  1. At least three feet. There was also a steering mod where the rings were sewed at the steering loops. All mine had it done but not sure exactly the rigger did.
  2. I had a Comet 300 before sizing was was made the same for manufacturers . Actuall size turn out to be 288. Ididnt pack it when I demoed it. That was the only cutaway ever on it. It was the retired after 600 jumps
  3. I have number 86 just about filled. As a friend told me years ago if you lose one only 150 jumps maximum are lost. It pity those who lose a 500 jump one. So far so good, I also have the names of all 3700 tandems I took.
  4. I have used "Ice fishing gloves" fro K-Mart for 25 years. They are quite similar to Scuba diving gloves except $8.00.. You get good feeling and even better when your hands were sweating while the rest on the load complain about freezing
  5. We have a guy that claimed to make 6 or 700 jumps last year the computer said 138
  6. My Unit number 26 arrived it had a note that saidWe are not allowed to crossport because of patenr rights. We have drawn circles where you should hot knife them." If you have a sniveller add a small set across the back ribs. It was common to put a larger and larger hole in your slider until you got the opening you wanted.
  7. " Its obvious your area of expertise is not with aircraft", usually works good. Or "You havent seen the plane up close have you" "Did you ever think about going to a better eye doctor than Big Lots best?" "Our good one isnt back from repairs yet ,we will just use this one instead"
  8. I have them slide the leg straps down their thighs after opening as taught on the ground . We practice lifting their heels high. I tell them like at fat lady in a shoe store when feasable. If they still have problems slide the straps further like your sitting on a swing. .Then at landing feet up for the slide no problems. We have many different canopies but this works on all. For standups I tell them its like walking off a escalator when we touch . You dont let your soles chirp when you touch the ground. This has worked for 20+ plus years so you can try it with out woories.
  9. Just the front cargo door Then rear cargo off caused to much turbulance. Of course the real DC-3 Never had a cargo door. The one floating around from Summerfest was actually a C-47. The door shown on the pictures is the "Man door" removed from the cargo door with the round top. the darkened square outline is the real cargo door The DC-3 door only had a rain drip rail over the door about 1/4 to 38 to grip on
  10. You never mentioned the Russian 23 or 27. the 23 was a brisk landing ,the27 was also tolerable. The jumbo came in 28and 32. The competition had large steering slots and a big drive window, best to land in peas. The RW-PC was better material that packed smaller BFD. Mark II needed the hook knife slash out drive hole conversion. It was made for "Airborne" for steering but caused more canopy bumping. If all canopies drifted off somewhere to land with the grace and dignity of a case old hand grenades falling off a deuce and a half bed. that was ok but give them the ability to crash into each other was not good.this was 1966 to 1968. In 1969 Mark I were back
  11. I took one a few months ago for GM They check off where the hair came from . Head ,arm pit , other etc. So shaving might only postpone your test and your career. Go for it and hope for the best. Ican talk to the people at the clinic about it but not until Monday. Good luck
  12. Words to live by for me at 22 from a guy about my age 69. If you are hanging around bars etc. "If you arent in bed by 11:00 go home. Basically saying if she still hasnt made up her mind if your getting lucky ,she wont at closing time either My favorites from the "Bucket List" only know 2 for sure. Never pass a bathroom , never let a hard-on go to waste
  13. I did 60 for my 60th birthday fund raiser for M,S, . Pissed a lot of people off that bet a $1.00 a jump that i wouldnt complete it. All from 1500 to 1800 feet as the cloud cover and high winds. Last jump we got to 2200. I also set my own record for 16 tandems in a day at 66 ,only did 12 Satyrday. I will be 70 in 14 months maybe try 70 for 70 for MS again.
