  1. Lemme guess Andy... you're a Campbell's Soup fan? Dammmit I think I'll bar-b-q tonight. Cow with sauce and a bottle of wine...(red) -Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
  2. ...priceless. Ever noticed how cats in a room full of people will gravitate to cat non-lovers (and people weating black) ? -Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
  3. I was wondering how long that antic would take to reach dropzone.com... I sure wasn't going to instigate....but I love the video!! Reminds me of an old Bugs Bunny where Yosemite Sam ... "first the wadding, then the powder, then theBANG!!" We have no potato cannon at our DZ opting instead for the Stealth BBQ pies -Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
  4. Ou principal pilot has a couple hundred jumps, both milatary and sport combined. Man can he fly a mean jumprun. I've seen Duncan jump, too and he's not too shabby there either. Have I seen him bail out and jumpa round? Nope, and I hope never to see it. that would spoil it for everyone, being a 1 cesna DZ and all -Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)

  6. Jump #20 Seasonal DZ, opening weekend. It was Earth day 2002... nice on the ground but still bloody cold at altitude. Fourth jump of the day and I'd carried on my student progression ot 20 second delays. Did my tasks and had a grand to spare before my assigned pull altitude of 4k. flew flat and happy for a 5 count then pulled. ...then another 5 count with nothing. YIKES!! PC in tow - shoulder check --aaah there it i.... Waaaagh! Slider is 'stuck' at the top (it just might been an actual snivel from a Cruiselite) but I was still cookin at 2500 ft so i chopped. 24 foot Lopo from near-terminal. I couldn;t believe how BIG and how QUIET a round was.... even though it was a small one .... and how brutal the opening was. Winds pushed me over congested areas but set me down with a sideways PLF on soft spring grass - about 30 feet long of a half demolished building . I de-geared, debriefed, went to buy my case, and was on the sunset plane (2 loads later). Reserve ride was the Best thing that happened to me, but now I wanna try to fly a round for FUN -Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
  7. ...ever tried that with a Spectre? I did, and while I was nowhere near hard deck I didn't make it home. fifteen hun from pitch to control check sounds about right ...but then again it doesn't ... right? Frankly, jumping a Raven as a main, all I ask is that there be SOME form of something between the snatch force and the inflation. In around 125 jumps on that canopy I've seen it slider up maybe a couple dozen times . Of course I'm tough, right? Tune in next week to learn how to 180 riser carve a big ol' 7 cell with no flare -Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
  8. So this Mike fella, flew Spitfires in WWII did he? Yikes! I've heard the plane is fast but I didn't believe that he actually beats the jumpers to the ground I thought the 'nornal' Kingair at Hollister was a quick ship - I'm not sure I'd agree with those who say there's less room than in a C 182 (I live in one) but it sure is cozy. I kinda miss being able to salute the pilot on exit in the larger ship as I take a stand off the step -Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
  9. Hi Peter PUD vs BOC will change nothing about the snivel or inflation stages of the opening sequence. From my experience demo'ing PUD's, you'll find the snatch force hits sooner than with a BOC. With the same pilot chute it will feel the same. The p/c's job is to pull the pin, extract the bag to line stretch, and then pull the bag off the canopy. Then you have the snivel. The slider is the device that keeps the canopy from opening with a BANG all at once. LArger sliders offer more resistance. Many original Sabre owners have larger sliders made - indeed the slider size on Sabre 2's is HUGE by comparison. youcould also have your rigger sew a 'pocket' onto your existing slider. THIS stage of deployment if often the key between a slammer and a not slammer. If you look up at your canopy right after you;re tugged upright and it is 'shimmying' open you have a 'snivel' and a soft opening. If you look up to find an open canopy - you need a bigger slider! I jump a Raven main (reserve design, supposed to open with a BANG) and a larger and pocketed slider is what it took for me. Yes, you'd love a PD Sabre 2. If you decide to go that route, sell me your hornet cheap? -Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
  10. I can I can!! All but 7 of my jumps have been out of one 182 in particular, C-GXKU, a 1956 'original' with narrow (yes, narrow-ER!) fuselage and tall (yes, tall-ER) landing gear. It's actually a lot of fun practising spotting and trying to be precise about it - our student gear and a few seniors still jump ROUND reserves and that just makes the job that much more fun. I don't often get to spot but it's been fun to do for me since I was required to learn for my A license. I think too many people just get waived off on that requirement - maybe it's just my '7 cell anvil' that makes me sensitive to a bad spot -Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
  11. Maan, I'm strting to feel like a night jump weenie after all your 'troubles' Goose. Ours is a 6800 ft runway, still in use by the military on occasion, with all the lights and beacon and everything else needed to find it. Five keys on the mic during jumprun and voila there it was. Go ahead, call us wimps. Our bowl is a 50 metre 'sea of peas' used by the SARtecs just to top it all off. Now, landing 'off' DZ when we're pushing the technical limit of 'day jumps' can be a challenge, but springtime's freshly plowed fields are nice and soft... -Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
  12. They don't NEED dope... this is your brain. this is your brain with a side of hash browns and bacon ... Yikes. wonder if they'll get off for 'entrapment' ?? -Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
  13. Daaamn, now I have the refrains of "Bela Lugosi's Dead" by Bahaus running through my mind...good call on the photo ... great quote though -Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)

