  1. One more thing that wasn't mentioned. recently one of our competing dropzones was hit by a tornado and its staff was out of work for a few weeks. StartSkydiving extended an invitation for its staff to come work there and make some money until their dropzone was open for business. We didn't just offer them a few jumps, we put them in the full rotation. The staff at Start invited them with open arms, from packers, to instructors. I have worked at a lot of dropzones, and I don't know of many that the instructors would be willing to share the work openly. That is the type of place that Start is, and the type of people that work there. I come from Florida, and there is a lot of dropzones there, yes there is competition but the staff from the dz's in Florida all get along. I would love to see this up here. I cant talk about the other dz's but us at start hold no ill will or hard feelings towards the other dz's in the area. It would be nice if we all could get along, and even take turns visiting each other's dropzones for a day of jumping. I personally wish to invite anyone that works or jump's at any dropzone to come out for a jump or two, and in return will get a group of us to come to your place and make a few jumps with you. Lets start with today and make a new friendship, we can all get along and in return and up making some good friends out of it. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  2. Ill bite what the heck I havent posted here in a while and your post is interesting so lets discuss it. So do you spend any time at this dz to see how busy they are and if they are or arent making the jumps they claim? Or are you just guessing they are lying. Back yourself up, what makes you claim they are lying and what do you have to support it. Besides that whats the personal reason you want to make these accusations. You dont even have the courage to name the place so why exactly are you making this post? What is your intent? (some unnamed dz lies about jump numbers dont go there) Im calling TROLL. So climb back under your bridge until you have something that you can back up to say. And or even a reason to post your wild accusations about unknown dropzones you cant even mention. 3. Florida does some things right, not many of them but I like this law. My brother has been a long time food stamp and welfare recipient, and he now has to do comunity service to pay for his food stamps and check. The parks and city stuff in his town have never looked so good. He gets all the stuff from the state because he claims he cant find a job, now basically he works for the state at a much lower rate than he would make if he actually tried to find work. 5. I can tell you that the amount of tension will effect how hard your canopy reaches line stretch, as well as your pc, a big zp pilot chute will cause a good pop on line stretch. I myself pack with really short bites on the linestows. And when my PC's are new you do get a good pop after you pitch and then a snivel. If I use a packer they usually use a lot more bite on the stows and I can feel it. But I now use a stowless bag and it opens great. I have a lot of jumps wearing video of openings, and one thing that caused hard openings was a small off heading opening where the twist was up high. This was just enough to hold the slider from catching air but allowed the canopy to open, thus not allowing the slider to function like it was designed. Think of the twist holding the grommets together. but not enough twist to slow the slider from coming down. somewhere around a 180 or a 90. The reason I use really short stows is I have over 3000 jumps on my canopy without a line twist, Ill trade a pop and a snivel for a line twist. If your canopy constantly has hard openings, then it probably needs a reline, or at least a control line replacement. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  6. My best is 48 in one day, that was 4 way training doing exits from 6000 feet from a porter. But swoop training we used to do 30 to 35 a day 3 to 4 days in a row a lot. I also did 200 in 11 days with two days of weather. Swoop training I used to pack most of them myself, or at least flake it and bag it and let someone close it. The days I did 30 the team did 35 and I packed for myself while they did 35 and got packers. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!

    Vigil fire

Today I was at 1100 feet under a tandem canopy, and a video guy that was filming the tandem before me was flying straight and level a few hundred feet below me and all of a sudden his reserve pc launches. Luckily he ended up with a side by side and managed to cut away safely and land his reserve. He was flying a 9 cell canopy larger than 120 sqft, he was flying a good pattern and not doing any radical turns, he was just about to initiate a front riser turn when it happened. Luckily it fired before he started his turn, or it would have been a lot worse. Inspection on the ground showed his loop was cut. He deployed his main around 3500 feet, and only did small turns during his flight. The unit is going to be sent to AAD for inspection. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!

    Start Skydiving

I have jumped all over the country, Start has a great facility. I'm impressed with the way they don't mind doing go arounds, and will fly loads even if there isn't enough people to fill the plane. Also they really cater to the fun jumper even though they do a lot of AFF and Tandems. Start is a great dropzone.

    4G Networks

I drove from Ohio to Miami a few times, and I have flown all over, from Dayton to Miami. The only place Ive had the 4G work is Atlanta airport. It wasnt even active in Miami. I pay an extra $15 a month for 4G, and Im a little mad because I cant find it anywhere. I have the Sprint Evo and I love it. Most of the time its faster to use the phone than the WiFi to search the web. When its lagging I turn off the WiFi and everything loads superfast just on 3g. Mostly the only time I see it slow down is when loading youtube stuff, or Sprint Tv. Hopefully they will catch up and 4G will be available more often. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!

