  1. I think its only fair that you post some pictures of the RSl secured in its cover, so everyone can see the finished article as well as the breakdown pictures.... But yeah, it does look like a snag hazard in that picture, though a friend of mine has a TS SF and the RSL is very well hidden in the velcro cover from what I can recall.
  2. R Petrie Its simple, you need to pay Bliston to do the pack job for you He seems to have got the technique down///
  3. Has anyone else here had this issue with a skystems Oxygen? Mine is a complete bi*ch to open...even after quite a lot of use... Its a great locking system for freefall...but under canopy it can be a real pain to get the visor up, especially if youve got other issues to deal with, such as a mal....
  4. Why not ask an instructor at your local DZ ...!
  5. I dunno... Maybe he just wants to skydive? lol Bowing to the superior knowledge of a lot of posters in this thread...like TK says..... people this heavy really shouldnt be skydiving. for the very numerous reasons listed above. BUT, if the guy has a huge wallet, and a very strong will, then he 'may' be able to buy himself into the sport. But surely it would be easier for him to do a crash diet and get down to say 230lbs (even 250!??), where he would at least stand a good chance of getting some equipment that can be used legally and within its TSO's? just depends how much he wants to skydive I suppose....
  6. Thanks guys for all your input Some golden info here Riggerrob/ Thanks. Sounds like its worth a punt to me.... I might even use the soft housings to prove your theory wrong Is the Talon 94 OLDER or newer than the Talon 1? And the 10 million dollar question - would you all be happy to jump it..? I would going on what Ive read so far!
  7. How does he afford to Paraglide for a profession if he cant afford an AFF course? Sounds weird to me.... if its true, good luck to him, the two sports are related, but very different....
  8. I have been offered this container by a distant contact and the person who is selling is pretty clueless as to its exact model etc heres a few pictures of it, http://i694.photobucket.com/albums/vv307/blueones22/2.jpg http://i694.photobucket.com/albums/vv307/blueones22/1.jpg http://i694.photobucket.com/albums/vv307/blueones22/3.jpg http://i694.photobucket.com/albums/vv307/blueones22/4.jpg What I have been told about it is that its a T5 container,(150sq ft main) and he believes it has been used for crew.. which would make sense looking at the graphics on the container. Im trying to ID what model of talon it is and he has no idea... Is it the Talon 1? I was wanting a cRew rig or at least a cheap, reliable spare rig and Im not sure if its worth buying to put into stock so to speak? Harness Size wise it should fit ok. Is it cheap to replace the soft housings (for hard ones) for the cutaway? (as in do RI sell them) What are your thoughts please?
  9. That is a different discussion. Here in europe tandems are sold as thrilrides making the person in front a passenger. Here is Finland, Europe every tandem passenger is a student. It a part of the student training. Not in the Uk..... They are strictly a passenger from my experiences and talks with TIs in the UK. Nothing more.
  10. Ive heard of actual helicopter parachute devices.. http://www.freepatentsonline.com/3138348.html Never seen one in action though
  11. Oh man... I'm not on here to just bash a manufacturer, and my previous post asking for a consensus and first hand experience should confirm that. Mirage makes a damn good rig, but many people are having this problem and there are NO POSTS anywhere revolving around this issue. And it is an issue for freeflyers. Are you the sole spokesperson for 'all' these unhappy G4 owners? Why are they not also posting in here... Also, the rig is not 1 and 1.5 feet from his back in the video. NO where near that!
  12. Bingo The cunning 3 ring system places almost no strain on the top loop If an average opening is 1000 lbs force spread between both risers That is 500 lbs PER riser. Now, each ring reduces that by tenfold. So the second ring is subjected to 50lbs, the top one 5lbs only
  13. Your instructors will teach you the safety drills you NEED to know... be careful of what you read on the internet as someone above has said... its not always correct, and often not relevant to AFF level 1 The one thing I would advise is to practice arching (search this forum for exercises) and make sure you are as flexible and fit as possible I still remember the gruelling session I got on a wooden bench perfecting an arch on the ground . and I hadnt prepared at all and really felt it the next day after several hours of running through the diveflow, on the ground, on the bench, in an arch
  14. Its still a pipedream at the moment. he is about $15 million short of the sponsorship target he needs iirc. The main cost is building the huge ramp that he would need to match his glidepath and make the landing potentially surviveable. It 'may' be possible that he can pull this off, but then again, it may not.... If you search youtube there is an interview with him about it somewhere. Very early stages although he does have some respected names and companies onboard with the project.
  15. For some, skydiving is a luxury... for others, it is a necessity
  16. Im by no means a Ti so cant offer advice on the drogue entanglement bit, apart from get a new vidiot!! But at my DZ and several others I have been to (UK) the camera exits from a float on the outside of the plane, thereby meaning they leave at the same time as the tandem pair. I would think this is safer from a point of view of not having the vidiot above you, with the risks that could pose?
  17. I dont know what anyone else thinks but I think every DZ should run mandatory basic first aid training for all licensed jumpers...on a regular basis. Specifically geared towards the sort of injuries they may see from parachuting. I think this would be a good help in certain situations... (not all... there would still need to be an action plan to avoid a clusterf*ck of newbie first aiders all trying to help out) Possibly it could even be added to the syllabus for getting a B or C license? I know its not relevant to a skydive but 'if' that one jumper who had done their basic or advanced first aid course... happened to land next to a badly injured jumper, they could be the person that saves that individuals life in between then and the time that the EMTs arrive. I know some DZs have super organised emergency plans and loads of qualified medical personel on site... but not every DZ does
  18. Good advice there. For ur info there are AFF instructors in the UK (not Baritain but Britain ) who have 7 -> 10,000 plus skydives. One of them teaches at my DZ and is really at the top of his game. Theses guys have some really amazing bodyflying skills and can catch pretty much any AFF student they have ever jumped with, and thats a lot. BUT, a big but.... Im not sure if they would take on the challenge of teaching AFF to a paraplegic, mainly because they think safety first and I guess have no experience in this area... The AFF instructors you find at your DZ would certainly need to think it over for a while and see what they could come up with. As mentioned, I reckon get a few tandems under your belt, make your intentions known at the DZ... and see how it goes from there. If that DZ will not offer a course, move to the next DZ!!! But it really does depend on how much you want it I would say. You will need to be very persistent. And I havent seen a reply in this thread from you for a while so ..... who knows
  19. Who told you that Seriously though.... To the original poster. You will likely have a great time and the jump will be fine. But, no one can guarantee anything in life....so you need to be aware of that when you sign the disclaimer saying you are aware of that
  20. Blimey Thats a mouthful of rules right there!!! Thanks for all the input guys.
  21. Good one. My advice is to get back there as soon as possible....time will only make getting back in the sky more nerve wracking. I went through a similar thing when I sprained my ankle on my FJC (due to a no flare!!) I was really worries going back for the second aff level 4 weeks later. I gritted my teeth and remembered to flare that time (pain does that to a human!!!) and although it wasnt a stand up I landed fine. Then I got the hang of landing well a few jumps later and stand ups (or slides) since then
