  1. well done.... thanks for making my next meeting somewhat palatable. (somewhat) B-L-U-E-S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. My first instructor had a fluke thing happen to him once and had to decide whether to ride a canopy down while holding a brake down to keep it straight or chop. He didn't hesitate to chop and when I asked him why he said "why should I risk landing a parachute that is flawed when I have a good one right on my back?" I had big time fear about using my reserve. I used to think to myself (and I know it doesn't make sense) "what if my reserve doesn't work?" UGH! Now you KNOW you can do it and that your gear works. Sheesh, who doesn't need THAT kinda comfort?!
  3. Then all you need to pay for at the DZ is a spot on the plane. No? You think you have the bug NOW? Wait till you really start to fly. One day your getting pinned, the next you are deciding the best time of year to make a trip to Perris, Eloy, Deland, Z-hills...etc. enjoy....you can always make more money
  4. *reaches into his quiver* okay, here is a great martini, espcially if you are eating apps or are about to have dinner. chill glass, shaker....blah, blah premium vodka of choice with Pernod (very very very dry, alittle goes a long way) and then add 3 blue cheese stuffed olives. it all comes together into something really great. you can thank me later
  5. I don't want to sound like a know it all, but I would go with the Icarus VX-39. "But that's me, aggressive gambler, Mr. Vegas" ^ name the movie and star HINT: you guys can have coffee after you jump the Velo
  6. just finshed Ian McEwan's "Saturday" and just started Orhan Pamuk's "My Name is Red"
  7. Quote.... what was your greatest fear? Not finding throw-out handle. You spend all your time LOOKING for stuff before you grab and/or pull, so when I had to grab something I couldn't see... My five second delay was more like a 5 tenths of a second delay. It was a little embarrassing at the time. I am not sure I cleared the step of that Cessna
  8. First Jumped: T-10 First owned: PD 210 (great flare compared to Raven 4 and Mantas I jumped while on student status)
  9. Dude, you won the skydiving lottery of life. Growing up with a parent that skydives and hanging out at the airport.....AND getting to jump as a teenager?! Be grateful you didn't grow up the son of an orthodox priest and when you told your dad you were thinking about making a tandem he became totally quiet. (this was WAY scarier than him yelling like a typical greek dad). Now it is just a "don't ask don't tell" situation. You da man! (and yes, I would have grounded you for the day, because it your age it would have seemed like a month and that would almost guarantee you wouldn't forget again)
  10. *in my best Johnny Carson* "I did not know that!" Thanks Chris..
  11. ROFL........thanks, I needed that. (long meeting)
  12. I still recommend ducking after.
  13. Finally scrolled down to the bottom of Relative Workshop's home page and saw that kickass “Ouragan Collection Rig ”. Does anybody have one? Is this a new phenomenon? What is the quality of their jumpsuits like? (they are expensive but pretty cool, I will admit that) I have to admit that I am pretty excited about the possibility of not filling out yet another starburst colorscheme, ya know?
  14. Wow, all these posts have been informative, respectful, and have shown genuine care and concern. cool. I may just stick around and learn something so I can try to grow old in this sport.
  15. Eloy and Zhills don't even compare to SDC. Kewlio! Btw, thanks again to all who have reached out through Pms.
  16. NOTHING I was suppossed to be. I reverse arched, didn't count, I did everything wrong. (I did land properly) That said, I was the only one of a really large class that jumped twice that day and my second jump went flawlessly. I remember the silence after my chute opened the first time. I knew there was something going on there, ya know? :)
  17. For a one-time experience I'd say SDC, because everyone should see it at least once. Most first-time visitors can hardly believe what they're seeing there. Bigger than Skydive AZ and or Skydive City? (been to both once) Good points about DZ commers! (duh?!) I am not timid at all and I am all about jumpin right in, I just want to be met a little bit (I'll go more than 1/2 way, no problem) Yeah, both places...THAT'S THE TICKET!
  18. I may be going to Chi town on business and will stay the weekend to check out a new DZ. From what I have read, Skydive chicago is more of a skydiving resort and Chicagoland is smaller and more personal. I look at it like this, sometimes the smaller places can be harder to break into and other times even though the bigger DZs make you feel like a number, they are better at "absorbtion". (if that makes any sense?) I really do like meeting new people and some good 4-8 way or freefly is totally cool with me. And I will definitely look forward to hangin and partying after. :) thanks..
  19. QuoteAre skyhooks now common enough that most riggers are familiar with them for repacks? Or is it a challenge to find a rigger familiar with the system? I just had a Keannu Reeves moment in that I was just about to ask the same question....whoa, dude
  20. QuoteI got a fever and the only cure is more Remtard. true, but this time, "I really want you to EXPLORE THE STUDIO SPACE"
  21. QuoteI was told you feel more fear between jump nr. 4 and 10 than before jumping. It was during these jumps specifically that my fear was at its zenith. I was always asking myself as I rode to altitude "why am I doing this"? But after I jumped I always KNEW why....then I slowly stopped asking myself. I believe there is something to be said for leaving space for both a healthy repsect for the sport and doing what you have set out to do. As your jumps progress, so do your objectives and the space needed to accomplish said objectives.
  22. Oh man, I am so jealous. Was married in a full tux in august in greece. small church, no pews, no windows...an old lady was fanning me because I was in a little town called Flop-sweatville. congrats again and be good to each other. :)
  23. can't find stuff that lists Lotus, Katanas, etc. Looking for something really current. thanks in advance...
  24. Emailed Kolla about if and or whens when it comes to Katana 135/150s........and she PMed me from Rantoul and talked about them demoing out two of each and that it should only be "a few more weeks yet" too cool for school! a guy can dream, can't he?
