  1. One of the nicest guys I ever met was Tom Piras. I will never forget the day I opened Skydiving Magazine and read that he went in. Not only a great jumper but someone who gave a lot back, like jumping wiht this zoomie way back when. He was hit by a low time jumper and was stunned for a few and when he came to and dumped he only got line stretch. Would I make a jump without an AAD, probably. But I would take extra time to scrutinize type of jump and who I was jumping with.
  2. can you just order a longer chest strap when ordering harness/container? I know Voodoo comes with thinner chest strap and should come with extra length, no? btw, how mch longer should it be?
  3. too bad, I was hoping it would be a cool insighful inspirational account of an older person finding our sport in time to for renewal. again...too bad.
  4. Has anybody read Rita Ippoliti's "Falling Into Place"? It looks interesting and was just wondering what people thought. Am interested in any other book recos that are NOT instructional, but personal. (it could be personal experience, team experience, history, etc)
  5. QuoteLotus is compairable to a SaberII not a stiletto, Brian would be very upset if a 125jump newer jumper got his hands on a Sam, I was referring to availability of his canopies in general and how they packed. I am a long way off from a Samurai, etc. Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it.
  6. Called a major rig manufacturer about viability of Lotus in a certain size container and their response was "gee, I dunno...but I would guess it would pack FAT". Well, duh, even I could have told him that. That said, I am wondering just how "cult" Brian's canopies are? They aren't listed on Sq1, paragear's, or many other dealer websites. Also, aside from rave reviews from owners (which I totally understand and is at least part of the reason I am looking at a Lotus being my next canopy), I have not seen to many qualitative reviews. Qs.... 1) how much bigger does an airlocked canopy pack (how much bigger does a Lotus pack, than say a like sized stilleto/sabre2, and how does it fit in your rig? 2) Where did you buy your Sam/Lotus and how was the service? 3) Long-term reviews and impression of whole experience
  7. [ You didn't say when you were planning your trip - weather could be an issue at all three dz's in August (it's hot in Perris and Eloy, it's hot and humid in Deland). late september early october. Square One's store at Perris does have a large amount of demo gear, the most I've seen at any dz gear store. If a new gear decision is a primary goal for the trip . This is a big part of my trip, but NOT the only reason. I really hope to really start making a very concentrated amount of jumps centered around freeflying and canopy instruction to the next level. I haope to have 1/3 of my 100 jumps be coached. (20 freefly and 10-20 canopy) Perris and Eloy have it over Deland in that they have tunnels on site. Perris and Eloy have a bit more of a post-jumping on dz social scene too. post jumping scene is important, but if the scene is TIGHT only during the day, that's cool too. I just really really really want to learn and take it to the next level
  8. I have relatives near Skydive Arizona, Deland, and Perris, but am not sure where to go? They all have freefly/canopy schools and every bell and whistle anybody would want. That said, I hear Deland can be hard to break into, yet you are going to learn a lot. (I heard when you do break in there, it can be quite the experience) Is skydiveAZ still really hot? (temp) Also, I am sort leaning towards Perris since their demo supply and program is good and I will soon be venturing into new gear territory. This will be a serious two week visit where I hope to make between 80-100 jumps. So it is definitely a "take everything into consideration decision". thanks
  9. what can I expect to pay a packer at a DZs like perris, skydiveaz, or deland? Does it go through the dz or do I find someone on my own? any recos? thanks..
  10. Yeah, I have been thinking about the Lotus. And abbatman, you are right; I am sure I will enjoy semi-ellip canopy. Money is tight and I am not in a "demo-rich" area, ya know? I figured since I like ringin stuff out and I am smart and conservative under a grand, I thought I could bypass the semi and go straight to full elliptical. Ugh....
  11. I am curious about peoples thoughts when it comes to lightly loaded high performance canopies. I am coming up on 200 jumps and am thinking about a samurai 170, which will put me at 1.1 WL WITH gear. Don't get me wrong. I fly very conservatively, especially under 750ft and this is not a decision in preparation of being able to hook everything, far from it. I DO want to downsize though. I repeat, this is not about being a hooking machine, but rather the idea behind better performance making one safer if used with the right amount of humility and smarts. (if that makes sense) p.s. (edit) Another reason for the Samurai are the airlocks. the dropzones I have been frequenting can get a fair amount of turbulance.
  12. DUH! (the wingsuit forum) sorry......newbie brainfreeze!
  13. Does anybody know how the quest is going to land a wingsuit jump without a parachute? This has everything, science, nerves of steel and just the right amount of craziness.
  14. Dave.....er, I mean "outlawphx" could you email me at [email protected]? I have a # of questions concerning Voodoo, S2, and SMART res. Thanks in advance, Jack
