Irreversible (Gaspar Noe, 2002) is one of the most emotionally brutal films ever made, bar none. The whole point that guy is going off in that underground club is because his gf, a radiant Monica Belluci, is brutally sodomized. To add another layer of irony (and brilliant casting), she is his wife in real life. Anyway, the film film's narrative is told in reverse, and not as a gimmick either. The ending, or rather the beginning, is sublime. check it out...if you dare.