  15. We had loads of 4 in our 182. I experienced NJ'er and 2-3 newbies. All had strobes to be used under canopy. All had dytters set for 4500 and 3500 depending if you ere 1st or 2nd out on the pass. 2 jumpers per pass. glowsticks galore. We were prety much going to the letter of the endorsement and I'm glad we did. There were no problems but the whole thing was like a hands-on FJC again. The moon didn;t riste till after 11 and I was on load #1 - I think I logged it as Saturday's date but landed on Sunday! the3 Beer light didn't come on till 2:45 ayem!!!! I got no sleep. Still wired from the experience, and due to be working the sports car race next door starting at 9 ayem, I opted to stay up and fire up the grille for the concession at about 6:30 ayem. Man was I wrecked by the end of that weekend. Again!! -Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
  16. Mine was three weeks ago. We had 13 participants at Gimli and 7 of us owed BEER!! for the experience. sounds like we have an easier time of the landings than you do, being on a prairie WWII airfield and all. Still, I hear ya wot with the glowsticks and strobes and sunglasses at night... first time I've worn an audible... Mars looked awesome... the near-full moon erected a column of silvery light from the edge of lake Winnipeg all the way up the sky

Go back to your original photo and do it this way... I had the ame trouble. 1. Crop the photo to what you want to display. 2. choose 'image size' and resize it to about the 65 x 75 - experiment a bit... 3. (the important one) Use save for web option. Now when you adjust the 'quality' slider you'll see the file size below the photo actually changes. Select accordingly. the problem I used to have saving in 'normal' jpeg is that it SAID the file size wqas smaller but it never actually saved to disk below about 12 kb. Dunno why but his functions as a workaround. Anyone have the answer? ...Bueller? ... ... Bueller?? -Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
  18. I am Soooo buusted on that list... ...and Poison are playing Winnipeg tomorrow night. Maybe their current World Tour is comingto a city near you? -Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
  19. Hi Larry, Spend your case of BEER!! talking to other experienced jumpers on DZ about that packing technique. I've jumped several different Sabre 1's from a 210 down to a 170 and they all opened a bit differently. At 10 jumps you're likely not pro packing yet (maybe not packing at all?) but my very best advice would to get someone VERY experienced to pack it for you while you watch. then ,jump that pack job and report back. You'll fine tune it and after that you just repeat the process over and over. I jump a Raven II as a main (a reserve design, opens even harder) and I've found a few things that work for me. One thig is for sure - ANY canopy has the possibility to occasionally smack you even if you do everything right but Original Sabres have been tarnished with a more frequent occurance. Just pay attention and enjoy it. -Dave PS: a Sabre 170 is likely to be my next canopy unless I can get a smokin deal on a Sare 2 Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
  20. :4:1 24 stolen hours at DZ but well worth it. Gonna pay for it tonight and tomorrow though with a backlog of reading to do. Packed 14 student Mantae (Mantas??) - about enough work for three free jumps next time out. They will all be freefly jumps