  13. I dont have a problem with USPA, some of the competition decisions dont make sense to me sometimes, but they usually end up the way they should be in time. I dont usually vote, but thats because I dont know who Im voting for, or what they stand for. I think USPA could do a better job of letting us know more about the candidates. A few years ago Richard Schatner went to all the dz's in his region and introduced himself to people and talked about what he wanted to achieve. Thats why he got my vote. I also know Jay Stokes and he is a good man that has done a lot for the sport so he got my vote. Other than that almost every election its just a bunch of names on paper. 14. We just got a Sigma II 340 Tandem main with vectran lines. I have to say, that UPT got it right with this one. We already have a few 340's but the Sigma II canopy is what Ive always been looking for. The openings are fantastic, and the response and toggle pressure are perfect. I have had nothing but beautiful openings and landings. If I had my way our dz would have Sigma II 340's in every rig. I reccomend you try one, you wont be dissapointed. 15. Hey Lisa, as someone that "quit" for good, I can say dont sell your gear. The best thing I ever did was quitting skydiving. The time I took off, I didnt even think about skydiving. When I finally did come back, it brought a whole new enjoyment to skydiving. Since quitting I earned my Tandem and Aff rating, and really enjoy jumping again. The time I took off helped me realise exactly why I jumped, and what I liked about the sport. The best part was my first jump back after over a year off, I felt like a first time jumper again, it was soo cool. So I agree go ahead and "Quit" just dont sell your gear. The rate that gear prices have increased, once you do decide to return the cost alone might keep that from happening. You never know, a few months from now you might want to make just one jump with your boyfriend, and having a rig will make this possible. It was great meeting you back in Florida, one of the best parts about skydiving for me, was meeting all the cool people. This would never have happened if I was into Golf or something similar. 16. One thing that scares me about horeshoes, that is rarely taught is just cutting away a horeshoe isnt enough to clear it from the 3 rings. There isnt enough tension to open your riser covers. Billy Webber did a few test jumps where they intentionally caused a horeshoe, and after he cut away, he had to physically open his riser covers, and pull the risers out of the 3 rings. His reserve cleanly deployed on the video's I saw after he cleared his risers. But its definitely a malfunction you want to avoid. Generally its an easily avoidable situation. Like everyone else said, maintain your gear, and when climbing out dont rub your rig on the door. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  17. Anyone have any information on 206 jump doors. We would like to install a lexan door on our 206 and can only find ones for a 182. Fayard had an awesome one on his 206 and we would like to install the same type. If you dont know of anyone that sells/installs them, how about anyone with one, so we can contact them about theirs, or look it up and see where they got it. Thanks. 24. QuoteWhat if the DZO is absolutely convinced that at some point, somewhere, Bill Booth went on record as saying that Sigma mains should be flat-packed? I like the idea of stowing the excess brake line at the cascade with an elastic. Another DZ I jump at does that with Precision mains.Quote I wonder why the sigma 340's dont have packing tabs if they are supposed to be flat packed? I packed in DeLand, home of UPT for years and never heard that sigma's should be flat packed. I also packed for PD's customer service/test jump department for years and we never flat packed Tandem mains, we always PRO packed. The Dropzone I work at now did over 9000 tandems last year and we had 3 tandem malfunctions. And we pro packed every one of them. One malfucttion was an entanglement where you set the brakes, one tension knot (precision canopy) and one was line twists. We never do the rubber band trick, where the slack is stowed with a rubber band at the canopy, and we have 3 precision tandem mains. Line twists usually start with the line stows. I've watched hundreds of openings, and most of them happen as line stretch happens, before the main has even came out of the bag. Nice clean even line stows are a good start. not too big, and not too small. Also make sure the rig is even when you pack. Look at the risers are they even? Before, and after you lay the canopy down? Also a good guide for how much excess to leave is the risers, you want at least as much excess as the length of the risers, a little more is ok also. Another thing to check is the flap on the riser covers, with the non magnetic riser covers you should put your risers on top of the middle flap (the one marked place main risers on top of this flap). If you dont then sometimes the risers will hang up when this flap is opening, especially if they both dont open at the same time. This could cause line twists because the risers wouldn't be even when the canopy is deploying. Ive seen on new rigs people land with both flaps unopened because they packed the risers under both flaps. I know its simple but trust me, Ive caught packers not doing it the way its supposed to be done. Ive also heard of a few times, that letting the student deploy for you has caused line twists, because its harder to keep flying straight when you have a student twisting and usually tring to look for the handle. We had a girl TI that got line twists every time she had a student pull for her last year. How old are your drouges? A worn out drouge will have less extraction force this could cause your bag to flip flop as its extracting from each stow. About 10 years ago I had a series of malfunctions, and we found out the F111 pilot chute was so worn out that you could breathe through it no problem. I would pitch, and it would slowly release from line stow to line stow, causing the bag to spin back and forth. replacing the PC fixed the problem. I dont think that flat packing or pro packing is the cause of your line twist problem. my money would go with line stows. Watch some of the video's of the openings that Malfunctioned and see if the bag is spinning while it reaches line stretch. Hope this is helpfull. 25. Jimmy Trantor will be in Middletown Ohio, May 21-23 to hold a basic and advanced canopy skills camp. These skills camps will be held for the beginning canopy pilot straight off AFF, to the Swoop Master that wants to fine tune his swoop. The cost of the course is $100 a day, plus your slot. Anyone interested in attending can call StartSkydiving at 513-422-5867 or go to the StartSkydiving web site. Or click http://www.startskydiving.com/Store/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=63 If we ask nicely, maybe we can talk Jimmy into organizing and leading a sunset tracking dive each day he is there. Im excited and plan on taking the course myself. Hope to see you there. Ray Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