  14. We had a dear friend Tom Racho no passed away from "Agent Orange " that could stand in the door of a C-182. Miss Tom still . About the "Short People" song.by Randy Newman. during this time. There was a resturant in New York City that had a horizontal bar in it. If you could pass under it your meal was 1/2 off. They got to pick though. You got shrimp salad. short ribs and strawberry short cake for desert. It was said the line went almost around around the block.I worried as a kid in the ninth grade I was 62 inches , then when i graduated I was 73 inches. We got a vertically challenged frien a T-shirt that said "Elevators dont always smell the same to short people". When you are in freefall no one knows the difference. Proud of you for jumping
  15. Its a plane old "Spider pilot chute" .I used to pack them in surplus Air Force and Army seat pack pilot rigs. You had one photo holding the attachment loop. That was the start of the process flaking was involved but dont remember the rest as it was 1974 when I worked for Danny Latchford at Midwest parachute in Novi
  16. One from Charley {captain Smooth} Greenfield "He could fuck up a one car funeral" Mine is He couldnt find his way out of a closet with both hands on the door knob and the light on".
  17. I got to jump there in 1976 after hearing about it from friends. Great place, fun people and times. I will see Vinnie P. this week end and ask him for photos OK
  18. I remember seeing that also . Kind of a grin as I had 3 PC's 2Delta II's and 3 Para-Planes in my trunk at that time. I could jump all day without re-packing at our C-182 DZ's
  19. We stayed at the "Semihole in back then too . I remember the C-170's with the "Beer Bouys" a beer can holder that pivots for boats, If you sat on the floor student style and the pilot tipped your head keep it there as an empty was whipped out the open door. Iwas there when an accuracy tournament was going on, but we had Sweets Lodestar to fun jump. Great place there was a B-25 rigged for crop dusting too.
  20. I got 6 out of Tecumsehs on the past week-end Great plane. As far as the PAC goes BFD cramped and low door never made it with me. I couldnt see the bragging about it. Wish the Kodiak was out pre Caravan days. Dont tell Franz I said great choice, it would go to his head
  21. It depended what round you were talking about. Arag or T-10 with a hot shit 7-TU right toggle distorted the size of the opening, allowing more air to go through the left side. A PC had an inverted apex and actual steering flaps, still same principal. A Mark 1 had a drive hole in the back, Mark2 no drive hole until hook knife time. Mark 3 and competition PC's had a big drive hole and bigger flaps. With those and UT-15's people still used the for accuracy long after Clouds came out. Only the Foil was used for stomping the disc .
  22. You can go to Home Depot plumbing dept. There are "O-Rings" of many sizes to pick from usually for one handle faucets. Pick the stitches out and resew in your new one Also any auto parts store has them mostly for automatic transmission rebuilds Some ACO hardware stores have them that you can buy seperate, not in a pack of 5 or so. Bring your altimeter with you for comparison
  23. We always called it "Electric 8-way" .Actually a key works easier and plug it into an anti surge extension cord for computers. It keeps the sides better seperated. They did this alot a Tecumseh MI. when Mark was running it.When you wanted out you did a reverse dock by putting the hands on each side back together, that way the juice never stopped . If you were on one key and reached across to the other key holder they usually got upset. Wouldnt be the first time and the beer was already bought
  24. I remember one of the first FreakBrother Boogies at Quincy Roger gave out free jump tickets for the most gaudy and tasteless camp ground. Even with only a pup tent 7 mingo's was barely adequate . Christmas lights were also a nice touch. One guy had the picket fence mother goose and kids mama skunk and kids. His crowning glory was a birdbath. He went up on a load i poured out the water put in a bottle of Mountain dew an O'henry and toilet paper ,couldnt figure why he got mad.
  25. My original Richmond Boggie T-shirt and the guy with the big feet and shit hanging out of his belly wart "Keep on tracking" got thrown out by my darling wife because "they were old and worn out". Iran and searched the trash then she told me it was weeks ago 30 years back.I still will never forgive her for that. It was old and worn out because they were my favorite shirts. Women just dont understand sacred. Does anyone have a picture of the "Keep on tracking" Scotty Carbone did a T-shirt for Richmond Revisited with the guy now in a Pop-Top for Steve and Jane Stewart. Make my day please
