  1. The PDR is proven over approx. 15 years. There are many deployments that were outside of the design envelope in that time (overspeed, overweight) that we never heard about because the reserve is good enough to allow the jumper to survive mistakes. The PDR also has good flight characteristics. The Smart is new. All the testing in the world won't show what happens in the real world. There is likely nothing wrong with the Smart, but wouldn't it suck to be the one who discovers a problem (by dying), just to save a few bucks, or to be able to say you have newer technology? Just remember, people used to say the Ravens were good, until they started blowing up.

  8. One thing not mentioned, that should be checked out is how the canopy reacts to rear riser inputs with the brakes set. Some canopies will oversteer in that configuration, and you should know what you are getting into.
  9. If I'm not mistaken. Precision measures their canopies differntly than Icarus/PD, so you are dealing with a much larger size difference than you think. Try comparing the Nitron 170 with a Safire2 160 and see if you still think the same. If I am wrong with the measuring system, I'm sure someone will stand up to tell me

  11. The d-bag is attached correctly. If you know how many jumps are on the lineset, we can advise whether a reling is likely needed, but it really needs someone to physcally inspect it.
  12. We will just have to agree to disagree. To me, skydiving involves jumping from aircraft. Paragliding is ground launching using thermals. Arguing over the internet is like the special olympics.
  13. Wrong again. If you want to argue that point, first take a GLX, pack it in a rig, take it terminal, and live, then I'll give you that. Fact is, this was a paragliding accident.
  14. My vote would definately be for perris with that information. The whuffo could spend time in the bar, go for a swim i n the pool, or do a couple minutes in the tunnel. They can't do those things at Elsinore because the facilities are only at Peris.
  15. The poll results don't reflect reality. Perris, for better or worse, is a busier dropzone, with more jumpers. Like others have said, it can be intimidating at first, but it really does have everything you want.
  16. So by that, you are saying you would have had an AAD fire or bounced, because you are not altitude aware without a toy. What if the batteries died during that jump? That is device dependecy, and exactly why most experienced people recommend more jumps without an audible after AFF.
  17. 2 problems with that statement. 1:he wasn't skydiving , and 2: it wasn't a landing problem, it was a canopy collision.
  18. So you want a rigger ticket, but you aren't willing to do things properly and not rush. I fear for your customers. You will need to do 20 pack jobs with a lot of crawling around. That alone will probably take 4-5 days. Plus sewing, other secret knowledge, and testing takes time. Unless you already have the pack jobs, but then you wouldn't need the course.

  20. A skydiver is anyone who has made one jump or more. There is no reason to put a 500-jump minimum on it. I would just limit the question to people who have steel/titanium inserts due to skydiving injuries, and not from other types of injuries. And there is no way that 10 to 20% of jumpers with over 500 jumps have steel in them. You must be jumping with a bunch of reckless crazy people... I wouldn't expect a high percentage of people with only 1 jump to have broken bones from skydiving.
  21. That's actually very dangerous. More than one petite person has fallen out of the back of the harness due to that very scenario. I call BS. Can you give links to fatality reports? I know of a couple people falling out of harnesses, but due to chest straps not being routed correctly. Also, there was a suicide, plus the disabled tandem, but I don't know of a single incident involving a poor fit rig.
