"Snivel" is a pretty cool alternative to overused "toggles"
  3. My dbag seems to have a fairly square cross-sectional profile. It probably also helps that it's a 97 sq.f canopy going in the dbag. Or maybe it's because it's an EXT container. Anyways, it fits nicely into it.
  4. I've been having linetwists pretty regularly too. I noticed that during deployment the twists were already there during the first part of deployment sequence as the canopy was still in the dbag. The canopy was snivelling and opening on heading even with a twist or two. What I started doing now is to pack the dbag straight down - with the line stows towards the back of the container and not the bottom of container. This way the dbag lifts off straight out without having to rotate. This packing technique is even mentioned in the container manual. 30 jumps and not a linetwist since! Btw, my container is a wings ext w8-2
  5. I guess it would save you from a rash if you wiped out on a motorcycle on asphalt/concrete road sliding at high horizontal speed. But i dont think it will have any major effect on broken bones if you dont level off and hit the ground with medium-high vertical speed.
  6. Can you explain this statement a little? As far as I understand, the material appears to be black because it absorbs all the light wavelengths in all the visible light spectrum. White fabric reflects the incident light evenly throughout the spectrum. Well, the colour that we see is an indirect indication of what the reflectivity/absorptivity of UV, as UV is not in the visible spectrum, but is close to violet. So you say if the fabric absorbs all the visible light, it is LESS prone to UV damage? If anything I'd think it would heat up more as you're flying it under the sun, but you also get nice aircooling effect

  8. On a related note - I've been thinking of taking my rawa with pc1000 camera for a few runs down the snow covered slopes :) I'm just a little worried - is there a change the cold is going to damage my camera? What about those artificial snowmaking blowers, should i be trying to avoid those? (mind you, the helmet seals perfectly with the wide angle lens, so the snow is not going to get into the camera box)
  9. According to http://www.performancedesigns.com/docs/linetrims/LS_120-170LT.pdf Chord: 20", 31" Span
  10. ... when you jump all winter, from an airplane with no door, swoop the snow ...and decide to intentionally land past the beerline and owe a case of beer just to have a shorter walk to the fireplace
  11. It looks like it's not directly using the smoothed average values. Maybe an algorithm dependent on a blend of both real speed and avg values? Look at the green line (altitude). Notice, at 0 seconds, there's a red dot. That seems to be the time instance when vigil's speed parameter got activated. Now, look further on the same line, and notice a yellow dot around 37s. Seems like this is the point where it thinks the firing speed parameters are not satisfied. Notice that it's where the red (real) speed drops below threshold, and not the yellow line... edit: and if i take a ruler (use a side of another window), the yellow dot is not directly under where there red graph crosses the threshold.. so i think it's really an algorithm that's looking at both real and average speeds, and maybe altitude.. just thinking out loud
  12. According to the legend in the top corner of the image you provided, you're plotting Altitude(height, green), Average Speed(yellow), Real Speed (red). It's the instantaneous speed at every point, and is not averaged out, so quite a bit of noise in the data.
  13. Clicky: http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=6471 Wow.. looks like a pretty radical maneuver. Just wondering - no linetwists after that one? It's not clear from the quality of the movie if a person under the canopy is keeping up with the turning canopy.
  14. Cool, just make sure to put a "Canadian Math" disclaimer at the end of your ad when selling edit: you're from Toronto eh? where do you jump? U done for the season, or jumping all through the winter?
  15. On a related note, does anyone know a good place to get a pilotchute? Does it come with a bridle too? My friend is having some slight hesitations on his mirage rig, and i think he'd benefit from a new and bigger zp pilotchute and a longer bridle.
  16. yeah, what everyone said. It seems as all wings containers are pretty tight, so you'll have a really hard time packing the 190 into 170 dbag/tray. My Wings EXT is built for 120 main. Sabre120 was a brick in it. Now st97 fits really nicely in it, I could even say a little tight. Can probably still go one size down without any concerns. Get yourself a container built for whatever canopy you want to be putting in it (190/170).
  17. update: got my rawa helmet a week ago. ended up ordering through aerostore. In less than 3 weeks from the order date, i got it delivered to my house :) The helmet is great. super light, comfortable, and fits my pc1000 perfectly. by the way, can they make a right-sided box as well as a left-sided? would be nice to have both, and switch every month to train the neck evenly :P
  18. 0 . Sitting all day sat and sun at the dz, hoping for the rain to stop pouring, and the clouds to clear. The ceiling was below 1500ft all day today. Couldn't get to try my brand new camera helmet
  19. now that the USD is lower in value than CAD, everyone wants to come to canada. "eh?"
  20. Hey, I can easily average in the low 80s - high 70s. Did a 13.5 tracking jumps with a total time of 92 sec :) My altitrack once showed a minimum speed of 62, but i dont think i can trust that reading. I'm around ~110lbs, and 5'10". Can't wait until i get to try the wingsuit.
  21. I seem to be having a really hard time buying a new medium Rawa helmet... Initially, i was planning on getting it through gravitygear that had M/L/XL on order from rawa, but only had L and XL shipped. Sent an email more than a week ago to [email protected] and [email protected], but never heared anything since. The helmets looks like nice and I'd love to have one, but i seem to be having a hard time getting one...
  22. Sounds cool - attach the top of the rope of the system to the drogue, add lead to the camera to keep the rope under tension at terminal... then a TM gives a light nudge and it starts circling around
  23. Does anybody know if a PC1000 could fit into a 2kc FF2 helmet that is made for pc101? Comparing the cameras side by side, it looks like the 30mm lens ring is on the exact same level, but the whole pc1000 camera is 0.7-1cm taller. Does anyone have a ff2 for 101 and can take a look how much gap is there in the top between the camera and the cover?
