts the buttoned up collar, too. Try it sometime (that is, if you must wear a suit on occasion) -Dave
  17. No, Jim, that would be the COLD toe drag. And... you might find the swoop pond frozen to the bottom making a chow that much more painful . Frozen ground is not at all forgiving but I would love to try a no-flare downwinder on a ski hill that was covered in a couple feet of powder ... I never was any good at powder skiing - always kept sinking in - bet the chute would make for a real cool swoop Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)

  20. Works for me. Properly timed, you can get your 'winter' repack late enough in December to accomodate a March trip to the US (or any 120 day region) and still get well past the opening weekend 'rigger's rush' before our 180 day schedule sets in. Fingers crossed, haven't chopped my own rig yet. Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)

    sunset pic

Wow!. Great picture. Ditto on the desktop request - I live on a cessna DZ and seeing 14 reminds me of my Kingair visit to Hollister
  22. Aah. I SEE. And you would be planning to drink the de-alcoholized Rye wouldja? The thing about Rye (and other strong spirits) is they are antiseptic by nature ... beer and wine are not strong enough. Worth a try? That which does not kill me makes me stronger. Therefore, after doing stupid things under a 220 I am more resistent to death under a 107, right??? Dave PS get a 'normal' definition while you're getting one for 'excessive' Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
